If you read this last year..forgive the redundancy and delete.
Last year about this time..I was in the Dickson County Library doing
research. It was one of these days that is not hurried. In my favorite
library with lots of time... I was as throughly content. After a while
a man came into the small room. I glanced up from my reading to see who
came in. He was a big man, but not obese. His pugged nose and rosey
cheeks gave him an expression of joviality. His beautiful white beard
and mustache were pristine and well groomed, but longer than is
considered stylish. I chuckled to myself as I noticed he was wearing a
flannel plaid shirt and jeans. Thinking to myself he looked like Santa
off season! I shifted in my chair and tried to concentrate on my
reading... only to find myself peeping over my book at him. He reached
in his shirt pocket and pulled out his granny style of reading glasses
and proceeded to settle into his work. I continued to try to regain my
concentration... I had to say it! I knew it wasn't him... was it?
Finally, I succumed to my impulse. In my most 'as a matter of fact tone'
I looked up over the edge of my book and said," You know, I have been a
VERY good girl!" Then I proceeded to direct my view toward the print in
my book...feeling more than a little foolish. A second or two passed but
it seemed like more. BUT, then it happened! HE said," I'll have to
check my list!" I couldn't believe my ears! Who else would say that, but
him? I slowly looked over the edge of my reading and smiled by biggest
grin..and he gave me a slow wink. I know I saw an unusually bright
twinkle in his eye. We both resumed our work.. and I was satisfied. I
knew who I was sitting by and when he checked his list he would see I
was telling the truth... almost.
