I research the Cowan Family that was in Dickson County 1903 ish - to
present day. During my research of my line, I have learned that there were
earlier Cowan's in the area. My husband's first cousin married a Underhill
. He has a Cowan line from Dickson, TN and wonders if they connect to my
Cowan line. I have not been able to find out a lot on his line, but keep it
in mind as I research.

Two lines that I am interested in are below: [My line is at the end.]

RICHARD GRAHAM COWAN
b 11 February 1817; d 29 December 1886
m 16 December 1845 Dickson Co TN [I just found this line
Louisa Jane DONEGAN b 9 March 1831; d 6 July 1899

Cowan - Underhill Line [I thought that I had the Dickson info on this
group, but it was not on this computer.]
Henry Wade Underhill born Webb, MS was the son of Leonora Cowan Underhill
born Ripley, MS. She was the daughter of Wade Thomas Cowan born Ripley, TN
and Mattie Bell Cowan born Ripley, TN. She was the daughter of Howard and
Mattie Montgomery of Ripley , TN .

Wade Thomas and Mattie Bell Cowan later moved to Ripley, MS

I asked why the names of the towns were the same and was told that they
were probably so thinly populated, that they probably named the town in MS
themselves.

Now, my Cowan Line moved to Dickson, TN in about 1903 and had a lumber
company called Cowan Lumber Company. From this developed what I think was
an oak flooring company and Cowan Construction Company. I am interested in
any and all information that anyone on the list knows about this group of
Cowans. I know that I have family still in Dickson and am in contact with
many of them. My Grandfather, Henry Turner Cowan, left Dickson about 1936
and went east finally to Johnson City, Tennessee. I know that Aunt Daisy
married Allen Jackson Byrn. I am interested in positive and well as
negative information - I am just trying to put flesh on the bones of my
research!!!! So am interested in even the little things.

I also know that I have family in the Dickson Union Cemetery. I have not
been to Dickson since I stated genealogy, but expect this cemetery to be of
good size and easy to locate.

Also, does the name - Alama Jean Weakley mean anything to anyone on the
list. She married William Cowan that was raised as William Cowan Byrn. I
would expect her to be between 75 and 80 years old if she is still living.
Just thought since I was asking that I would ask about that also.

Thanks in advance for any infomation.
