Phoebe Lawson Young, age 95 of LaFollette
Betty M. Cuff, age 75 of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Nov. 4 in Mary
Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. She was born Jan. 8, 1930 in
Middlesboro, KY, the daughter of the late Tilman and Ollie Moyers. She married at age 16
to the love of her life, Luther A. Billingsley, who preceded her in death. She
was also preceded in death by her second husband, Victor C. Cuff on Oct. 20
of this year. She attended Beechlawn Baptist Church and was a member of the
Ladies of the Shrine, Khedive Temple, Norfolk, VA. In addition to her parents,
she is also preceded in death by her brothers, Warren and Hollis Moyers.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ronnie (Linda) Billingsley of
Stafford, VA; grandson, Richard (Dame) Billingsley of Chesterfield, VA; sisters,
Mable Cupp of Richmond, VA, Bennie McChesney of Virginia Beach, VA, Shirley
Kelsch of Louisville, KY, Gail Smith, Henderson, KY; brothers, Lewis Moyers of
Kingsport, Richard Moyers of Harrogate; great granddaughter, Katie Rose
Billingsley of Chesterfield, VA. Funeral services will be Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the
Reece Valley Chapel. Interment will be in the Kibert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Office
for Development, 2900 Rock y Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607-1460. Reece Funeral
Home and Valley Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Theresa Venice Jeffers, age 35 of Lake City passed away Nov. 2 at the UT
Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born June 25, 1970 in Anderson County. She
was a member of the Gospel Baptist Church in South Clinton. She loved bowling,
crafts, quilting with her mother, before her mother passed away and spending
time with her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lou
Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Richard Jeffers of Lake City; son, Ricky
Jeffers of Lake City; daughter, Melodie Jeffers of Lake City; father, James R.
Phillips of Clinton; brothers, Wade and Carolyn Phillips of Clinton, Joe
Phillips of Clinton, Gary and Jenny Phillips of Clinton, Darrell and Martha Philips
of Clinton and David and Regina Phillips of Lake City. Funeral services were
Nov. 4 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lindsay
officiating. Interment was in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Marjorie Tidwell Johnson, age 79, of Duff passed away Nov. 2 at UT Medical
Center of Knoxville. She was a member of Jellico United Methodist Church. She
began teaching in the Campbell County School system when she was 17 years old
and retired after 44 years. A graduate of UT and Charter Member of CC American
Federation of Teachers. She was also a 50 years member of the Order of Eastern
Star, past Worthy Matron and Past President of CCRTA. A devoted member of the
Democratic Party and Jellico Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Bill Johnson; infant son, Billy Lee Johnson; parents, James and
Mae Perkins Tidwell; sister, Pearl Tidwell; brother, James Tidwell, Jr.;
brother and sister-in-law, Ancil and Kathryn Marlow; father and mother in law,
Bernard and Mossie Miller; brother in law, Warren Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Johnson of Duff; son and
daughter-in-law, Jim and Angela Johnson of Jellico; beloved grandchildren and the lights of
her life, Katie and Brent Johnson of Jellico; sister and brother-in-law,
Dorothy Powers and husband Dr. Paul Powers of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Wilma
Tidwell and Bess Johnson both of Jellico; aunt, Jeanette Petrey of Jellico;
mother-in-law, Ruby Miller, LaFollette; nephews, Ray Tidwell and wife Cheryl of
Jellico, Mark Tidwell and wife Yvonne of Jellico, Dr. Tim Powers and wife Billie of
Clinton, Leonard Marlow of Greenville, SC, Kenny Johnson of Wise, W VA;
nieces, Susan Brown and husband Dale of Williamsburg, KY, Sandra Davenport of
Jellico, Marsha Marlow of White Oak; great nieces and nephews, Leslie Tipton and
husband Kevin of Knoxville, Erica Elliott and husband Jason of Clinton, Travis
Tidwell of Jellico, Matthew Norton of Williamsburg, KY, Heather Norton of
Williamsburg, KY, Rebekah Tidwell of Jellico, John Paul Powers of Clinton, Grace
Powers of Clinton, John Davenport of Jellico, Christian Cox of Williamsburg, KY
Mike Johnson of Jellico; a host of other family and friends; aunt, Elsie
Perkins of Powell; special friend, Jeanette Wilson. Funeral services and Eastern
star services were held Nov. 4 at the Jellico United Methodist Church with the
Rev. Mahan Archer and Rev. Delmus Bruce officiating. Interment was in the
Jellico Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jellico United
Methodist Church. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Nadine Peters Paul, age 71 of LaFollette, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 3.
She was a member of the Glade Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by her daughter, Darlene Paul Aaron; granddaughter, Destiny Pish; great
granddaughter, Victoria Hutson; parents, Richard and Maggie Peters; brother,
Charles E. (Gene) Peters; sisters, Ruth Sampson, Jenny Clark, and Dorothy Peters.
She is survived by her husband, William Harrison Paul of LaFollette;
daughters, Michelle Paul Turner and husband, Dennis, and Margarette Paul all of
LaFollette; sons, William Richard (Dick) Paul, James Edgar (Jim) Paul, both of
LaFollette and Robbie Lynn Paul and wife, Abby of Toledo, OH; 10 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; brother, Robert C. (Bill) Peters of LaFollette; several
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Nov. 5 at
Walters Chapel with Rev. Harry James and Rev. Don Reynolds officiating.
Interment was in the Well Springs Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Dora Pelfrey, age 81 of Hazard, KY, formerly of LaFollette, passed away Nov.
7 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, KY. She was of the Apostolic and
Church of God Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence
Pelfrey in September 1993. She is survived by her daughters, Betty JoAnn Kuhlman of
Lawrenceburg, IN, Anna Louise Cornett of Waynesville, OH; son, Clarence
Michael Pelfrey of Hazard, KY; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several
other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Nov. 9 at Walters Chapel.
Interment was in the Shelby Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Phoebe Lawson Young, age 95 of LaFollette went away on Nov. 1 to be with her
Lord and family. She was a member of Big Creek Gap Church. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Merlie Young. She is survived by her daughters and sons
in law: Louise and Hobart Lawson of LaFollette, Betty and Jay Brewer of
Speedwell, Barbara and Johnny Lunsford of Newton, NC; son and daughter in law,
Elmer and Sara Young of Newton, NC; sister, Martha Bruce of LaFollette; several
grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; special
nephew, Ray Lawson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Nov. 3 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Al Miller
and Rev. Hobert McCreary officiating. Interment was in Campbell Memorial
Gardens. Martin Wilson Funeral was in charge of the arrangements.
