Stella:
First the Binkleys. Sina Paralee Binkley, my g-g-grandmother, was born
1813 in Tennessee, married Joshua Carney 3 Mar 1835 in Davidson County, and
died in 1845 in Davidson County. Although we can't prove it, my cousins
and I feel that her parents were Henry Binkley and his first wife Anna
(more on our reasons in the next paragraph. Henry was the son of Johann
Adam Binkley (or just plain Adam Binkley) and Maria Magdelena Weller. As
you're probably aware, Adam Binkley was the son of the immigrant Peter
Binkley and his first wife Ana Maria Werle.
The easiest way to explain why my cousins and I feel that Sina's parents
were Henry and Anna Binkley is to include the notes I have under Sina in my
files, viz.:
Quote:
Lois Barnes Binkley, in "The Deserted Sycamore Village of Cheatham County,"
maintains that Henry Binkley fathered nine children by Anny Binkley. She
identifies two of them as Blackstone F. and Tazwell M., but no records of
the names of the other seven is known to have been found. Mrs. Barnes
indicates that another son was born in 1810, and another between 1815 and
1820; a daughter was born after 1810; another daughter was born between
1810 and 1815; another daughter was born between 1815 and 1820; and another
daughter was born between 1820 and 1824; then there was another son born
around 1825.
It is accepted by some that the son born in 1810 was named Elijah (Eli),
and that the daughter born between 1810-1815 was Sina Paralee; rationale:
1. Their ages match the ages in the 1840 census.
2. Joshua Carney bought land from Eli Binkley on Big Marrowbone
Creek in 1842 - this was only a short distance from Sycamore Village where
the Adam Binkley family had settled.
3. It was a German custom to name the oldest son after the
mother's father - Sina's two oldest sons, twins born in 1835, were named
Henry and Elijah.
4. On the 1840 census, Eli Binkley is a neighbor to all the
Marrowbone Carneys.
The son born between 1815 and 1820 has been identified by some as Hiram
Henry Binkley who was born about 1815, married Nancy Morris 16 April 1836,
and died 4 June 1860.
It is suspected that the daughter born in 1810 was Mary Binkley who was
born 1 April 1810 and married to Moses Dean in Davidson County, TN on 27
October 1827; she named her second son Henry, probably after her father.
Sina's short life ended in 1845, probably as a result of the birth of her
sixth child and namesake, Sina Paralee Carney. Her burial place is not
known. It was the custom of the early Carneys to bury their loved ones on
the family farms. Often the graves were unmarked, or the markers were torn
down or neglected when the land was re-sold.

I'd be most interested in any comments you have on the foregoing. I'd also
be interested in how you connect to the Binkley's.
Now to the Abernathy surname. I have two in my files. I mentioned in my
original message that after Sina Paralee Binkley died Joshua Carney took as
his second wife Judith Jane Demonbreun. Joshua and Judith Jane had nine
children one of whom was Joshua Thomas Carney. Joshua married Mary Ann
Lavenia Abernathy 13 Aug 1871 in Cheatham County. I don't know anything
about Mary Ann other than she was born 6 Jan 1847 in TN and died 3 Jul 1931
in Davidson Co. The other Abernathy is a Patricia Ann Abernathy born 2 Jul
1946 who married Donald Warden Carney. Is either of these Abernathy's
familiar to you?
As to the Poole surname, all I have is a Mable Evelyn Poole who married a
George Bennett Farrar on 27 Oct 1944.
I note that you research the Hardin surname. My 4g-grandparents were
Zachariah Garton and Clara Wisdom. After Zachariah died, Clara took as her
second husband Henry Hardin. A listing of their descendants based on my
files would be:
Descendants of Henry HARDIN
-------------------------------------------
1-Henry HARDIN (-)
sp: Clara WISDOM (abt 1754-)
2-Frances HARDIN (8 Jul 1776-)
2-Mark HARDIN (14 Aug 1783-6 Mar 1805)
2-Judy HARDIN (-)
2-Minnie HARDIN (-)
2-Rosanna HARDIN (24 Sep 1798-Oct 1873)
sp: Hodge RAYBURN (-)
sp: Gabriel MAYBERRY (28 May 1795-27 Jul 1869)
3-Rosie MAYBERRY (-)
sp: PORTER (-)
3-Emma MAYBERRY (-)
sp: PRIMOND (-)
3-George MAYBERRY (-)
3-Harding MAYBERRY (-)
Are any of these names familiar?
I hope some of the foregoing is of interest and that I'll soon hear from
you.
