Dear Sandy,
I don't know what has happened to me, I guess I have been reading the
emails you guys sent out about the Hayes Family and it just hasnt been
sinking in for me that this might be the Fannie I've (and others , but they
were paying closer attention) been searching for. Ever since I started
searching the genealogy of my husbands family about 15 years ago my
husband's grandmother has had a serious interest in finding out about HER
grandmother who was named Fannie Hayes. I have no idea where she lived
before she married but after she married James Lewis(1869-1947) she lived on
Stoney Point Road outside of Vanleer going towards Erin
about 3-5 miles from highway 49 near the Houston/Dickson/Montgomery county
lines. The Fannie Hayes Lewis that I have been searching for had three
children, then she died in 1896 and is buried there in the cemetery. Her
tombstone only has her name and the date 1896 of her death. Her three
children were Tennie born 4-11-1893, Willey born in 1891 and Roney born in
1896. Tennie was my husband's grandmother's mother. Now several years ago
before I lost hope of making a break through here and thought I was hot on
the trail of info. for Fannie, I looked up every "Hayes" person I knew
around the area and my husband's grandmother called around to whoever she
thought of connected with a local Hayes family. We came up with nothing. All
the concrete info. that I have actually found myself is listed above. By the
1900 census James Lewis had taken his three small children and was listed
living with his parents James and Nancy Lewis. I have found nothing else
really until now ( guess all the good info. was passing me by and I didn't
realize it!! The Tennie mentioned above married Walter Waynick ( hence my
interest in the Waynick Book by Paul Waynick).
The Lewis Family that Fannie married into had lived in the same location
since the early 1800's maybe even back to the 1700's. So I suspected that
Fannie was probably a girl from a family that wasn't too far away from the
Lewis homeplace. If Faye hadn't of sent that email to the list last week
I'm a little behind on my message reading and just got to read it today) I
might not have realized it ever. Marie thinks that this might the same
Fannie that we have been searching for because the birthdate is the same day
and month but one year off from what her mother had told her. I just don't
know why this didn't sink in when ya'll were all talking about the Hayes
family earlier. I guess one of those bricks from that wall must have finally
knocked me on the head!
Have a great night!
Caroline
