Ruth Gilmore, 78, of Harriman, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Briarcliff
Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. Born July 1, 1927, in Newport, she was the
daughter of Perry Francis and Pearl Liles Francis. She had lived in Roane County
since early childhood. She was a faithful member of Elverton Baptist Church near
Harriman. Mrs. Gilmore retired from nursing at Johnson Health Care Center in
Harriman after 20 years of service. Her greatest interest in life included her
children, grandchildren and attending worship service. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Gilmore, and three sisters
and two brothers, Maxine Russell, Georgia Mae Southerland, Gladys Renner,
John M. Francis and Bud Francis. Mrs. Gilmore is survived by her son, Rick
Gilmore and wife, Vickie, of Clinton; her daughter, Sandra Vann and husband,
Stanley, of Harriman; her grandchildren, Casey Gilmore of Clinton, Michael Vann and
wife, Julie, of Knoxville, and Brent Vann of Harriman; her step-grandson, Jason
McCullum of Clinton; her great-grandson, Ethan Vann of Knoxville; special
nieces, Louise Price of Harriman, Betty Waddell of Knoxville, Ruth Ann May of
Lebanon; and by special friends, Maude Lane and Betty Moore, both of Harriman.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Elverton Baptist Church
with the Rev. Roger Buck and the Rev. Clinton Pickard officiating. A graveside
service and burial will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Elverton Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest English Kennedy, 91, of Lenoir City and formerly of West Knoxville,
died peacefully Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in
Knoxville. Mr. Kennedy was a member of First Farragut United Methodist Church
and was a retired supervisor with Union Carbide Nuclear Division with over 32
years of service. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Leonard
Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Karen
Kennedy of Charlotte, N.C., and James D. and Linda Kennedy of Lenoir City;
his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and David Burns of Jacksonville, Fla.; his
grandchildren, Brian Kennedy, Amy Erskine and husband, Paul, Molly Troutman and
husband, Mark, Jennifer Ilagan and husband, Vic, David Kennedy and wife,
Sandra, Harlan Freer and wife, Meghan, and Greg Freer and wife, Debbi; and twelve
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel Pendergrass of
Bristol, Va.; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and
nephews. The funeral was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Rose Mortuary Mann
Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Bernice Kirkland and the Rev. Richard Edwards
officiating. A private burial was held at Highland Memorial Cemetery. David
Kennedy, Greg Freer, Harlan Freer, Mark Troutman, Paul Erskine and Vic Ilagan
served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included C.C. Hopkins, Al Fischer,
Harwell Smith, Paul Evans, Ed Cox, Joe Little and John Marius. Rose Mortuary Mann
Heritage Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Roy L. Roach, 62, of Clinton, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at his residence.
He was a longtime member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church and later joined
Hillvale Baptist Church. A longtime police officer, Mr. Roach retired in 1998
from the Clinton Police Department with the rank of captain. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Christopher and Dona Poore Roach; and three brothers,
his twin Arthur Roach, and J.C. Roach and Vaughn Roach. Mr. Roach is survived by
his daughters, Rhonda Stair and husband, Walter, and Renea Pettet and
husband, Ed, all of Clinton, and Beth Pierce Roach of Jacksboro; his son, Rick Roach
and Gina of Knoxville; and a special care giver, Jenny Roach of Clinton. He is
also survived by his grandchildren, Megan Pettet, Philip Pettet, and Adam
Stair, all of Clinton, Miranda McDaniel and Molly Jo McDaniel, both of Jacksboro,
and Cassie Roach of Knoxville; his brother, W.L. Roach and wife, Linda, of
California; his sisters, Alene Norman of Union County and Helen Hensley of
Cleveland; and by several nieces, nephews and special friends at the Clinton Police
Department. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, in the
chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Marty
Stooksbury officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton.
Family and special friends at the Clinton Police Department including Clifton
Melton, Wally Carmichael, Mike Warwick and Albert Turner will serve as active
pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at
the funeral home. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of
arrangements.

Clifton A. Yarber Jr., 24, of the Boswell Chapel community in Harriman, died
Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, in Oakdale. Mr. Yarber was a member of Swan Pond
United Methodist Church, the Roane County Elks Lodge, where he was Past Lecturing
Knight, and a member of Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department Explorers. While in
high school, he played center for the Oakdale High School football team. He was
preceded in death by his grandparents, Dewey and Edith Solomon, Eldon and
Lula Frederick; and by two aunts and an uncle, Betty Rogers and Diane Yarber and
Iven Frederick. Mr. Yarber is survived by his parents, Clifton and Evelyn
Yarber of the Boswell Chapel community; his brothers, Dewey Yarber of the Boswell
Chapel community, and David Mullins and wife, Wendy, of Wartburg; his sister,
Daisy Mullins of Wartburg; his nieces, Kayla Greene of Wartburg and Amber Buck
of Sunbright; his nephews, Richard Greene II of Wartburg and James Buck of
Sunbright; a special friend, Christie; and many other special friends, uncles,
aunts and cousins. The funeral was held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, in the
chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman with the Rev. Robert Laymance
officiating. The burial was at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the Coal Hill Cemetery. The
family received friends Sunday at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.

John Butts, 64, of Devonia, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at his home. Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of the arrangements, which were
incomplete at press time.

Frank George Robinette, 87, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at the
James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center in Johnson City.
Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements, which were incomplete at
press time.
