Subject: [TNDICKSO] Howells in Dickson Co, TN (1850-1900)
Date: Tue, 6 Jun 2000 21:06:12 EDT
I am trying to help my son learn more about his Howell ancestors who lived in
the White Bluff area of Dickson Co. over a number of decades.
My son's great-grandfather was Homer Charlton Howell, Sr., born February
1886. He was married to a Susannah Brown, daughter perhaps of Sam Brown who
also lived in Dickson Co. Homer and Susannah Brown Howell's children are
said to have included Claude, Homer Jr., Effie, and Kate.
I have recently found Homer Howell listed in the 1900 census of Dickson Co.
as a son of Jarret Howell and his wife Ella. They lived at that time,
according to the census page, in the 13th Dist. Jarrett Howell was born in
Aug. 1854 in TN. In the 1870 census of Dickson Co., a Jarret Howell aged
about 19 [sic], is listed in the household of a James Howell, aged 40, born
in NC, and James' wife Catherine, aged 36, born in TN.
I am particularly looking for the parents of this James Howell. Was his
father the Benjamin Howell, aged 53, born in North Carolina, listed in the
1850 census for Dickson Co.? Does anyone know anything of the brothers and
sisters of this James Howell? Does anyone know where (NC or elsewhere) the
Howells in Dickson Co. came from?
I will happily share what Howell family information I have. I will greatly
appreciate any help anyone can give me in sorting out the Howells of Dickson
Co. and any information anyone is willing/able to share with me.
