I can help... I am right now installing data in a new web site...
called:Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness.
A new Volunteer recruit came in from Dickson county but it was too late to
add them.. (I had been at this all day --it has to let up soon, <bg>)

Anyway if you will wait 24 to 48 hours, ck this address (it should be
installed with the person Dickson person it by then) and contact them...
but, the trick is this.... Read the information and instructions on the
home page. We want this to be a sharing and fun gift to each other... not
just 'givers and getters'. So if you contact him/her you must volunteer to
do the same thing in the county YOU LIVE in.. either court records, videos
of cemeteries, pix of headstones, Library lookups(pertaining to that
county) etc.. AT LEAST ONCE. Remember this is a first com first serve
offer.

Subject: Lookup for an Andrew

>A couple of weeks back, I requested a lookup for a child born in
>Dickson County in 1809. I received no responses. I was hoping
>someone might be able to direct me how else I might go about
>finding information on his birth.

>It is not practical for me to get to Dickson County myself. What
>resources are available on-line, etc., which I could use here at
>home to find a Dickson County birth from 1809?

>Below is a copy of my original request for reference.

>I
>am looking for a child that was supposedly born in Dickson County
>in 1809, possibly on April 6. The child's first name was Arthur.
>
>I am not sure of the last name. The name he carried later on in
>life was HUMPHREYS. However, his parentage is uncertain. A
>published work in Gibson County, Indiana, on the HUMPHREYS family
>states, "The father of Sarah Ellen Umphries was left on the door
>steps of a family by the name of Woods, they named the baby
>Arthur Umphries."
>
>The earliest record I can find on Arthur, is a court order when
>he was 17 years old (1826) showing that George Humphreys of
>Gibson County, Indiana, was named as the legal guardian of

>published work I referenced.

>All through Arthur's life, he states he was born in Tennessee,
>although it is not believed that any of George's family was in TN
>(they came from VA to KY to IN). The HUMPHREYS and the WOODS
>family were close and intermarried. Also the WOODS family was
>from TN (Blount County I believe). However, we are unable to
>venture where Arthur may have fit into the WOODS family, as they
>removed to Gibson County, Indiana, about 1807 (one son did stay
>behind until 1811).

>In Arthur's Civil War discharge, he states he was born in Dickson

>married into the WOODS family.
