Sandra's post makes me want to relate what I had told my husband several
hours earlier, after learning that Bud had passed away. Bud and I had
corresponded many times, beginning many years ago, and were related through
the Leinart and Evans families. And, like Sandra, I would receive telephone
calls from him at the wee hours of PST while he was calling from TN. Some
years ago, I was in Western TN with my husband on business while my
husband's parents were staying with our then very young children in Spokane,
WA. I got an almost frantic telephone call from my mother-in-law, whom Bud
had raised from a sound sleep to ask if I was going to visit him at his
place in East TN while in state. My mother-in-law was afraid that a family
emergency had arisen!
I am sorry to say that I did not have the opportunity to visit Bud when we
were in Tennessee that trip, and wish that I had made an effort to return
and visit with him personally. He had extended a kind invitation to stay at
his farm house, and I understand many others received the same invitation to
stay and take advantage of his great resources. I look at it as my loss,
and not from a genealogy standpoint, but he was obviously a great fellow to
meet and know.

Regards,
Susan Shane Miller
