Cecil A. Carmichael Sr., 83, of Clinton,
"Bodie" Kim Daugherty, 40, of Clinton,
Audrey B. Hembree, 78, of Clinton,
Arthur J. "Art" Stewart, 76, of Kingston,
Warren Douglas Ashley, 62, of Oliver Springs,
Cecil A. Carmichael Sr., 83, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at St.
Mary's Residential Hospice. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church for 35
years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served in World War II in Gen.
George S. Patton's Third Army. After his discharge, he came to Oak Ridge where
he was employed at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (K-25) as a security
inspector. He worked there for 39 years. While there, he met and married Nell
McGuire. In addition to his parents, Frank S. and Dovie May Carmichael, Mr.
Carmichael was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Nell M. Carmichael;
four brothers, Robert, John, Paul and Jack Carmichael, all of White Pine; and a
sister, Bonnie Franklin of Lenoir City. He is survived by his son, Cecil A.
Carmichael Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Joshua,
Jesse, Nathan, Miriam, Caleb, Rebekah and Hannah Carmichael, all of Clinton; two
brothers, Frank Carmichael of Morristown, and George Carmichael of White Pine;
and two sisters, Robbie May Heacker of Harriman, and Barbara Williams of
Lenoir City The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Mike Gallaher officiating. The burial
will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in
Claxton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of arrangements.
"Bodie" Kim Daugherty, 40, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. The son of Lonnie and Wilma Daugherty of
Clinton, he was born March 9, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Daugherty was a member
of Laurel Grove Baptist Church and was an avid Tennessee football fan. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Daugherty is survived by his fiancé of 21 years,
Misty Poland of Clinton; special children, Rodney Poland and wife, Debra, of
Cumberland County, Tracy Poland of Clinton, and Terra Patterson of Oliver Springs;
two special nephews, Johnathon Cornett and Travis Cornett, both of Clinton;
special niece, Megan Simpson of Clinton; and two sisters, Tammy Simpson and
husband, Larry, and Ashley Daugherty, all of Clinton. The funeral will be at 2
p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, in the chapel at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City
with the Rev. Kenny Sharp and the Rev. Lee Phillips officiating. The burial
will follow the funeral at the Patterson Cemetery in the New River community.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at
the funeral home. Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City in charge of arrangements.
Audrey B. Hembree, 78, of Clinton, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was a member of First Baptist Church in
Clinton, and was an avid doll collector and miniaturist. Mrs. Hembree was preceded
in death by her parents, Fletcher and Julia Wilder Broome, and by a brother and
sister, Hamilton Broome and Evelyn Callaway. She is survived by her husband,
Bill Hembree of Clinton; her daughter, Sharon Moore and husband, Rick, of
Orangeburg, S.C.; her son, Charles "Chuck" Hembree and wife, Brenda, of Clinton;
two sisters, Maxine Hess and husband, N.I., and Ann Smith and husband, Norman,
all of Chattanooga; her brother, F.L. Broome of Chattanooga; her
sister-in-law, Dot Broome of Chattanooga; her brother-in-law, Jimmy Callaway Sr. of
Chattanooga; six grandchildren, David Cook of Clinton, Kelly Cook of Orangeburg,
S.C., Charles "Chuckey" Hembree of Clinton, Matt and Chris Buswell of Clinton,
Melissa Kinard of Walterboro, S.C., and Richard Moore of Aiken, S.C.; and by
numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005,
at First Baptist Church in Clinton. The Rev. Terry Baker will officiate. The
burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in
Chattanooga. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
church. The family has requested memorials be made to The Family Life Center at
First Baptist Church, 225 N. Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of arrangements.
Arthur J. "Art" Stewart, 76, of Kingston, died Sunday morning, April 3, 2005,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Kingston
Church of Christ and a 1949 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, where he lettered
in four sports. Mr. Stewart retired as a major from the U.S. Army National
Guard, and also from Martin Marietta where he worked as a physicist for more than
39 years. He was worthy patron of Dyllis Chapter No. 498, past patron of Oak
Ridge Chapter No. 390, and a member of Laurel Chapter No. 22 Order of the
Eastern Star. He was the master of Eastfork Lodge No. 460, past master of
Southgate Lodge No. 569, and a member of Union Lodge No. 38, and New Faith Lodge, F&
AM. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Commandary and The
Knights Templar. He also was a member of the Kerbela Shrine Center where he
was a van driver with more than 40,000 miles, the Kerbela Patrol, "Mr. Art"
with the Roco Clowns, the Hillbilly Clan No. 24, the Order of Quetzalcoatl No.
138, the Roane County Shrine Club, and the Grainger County Shrine Club. Mr.
Stewart was a devoted husband and father who loved his wife, children and family
unconditionally. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Ethel
Knight Stewart; one son, Arthur Jay Stewart; one grandson, Tony Parris; and
one brother, James Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Gene L. Stewart; four
daughters, Jacquelyn Skidmore and her husband, Bo, Phyllis Wilson, Donna Parris
and her husband, Randy, and Maria Kittrell and her husband, Greg; two sons,
P.J. Lemons and his wife, Jan, and Bill Lemons and his wife, Jenna; one brother,
Clarence Stewart; two sisters, Ruth Stewart and Betty Jones and her husband,
Tommy; eight grandchildren, Kevin Lee McClure and wife, Jessica, Shane Parris,
Natasha Maria and Ryan Brock, and Brandon, Ashton, Vann and Ella Lemons; four
great-grandchildren, Danielle Lee and Taylene Brooke McClure, and Haven and
Braden Parris. A Masonic and Easter Star service will be held at 8 p.m.
Wednesday, April 6, 2005, in the chapel of Davis Funeral Home in Harriman. The
funeral service will follow with the Rev. David Lasiter officiating. The graveside
service with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, at
Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home. Davis Funeral Home in Harriman in charge of
arrangements.
Warren Douglas Ashley, 62, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is
in charge of the arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
