Cindy & Listers,
I sure hate to tell you, but most of the photos at Cracker Barrel are
originals. My husband and I have been in the Antiques & Auction business for
30+ years and we too have sold to CB. Those photos come from all over the US
and Canada, plus a few other countries thrown in for good measure.
Some times a family line dies out and there is no one left to want them, but
this will break your heart:
We purchased the contents of a small apt. once and the lady had been very
wealthy, we were instructed that anything personal left was to be burned. I
came across family photos and put them aside thinking these had been left by
accident. We were told by the bank to destroy them, I couldn't believe it !!
Seems the nephew was the only heir and all he wanted was her money. The apt
building had an insenterater (sp?) and as I dropped them down the shute, I
almost cried, these were so beautiful. They had most certainly been done by
a top notch photographer. All I could think was what I wouldn't give if they
were mine.
You wouldn't believe how many people simply don't care. I always try to talk
the owner of old photos to put them away and not to destroy them. Needless to
say, I couldn't afford to buy and store them, however, I have one that I
bought at an Auction of a family group. For some reason it appealed to me,
maybe because it came from Montgomery Co. Some one had written ...Weedman
in paint on the back of the frame. Who knows, maybe someday I can find it's
rightful owner, meanwhile, I will clean it and hang it in my home.
