Faye---
I just had a good laugh. You said the information you have came from the
Hayes Family Bible on the Montgomery County website. I'm familiar with
that---it's Geneva's work. My dear, darling (Great) Aunt Bert (Bertie Lou
Hayes Wilyard) gave that information to Geneva Swain.

Aunt Bert died in 1984---she was 98 years old. She had one of the first
telephones in Clarksville and lived across the street from my
grandparents----the same grandparents that I lived with when I was a baby.
Her sister (Aunt Pearl) was my g-grandmother and she lived next door to my
grandparents--and she died in 1971 at 91 years old. These are the two
people that got me hooked on my family history at such an early age! I used
to ask them all sorts of questions. Their sister Lula Theodore (Aunt Lou)
also died in 1971 but she was a "spring chicken" at 81 when she died. After
Aunt Lou died, her daughter went to Aunt Bert and asked about the family
history. This paper that I keep referring to as being from "the greats" is
what was typed up after the conversation with Aunt Bert!

Anyway, there seems to be a difference in some of the names. You (the
website) have James Washington Polk Hayes and Jesse Jacob Dallas Hayes as
twins---but this paper says James K. Polk Hayes and George A Dallas Hayes
were the twins names. Hopefully the census records will help straighten
these names out.

I think I'm going to see if I can locate some of Aunt Bert's
children/grandchildren. I don't think any of them are still in Clarksville
but it would be interesting to see if we can locate that Bible Geneva copied
this information from! I've already asked Aunt Kate (Aunt Pearl's daughter)
about a family Bible but she said "Mama didn't have one!" I find that
difficult to believe but she lived with Uncle R.B (Robert Burt) so his widow
may have thrown the Bible out when he died. (Maybe I should visit Annie and
see if there might have been a Bible---I can literally see her house from my
deck!)

I'll keep digging on this line and maybe there will be someone with a clue
to tie these people together----and tell me what the Wheeling, West Virginia
connection is!

Thanks for your help!

Sandy Ellis
