Earl Foust Of Island Ford Dies At Home
A longtime member of Disabled American Veterans,Earl Foust,71, of the Island Ford community,Lake City Rt.1,
died last Thursday morning at his home.Foust, a native of the area where he lived,served with the U.S. Navy
during World War II. He enjoyed hunting,fishing and gardening.Foust was a miner before and immediately after
war and retired from the State Department of Transportation.he was a member of the West Side Baptist Church.
Foust is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Nance Foust, three brothers, Theodore and Edgar Foust both of Lake City,
Rt.1, and Verna Lee Foust of Heiskell, and five sisters, Mrs.Beulah Farmer of Jacksboro,Rt.1, Mrs. Willie Carden,
Mrs. Gladys Cox,both of Lake City, Mrs. Helen Wilson of Toledo,Ohio, and Mrs. Betty Chittum of Spring City.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Cox Funeral Home in Lake City with the Revs. Warner Hawkins and
B.Ray Phillips officiating.Burial was in Island Ford Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson,Oldest Member Of Church, Dies
The oldest living member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church, Mrs. Maggie Theresa Wilson, 95, of Clinton
Rt.2,died Monday at her home. Mrs. Wilson had been active in her church for many years.She was preceded
in death by her husband, Mike Wilson,a deacon of the church,who died in 1975,and a daughter, Irene Wilson,
who died in 1958.She is survived by three sons, Clarence O. Wilson of Port Charlotte,Fla.,John L. Wilson of
Clinton Rt.2, with whom she lived,and Dewey C. Wilson of Memphis, three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Ollie) Brown
of Clinton, Mrs. Paul ( Kathleen) Christopher of Kingston, and Mrs. Elbert ( Dorothy) Hatmaker of Lake City,
22 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.Funeral services are to be held at 2p.m. Thursday (today) at
the Blowing Springs Baptist Church with the Rev.Jimmie Davidson officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miner's Widow Dies On Sunday
Mrs. Gencie Harmon Goodman, 77, the widow of a Windrock coal miner, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in
Oak Ridge Hospital after an 11-year illness.The home is on Dutch Valley Rd.at Oliver Springs Rt.2.
She was the widow of William Goodman who died in 1960.Her house was near her only son,
Grover Goodman,also a retired miner. Mrs. Goodman was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church
on Dutch Valley Rd.She was born in the Campbell County area of Lake City and moved to Oliver Springs
when she married.Services were at 2p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home at Oliver Springs
and burial was in Butler Cemetery.The Rev.Clyde Kidwell and the Rev.Hayes Bass officiated.
In addition to the son,Mrs. Goodman leaves four daughters, Mrs. George Duncan of Oliver Springs,
Mrs. George Whitton of Knoxville,Mrs. Arlene E. Ashcraft and Mrs. LeRoy Brandt,both if Madison,Ohio.,
two brothers, Will Harmon of West Virginia and Hal Harmon of Lake City, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Aslinger Dies, Mining Vet Was 92
Death has taken the Rev. Isaac Aslinger at the golden age of 92.
The old-fashioned Baptist preacher died early Monday morning at Lake City Hospital.
His home was in the Cumberland Mountains on State Highway 116 at Briceville Rt.1 in North Anderson County.
Aslinger, who has been married five times,leaves seven children, 23 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
In October of 1969,Aslinger was featured in the Clinton Courier-News for being in good health and active at 91.
Aslinger was born at New River in this county and mined coal at Southern Collieries Inc. at Beech Grove.
Services were at 2p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Branch Baptist Church with the Rev.Guy Lively and the
Rev.O.S. Dugger officiating.Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery west of Lake City.
Aslinger leaves three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Gibson and Mrs.Clara Phillips, both of Briceville, Mrs. Violet Ridenour
of Michigan, five sons, Charles and Abra Aslinger, both of Lake City,Clay Aslinger of Briceville, Alonzy Aslinger
of Clinton, and Lester Ward of Wartburg,and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Sweet of Lake City.
