The only thing I can think of is to put a BREAKABLE collar on her... so she
wont get caught in a fence or something...and put a bell on it so as to warn
the birds... I know this works... use a 'cat flea collar as they are
breakable if I remember correctly.... She is a hunter..and she isnt going to
change... you HAVE to put her permanently in the house... OR put a bell on
her to warn the birds....
My best ideas, anyway...

Sorry for posting this to the list but I need some advice and hope someone
has resolved a similar problem and will write me privately
with answers!

About a year ago, I spotted a young black cat at the edge of the woods. It
took a few days before I had "her" eating out of my hand (and sleeping in my
house). She's a real "mouser" and a sweetheart with the kids. We just have
one problem with her---we can't get her to stop giving in to her natural
instincts! She doesn't bother my caged birds but she sure loves to catch
the ones outside. I'm managed to take several away from her before she did
any serious harm to them---but many more, I haven't been so lucky with. I
wouldn't mind if she were more selective and caught all the house sparrows
that bother my Bluebirds---but that's wishful thinking!

My husband is threatening to take her to the animal shelter. I KNOW if she
goes near one of the Bluebirds, she's out of here! He actually likes the
cat and doesn't want to get rid of her---but he has 5 Bluebird boxes full of
eggs. He said he will try any reasonable ideas.

Now, I have to go to work---can't sit here and guard the birds! Please, if
anyone thinks of anything that might help with this problem, let me know
(privately)!

Sandy Ellis
