COTTRELL, RUBY LEE - age 90, of Oak Ridge passed away Tuesday August 2, 2005
at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. The daughter of the late Robert
and Mattie Rigsby Thompson Mrs. Cottrell was born February 4, 1915 in
Jonesville, VA. A member of First United Methodist Church she moved to Oak Ridge in
1945. Mrs. Cottrell worked as a substitute teacher with the Oak Ridge Schools
and also as a library assistant at the Oak Ridge Public Library. Mrs. Cottrell
also enjoyed attending church circles at her church. Preceded in death by her
husband Andrew Cottrell, two sisters Eva Greene and Glessie Thompson, and a
brother Palmer Thompson. Survivors include two sons and daughters- in-law David
Cottrell and his wife Katie of Oak Ridge and Dan Cottrell and his wife Paula of
Oak Ridge, one sister Paris Brown and her husband of Shawanee, TN, three
grandchildren David Cottrell and his wife Kristen Moeller of Littleton, CO,
Brandon Cottrell and his wife Amy of Little Rock, AK, and Ryan Cottrell of
Cincinnati, OH, two great grand daughters Madi and Caroline Cottrell of Little Rock,
AK; brother, Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
held Friday August 5, 2005 8:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral
Home with Rev Bill Mooney officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday
August 6, 2005 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive
friends Friday August 5, 2005 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers the family has requested donations be made to the First United Methodist
Church 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Online messages to the

ELKINS, HARVEY LESTER - age 67 of Clinton, went to be with the Lord August 2,
2005. Lester was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he faithfully served
many years as a deacon and was in charge of the kitchen staff. He was retired
from the X-10 plant of ORNL. He was a dairy farmer for many years and loved
working in his garden. Lester was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Preceded in death by: parents, Michael and Ruby Elkins; sister, Audrey Pike;
sister-in-law, Katherine Elkins; brother-in-law, Hobart Humphrey; mother-in-law,
Margaret Walker. Survived by: wife, Barbara Elkins; son, Harvey Elkins and
fiancée Natalee Beeler of Powell; daughters, Dede Elkins of Clinton, Leslie and
Billy Campbell of Marietta, Georgia, and Heidi and Brian McIntosh of Knoxville;
eight grandchildren, Alyssa and Tanner Harness and Walker Elkins of Clinton,
Cameron and Parker Campbell of Marietta, Georgia, Gracie, Anna and Jack
McIntosh of Knoxville. Eleven brothers and sisters, Jim and Marie Elkins, Lowell and
Joyce Elkins, Melvin and Carol Elkins, Steve and Barbara Elkins, Joe and
Vickie Elkins, Loreene Humphrey, Betty Bell, Jewell and Don Shropshire, Jeannie
Howard, Barbara and Dewey Bailey, Gail and Steve Clark. Father-in Law, Odus
Walker; Brothers and Sisters-in- laws, Jackie and Norma Walker, Ethel and Roger
Davis, Billy and Kay Walker, Dewey and Becky Walker, Ray and Carolyn Oxendine,
Hubert Webber, and Mary and Shannon Paskell. A host of nieces and nephews. The
family will receive friends Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton from
5:00-8:00 PM followed by the funeral service with Rev. J.C. Newman, Dr. Robert
Burns and Rev. Daryl Taylor officiating. Friends and family will meet Friday
at Norris Memorial Gardens for an 11 AM graveside service. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
MONROE, SHARON "SUSAN" - born August 18, 1961 passed away Tuesday August 2,
2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. A proud member of Riverside
Baptist Church, Susan was preceded in death by father Calvin Johnston,
Grandparents Fred & Nell Walt, Henry & Martha Johnston. Survivors: husband, Johnny Monroe
of Harriman; mother, Betty W. Johnston of Harriman; mother in law, Irene
Monroe of Westel; brothers & spouses, Charles & Judy Johnston of Alcoa, Jimmy &
Renee Johnston of Maryville; sister & spouse, Denise & John Cloyd of Harriman;
several nieces and a nephew. Funeral 8 PM Thursday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel
in Harriman with Rev Mason Goodman officiating. Interment 11 AM Friday at
Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday
at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman. The family suggest memorial donations may be

PETTY, ALLENE HUDGINS - 80 of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, August 02, 2005 at
Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was born May 15, 1925 in Decatur, GA, the
daughter of Wilbur and Elsie J. Hudgins. She attended Oglethorpe University and
eventually transferred to and graduated from LaGrange College. Mrs. Petty was a
member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking part in various
church activities and especially loved working with missions. She was also a
member of the Trinity United Women's Book Group, the United Methodist Women and
Church Women United. Mrs. Petty played the organ at her church for many years.
She also worked as a substitute teacher at Woodland Elementary School and
taught piano privately to intermediate and advanced piano students. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by: husband, John Littleton Petty Jr.
and daughter, Sara Ellen Lee-Collins and a sister, Sara Lucille Hudgins. She
is survived by: son, Walter Petty and wife Cheryl of Kingston; sister, Mildred
Brannon and husband Robert of Jonesborough, GA; 7 grandchildren, James Lee,
Jessica Southern, Cody Collins, Tommie Collins, Tracey Collins, Gregory Collins
and Sydney Collins, all of Oak Ridge and 1 Great Grandchild, Bailey Lee of
Homa, LA. Funeral services are Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 8:00pm at Trinity
United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Edmunds officiating and Rev. Aldana Allen
assisting. Graveside services are Friday at 9:30am at Woodhaven Memorial
Gardens in Claxton. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of
contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, 320 Robertsville Road, Oak
Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday
from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. An
