Odis Allen, age 95, of LaFollette passed away Oct. 27 at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Odessa Mae
Brown Allen. He is survived by his son and caregiver, Jerry Allen, LaFollette;
daughter, Ortygia Mae Carnette, Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Sharon Odessa
Carnette, Stafford, VA, Michael Eugene Carnette, Chicago, Illinois; a host of
loving nieces and nephews Funeral services were Oct. 30 in the Cross Chapel
with Rev. Larry Brinson officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

A. Joree Caldwell, age 73, of Caryville passed away peacefully October 31.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fain and Myrtle Bowman Romines;
brothers, Wayne and Homer Romines. She is survived by her husband, Hugh D.
Caldwell, Caryville; daughter, Rhonda J. Engberg and son-in-law Douglas of Medway,
OH; grandchildren, Karen Tobe, Sharon Wright, Christina Evetkovch and Robert
RectorJr., all of the Dayton, OH area; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Ryan, Josh,
Jase, Robbie and Arick In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's
Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938.
Memorial Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Cross Chapel.

Susan Collins, age 86, of LaFollette, passed away on the evening of Oct. 24
in Fairborne, Ohio. She was a member of Jacksboro Church of Christ. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Ershell Collins, Sr.; son, Ershell Collins,
Jr.; brothers, Silas Hicks, Paul Hicks and Edwin Hicks, Jr.; sister, Ginger
Bunch.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Kim and Ralph Gilby, Stafford, Va.,
Scott and Reene Collins, Caryville; great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Stephen and
Emily Gilby, Jason, Derek and Kathryn Collins; brother, Carl Hicks, Jacksboro;
sisters, Jennie McGhee, New Carlisle, Oh, Judith Ann Swanton. Funeral services
were Oct. 28 at the Cross Chapel. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elmer Fraley, age 90 of Jacksboro passed away Oct. 27 at the St. Mary's
Medical Center of Campbell County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letha
Shown Fraley; children, Billy Joe and Barbara Fraley; granddaughter, Christy
Fraley; parents, Henry and Elizabeth Vinsant Fraley; brother, Charles Fraley;
sisters, Maggie Keys and Lula Shears. He is survived by his sons and
daughter-in-laws, Jim and Cliva Fraley, Ray and Pat Fraley and Bob and Brenda Fraley all of
Jacksboro; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry McCollough of Greenup,
Ill; brothers, John and Caleb Fraley; sister, Edna Isley of Jacksboro; 10
grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Oct. 29 in Martin Wilson Chapel with grandson Kelvin
McCollough, Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson, Rev. Virgil Farmer and Rev. John Hunley
officiating. Interment was in the Indian Creek Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home

April "Apie- D" Danielle Jones age 8 of Jacksboro went home to be with the
Lord on Oct. 27. She attended East Jacksboro Baptist Church. She was a loving
daughter, granddaughter, big sister and niece who enjoyed playing basketball,
riding her bicycle, collecting Bratz dolls and loved being with her mother. She
also enjoyed shopping with her grandmother. She is survived by her mother and
father, Ronda and Stan Gagne of Jacksboro; brother, Daniel Miehlke of
Jacksboro; grandparents, Arlis and Shirley Jackson of Jacksboro, Floyd Jones of
Williamsburg, KY; uncles and aunts, Anthony and Christy Jones of Williamsburg KY,
and Michael and Janie Smith of Jacksboro; cousins, Buddies and China Leach of
LaFollette, Bethany and Ashley Baird of Jacksboro; great aunt, Pearl Miles of
Jacksboro; a host of special girl friends and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Nov. 1 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Ault
officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral

Earl D. "Cotton" Johnson, age 92, of Lake City passed away Oct. 30 at the
Tri-County Extended Care Facility in Fairfield, OH. He was born October 19, 1913
in Anderson County to the late Hugh and Bertha Pickle Johnson. He was a member
of the Lake City Christian Fellowship. He was a retired Coal Miner and member
of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Elizabeth
Housley Johnson; daughter-in-law, Senie Johnson and niece, Betty Jo Johnson.
He is survived by his son, Roy D. Johnson of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren,
Rick Johnson, Leroy Johnson, Scott Johnson, Patricia Rudder, all of Cincinnati,
OH; Lois Ann Barker of Fla. Funeral services were Nov. 2 at the Lake City
Christian Fellowship with Pastor Justin Phillips officiating. Interment was in
the Oak Grove Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Robert P. Lester, age 81 of Corbin, KY passed away Oct. 30 at his home. He
was a retired Rural Postal Carrier in the Newcomb area. He was a World War II
Navy Veteran and an active member of the Newcomb Baptist Church where he was
ordained as a deacon in 1969. his present membership was at the Fist Baptist
Church, Corbin, KY. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan and his wife of
57 years, Jean Duncan Lester. He is survived by his sister, Delores Lay, Pell
City, Ala; brother, Arnold Lewis, Grand Prarie, TX; sister-in-laws, Barbara
Davidson, Pickerington, OH, Betty Walker Mason, OH; nephews, Tom Davidson,
Grandville, OH, David Davidson, Pickerington, OH, Ron Lay, Orlando, Fla, Roger
Lay, Honolulu, Lindsay Lay, Gardendale, Al, Dennis Lay, Tuscumbia, Al, Rev. Rick
Duncan, Cleveland, OH; nieces, Carol Braden, Dalton, GA, Shelby Collins,
Jenkins, KY, Lois Tyndell, Chattanooga, Cathy Newberry, Crawfordville, Fla, Jean
Smith, Grand Prairie, TX. Funeral services were Nov. 1 at the Llewellyn Funeral
Home with the Rev. Don Davidson and Rev. Tom Allen officiating. Interment was

Stannie Morton, age 81 of LaFollette, formerly of Knott County, passed away
Oct. 21 at his home. He was born in Sassafras, KY on March 26, 1924 to Andrew
Morton and Ida Hale Morton. He is survived by his wife, Anna Morton; daughter,
Tammy Morton of Clinton; brothers, Bill Morton of Redfox, KY and Dan Cornett
of Whitesburg, KY; sister, Jolene Pridemore of Redfox, KY; grandchildren, James
Dean Silcox, Miranda Jo Cain and Larry Carson Powers. Funeral services were
Oct. 24 at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with Glenn Noe officiating.
Interment was in the Carr Fork Memorial Cemetery at Litt Carr, KY. Hindman Funeral
Services were in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Lois Murdock, age 71, of Jacksboro passed away Oct. 28. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Gussie Murdock; parents, Arthur and Inze Dilbeck,
She is survived by her sisters, Rosetta Young and Helen Smith; brother, Joe
Dilbeck. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Davis, LaFollette, Audrey Ryan,
Livingston, Va.,Valerie Gibson, Clinton, Sandy Blessingame, Detroit, Michigan;
sons, Carl Gibson, LaFollette,Rocky Gibson, Springhill, Fla; 17 grandchildren
and 26 great grandchildren; brothers, John Dilbeck, Tupelo, Miss., Art Dilbeck,
Kansas City, MO, Jesse Dilbeck, Detroit, Mich.; sisters, Edith LaMond and
Stella Heaw, both of Lake Wells, Fla.,Lorene Carter, Dothan, ALA, Dorothy Dilbeck,
Oregon. Funeral services were Oct. 31 at the Cross Chapel with the Rev. Bobby
Ray Wilson officiating. Interment was in the Bakers Forge Cemetery. Cross

Stanley Lee Petree, age 52 of Richmond, VA, passed away Oct. 26. He was a
regional academic dean for Strayer University. He was preceded in death by his
father, Charles E. Petree. He is survived by his wife, Denise (Dee) Petree of
Richmond, VA; mother, Ruby V. Petree of LaFollette. Graveside services and
interment were Nov. 1 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Cole officiating. The
family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be sent to the Richmond

Itress Ruth Marie Hunter Phillips, age 76 of Lake City passed away Oct. 30 at
the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born January 11, 1929 in
Petros to the late Herbert and Pauline Dorothy Martin Hunter. She was a member
of the Clinch River Baptist Church. She loved gardening, flowers, reading,
cooking and especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents and husband, Alonzo "Lonnie" Phillips. She is survived by her sons, Herbert
W. Phillips of Georgia, Lonnie Phillips, Jr. of Lake City, Robert S. Phillips
of Knoxville, David W. Phillips of OH;daughters, Oma and Jerry Taylor of OH;
Dorothy M. Phillips of Lake City, Shirley and David Hatmaker of OH, Mary and
Dennis Leinart of Briceville, Karen E. Taylor of Lake City, Barbie and Mark
Williams of Lake City, Shara and Kevin Dunbar of OH; brother, J.R. Hunter of
Petros; sister, Della Hunter of Petros; 40 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren
and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov 2 at the Clinch
River Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Interment was private.

Jerry L. Sharp, age 53 of the Fincastle Community of LaFollette, passed away
Oct. 25, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. He was a member of the
Glade Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis F.
Sharp and by brother, Donnie Wayne Sharp. He is survived by his children,
Wesley Sharp and Katelin Sharp both of Dandridge, TN; mother, Joie Sharp of
LaFollette; sisters, Janet, Glenda and Julie; very special friend, Connie Young;
several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Oct.
28 at Walters Chapel with Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Interment was
private.

Nona V. Sloan, age 65 of Jellico passed away Oct. 13 at St. Mary's Medical
Center in Knoxville. She was the daughter of the late Callie and Robert Andrew
(Bus) Surber. She is survived by her daughters, Starla Sloan of Jellico, Tori
Etter of Williamsburg, KY; son, Robert Trabish of Corbin, KY; grandchildren,
Kenny and Robert Trabish. Memorial services were held Oct. 19 at the Church of
God in Jesus Name with the Rev. Willie Perkins and Rev. Terry Cureton
officiating.

Alice Elizabeth Lee Thompson, age 67 of Jellico passed away Oct. 28 at the
Jellico Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 31, 1938 at Jellico the daughter
of the late Frank Edward Lee and Eleanor Caldonia Beamon Lee. She was a member
of the Jellico Black Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband, Arthur Lee Thomas; son, Tommy Edward Bynum, Jr.; brothers,
Robert E. Lee, George Frank Lee, Terry Clark Lee, Raymond Lee, Melvin Lee and
infant brother, Donny Lee. She is survived by her daughter, Vera Bynum of Jellico;
granddaughters, Stephanie Alice Bynum of Killeen, TX, Chelyan Elaine Bynum
(Tiny) of Jellico; brothers, Charles E. Lee and wife, Patricia, Morris Alley Lee
and wife, Jeanette , all of Indianapolis, IN, Floyd Eugene Lee, Sr. of
Jellico; sister, Victoria Paris and husband, Glenn of Chattanooga; very special
childhood friend, Carolyn Brown of Cherokee, NC who called each other "little black
headed devils"; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Nov. 2 at the Jellico Community Black Baptist Church
with the Rev. Gerald Littlejohn officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood
Cemetery.

Virgil E. Wilson age 77 of LaFollette, of the Grantsboro Community, passed
away early on the morning of Oct. 30 at the St Mary's Hospice of Knoxville. He
was a retired farmer. He loved farming and his family very much. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Taylor Ribe and Minerva Allen Wilson; sisters,
Lillian Wilson Miller and Verlie Wilson Bolinger; brother, Ernest Wilson and wife,
Elle Mae Farris Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Anna Gillette Wilson of
Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Virgil L. and Linda Wilson; daughter and
son-in-law, Sue and Mike Felker of LaFollette; daughter, Helen Griffin of
Knoxville; sisters, Florence Bolinger of Atlanta, Ga. and Goldie Heatherly of
Caryville; grandchildren, Sherry Mattox, Russell Strange, Misty Johnson, Tonya and
Amber Wilson, James and Robert Felker, Mary Anne Green and April Cummings; 22
great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services
were Nov. 1 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with Pastor Don Proffit and Pastor
JR. McMahan officiating. Interment was in the Wilson Shepherd Cemetery. Martin
Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin York, age 86, of LaFollette, passed away Oct. 18 at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. He was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church
of LaFollette and a World War II Veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in
death by his parents, James and Mary Cross York; six sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Myers York; twin sister, Minnie Blankenship
of Elk Valley; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Oct. 20
at the Cross Funeral Home Chapel with the eulogy delivered by Adrian Baird.
Rev. Boyd Bingham and Rev. Mark Partin officiated. Interment was in the Valley
View Cemetery. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
