Dear Donald,
I don't have much on Lettitia/Lettisha/Letticia (However you spell it!)
Taylor Gilmore. There may be someone out there researching the Taylors that
can help you more. What I have found is that she was born in 1842-died in
1920 and was raised at "Taylor's Crossroads" which I have been told was
located somewhere along Cedar Creek. Samuel F. Gilmore's sister ( trust me,
I checked it out this time!) Nancy Catherine Gilmore (1844-1938) married a
Menoah Taylor(dob 1838 in Dickson County). They married in 1864 in Dickson
County. According to "Tennessee Confederate Widows and Their
Families"written by Wiefering and Sherrill, Menoah had atleast one sibling a
brother named Tom Taylor. Pension # 8759 was granted to Nancy Gilmore Taylor
for her husband Menoah Taylor's service. I wonder if he could be Lattisha
(spelling) Taylor's brothe?. At the intersection of Upper Creek Road (Cedar
Creek Road turns into Upper Creek Rd) and Sylvia Road there is and old
"Taylor" Cemetery. I have been told that Menoah Taylor is buried there, I am
not sure if this cemetery is listed in the Dickson County Cemetery Book.
Nancy Taylor or "Aunt Nancy" as I was told she was called never had any
children. When she was elderly she moved in with her neice who was also a
widow , widow of Marcus Clayburn Gilmore,Julia Bone Gilmore ( this info. I
got from my father in law who remembers "Aunt Nancy" living there when he
was a child.). Aunt Nancy Taylor Gilmore died in 1938 and is buried in the
Ragan Cemetery on Bear Creek. I have been to this cemetery and don't think
that there were any more Taylor's buried in it but the list of people who
are buried there are listed at the Dickson County Web site. I don't know if
this helps you any but maybe there is someone else out there that is
searching the Taylors and could tell you more?
Have a great day!
Caroline
