William--
That "light" story sounds familiar! The Hayes family eventrually found it's
way to Montgomery County and owned land "south of the river". When my Dad
was a young man, he used to go "coon" hunting and "possum" hunting---don't
ask me why because he's never eaten either! One of his favorite places to
hunt was on the Hayes farm. He still claims that on several ocassions he
saw what appeared to be a lantern. He said it was carried at the same
height a man would carry it. He and his buddies, followed the light down
the hill, trying to find out who was on his grandparents property. Each
time he tried to follow this lantern, it would go down the hill at the same
level from the ground until it got near the railroad tracks. At that point,
it went straight up about 20-30 feet and disappeared. The first time they
saw it, they decided not to go hunting! But, they were curious and went
back several more times---and each time, they saw that light.
