Jack J. Brimer, 71, of Phoenix, Ariz., a former resident of Roane County,
died Friday, March 18, 2005, in Arizona. Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Knoxville, he was
the son of George "Joe" and Lela Edmonds Brimer. He lived in Knoxville until
going into the U.S. Army. Mr. Brimer served his country proudly as sergeant in
the Army during the Vietnam War, receiving several decorations, badges and
commendations. He retired from the military after 20 years of service. He had
also worked several years in the coal mining industry with his father-in-law,
Wilson Walls. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingston. Mr.
Brimer is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Walls Brimer; his children, Alan
Brimer, Debra Homoki and husband, Jason, and David Brimer; his grandsons, Andrew
Homoki and Aaron Homoki, all of Phoenix. He is also survived by his brother,
William "Bill" Brimer of Knoxville; and by many extended family members and
friends. A private memorial service was held Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Davis
Cemetery in Coalfield with Rev. Mike Beech officiating. The family requests that
any memorials be in the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East
Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85015. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs was in
charge of all arrangements.

Kenneth Wayne Godfrey, 64, of Clinton, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Godfrey was a member and deacon at
Temple Baptist Church in Powell. He worked at BWXT/Y-12 as a lab analyst and was a
veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Burl
Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Godfrey of Clinton;
his sons, Andrew Wayne Godfrey and wife, Christie, of Clinton and Matthew
Kenneth Godfrey, also of Clinton; his mother, Thelma Godfrey of LaFollette; his
sister, Brenda Berry of Ellijay, Ga.; and by numerous sisters-in-law,
brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 4,
2005, at Temple Baptist Church in Powell with the Rev. Clarence Sexton
officiating. The family will receive friends after the funeral. The burial will be at
11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The active
deacons at Temple Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of arrangements.

Blanch Halburnt, 93, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. The daughter of John Freels and Sudie
Messer Freels, Mrs. Halburnt was born June 11, 1911, in Anderson County. She was a
lifelong resident of this area, a homemaker, and a member of Union Valley
Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and
great-great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Edgar E. Halburnt; a son, John Grayson Halburnt; two daughters,
Ruby Halburnt and June Halburnt Floyd; and three brothers and three sisters,
Frank Freels, Jess Freels, Earl Freels, Nannie Freels Gentry, Abbie Freels
Rickett and Gladys Freels Mullins. Mrs. Halburnt is survived by three daughters,
Edna Walls and husband, Benjamin, and Cleopatra Brown, all of Oliver Springs, and
Wilma Jean Halburnt Farr and husband, Jimmy, of Coalfield; five sons, Edgar
E. Halburnt Jr. and wife, Martha, of Cleveland, Ohio, James C. Halburnt and
wife, Barbara, of Mt. Juliet, Floyd Halburnt and wife, Youngrye, of Nashville,
Clyde Halburnt and wife, Ola, of Oliver Springs, Clarence Halburnt and wife,
Carol, of Helenwood; and by a sister, Annie Rickett of Oliver Springs. She is
also survived by 37 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, several
great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members,
and special friends. The funeral was held Sunday, April 3, 2005, in the chapel
of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Wayne Morgan
officiating. A graveside service and burial was to be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, at
Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Oliver Springs.

Mary Golden Hicks, 84, of Clinton, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Hicks was a member of St. Mark United
Methodist Church in Clinton, and she retired from the city of Clinton as the deputy
city recorder. Prior to retirement she worked at Lewallen-Millers Department
Store and Magnet Mills Inc. Mrs. Hicks also loved her volunteer work at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, William Charles and
Relda Wilson Golden, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Duncan.
She is survived by her son, Bill T. Hicks and wife, Sandra, of Clinton; two
grandchildren, Billy T. "Chip" Hicks and wife, Susan, of Knoxville, and LeeAnn
Hicks Sherrill and husband, Joseph, of Crossville; four great-grandchildren,
Landon and Zachary Sherrill of Crossville, and Adam and Chad Kennedy of
Knoxville; her great-great-grandchildren, Chad, Garet and Hannah; special niece, Ann
Patton and husband, Harry, of Clinton; uncle, Leon Golden and wife, Delores, of
Clinton; and many beloved cousins, great nieces and great nephews. The
funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at St. Mark United Methodist
Church in Clinton with the Rev. Wayne Hedrick officiating. Her burial will
follow at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 12:30
to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested
memorials be in the form of donations to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 252
North Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in

Jennie E. Jett, 91, of Clinton, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Jett was a lifetime member of Batley Baptist
Church. She enjoyed walking, working with her flowers, and tending to her
chickens. In addition to her parents, her parents, the Rev. James C. Andrews and
Emma etta Disney Andrews, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral Jett,
and two sons-in-law, Ray Timms and Lonas Taylor. Mrs. Jett is survived by her
six children, Retta Faye Adkins and husband, Bertee, of Richmond, Ky., Hazel
Timms of Lavaca, Ark., Shirley Silver and husband, Glenn, of Clinton, Carolyn
Jo Taylor of Watkinsville, Ga., Helen Smith and husband, Freddie, of Coalfield,
and Kenneth Oral Jett and wife, Regina, of Clinton. Mrs. Jett is also
survived by 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2
p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Batley Baptist Church with the Rev. Luke Kidwell
officiating. The burial followed at the Batley Baptist Church Cemetery. Oliver
Springs Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Garnett Cross Kincaid, 78, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at his
home, after a year-long illness. The son of Carl S. and Shollie C. Kincaid, he
was born and raised in the Eagle Bend area in Clinton. Mr. Kincaid was
secretary/treasurer during his years at Magnet Mills Inc. In more recent years, he was
an accountant and co-owned K&K Enterprises in Oak Ridge. He was a lifelong
member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton, where he served as a
trustee, chairman of the administrative board, and chairperson of the Parish Staff
Committee for several years. Mr. Kincaid was also past president of the
Clinton Civitans Club, and had been a member of the Clinton School Board as well as
a member of the board of directors for Union Peoples Bank in Clinton. Mr.
Kincaid was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II. He was a
member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at the University of Tennessee, where he
and his wife, Alice Fonde, met. Mr. Kincaid enjoyed traveling, spending time
with his family, and following UT sports. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his stepmother, Patricia R. Kincaid; a brother, James Barry
Kincaid; and his daughter, Shollie C. Kincaid. He is survived by his wife of 56
years, Alice Fonde Kincaid of Clinton; his son, Garnett C. Kincaid Jr. and
wife, Angie, of Knoxville; his daughters, Angela Kincaid Rentfro and husband,
Jack, of Knoxville, and Lori Ellen Kincaid and husband, John Webb, of Del Rio,
Tenn.; his granddaughter, Tara Webb of New York, N.Y.; his brother, Carl S.
Kincaid and wife, Helen, of Oak Ridge; his sister, Mary Bronwyn Snyder-Jarvis and
husband, Keith, of Columbia, S.C.; and by many nieces and nephews. The
funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Memorial United Methodist
Church in Clinton with the Rev. Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at
Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 1 to
3 p.m. Tuesday, in the fellowship hall at the church. Memorials may be made to
Memorial United Methodist Church, 323 N. Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716, or

Charles Wayne Mitchell, 66, of Titusville, Fla., died Wednesday, March 30,
2005, in Florida Hospital East Orlando. Mr. Mitchell was a native of Washington
County, Tenn., and a son of Charles John "C.J." and Clina Smithey Mitchell. He
worked at Wiltech at the Kennedy Space Center for 40 years. He was a member
of the International Association of Machinists, Local, No. 2061, where he was a
union representative, shop steward, and his last position held was committee
man. He enjoyed fishing and cooking and spending time with the many friends he
leaves behind. Mr. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Kathy D. Mitchell
of Lancaster, S.C., and Debbie Mitchell Castagno and husband, Tony, of Atlanta,
Ga.; his brother, Kenneth Ray Mitchell of New Berrys Port, Mass.; his
granddaughter, Michelle Oquendo of Lancaster, S.C.; his longtime companion, Virginia
Everett of Winter Park, Fla.; two aunts, Lena Mae Gray of Johnson City and
Ruth Kiser and husband, Estel, of Sulphur Springs; a special aunt and uncle,
Evelyn and Jack Blevins of Kingsport; one uncle, Bill Mitchell of Gray; and by
several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 5, 2005, in Monte Vista Memorial Park with the Rev. Dick Morris
officiating. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the East
Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home in Johnson City. The family requests that any
memorials be made in Mr. Mitchell's name to the American Cancer Society, 1599

Connie Hemphill Skapik, 44, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Oak Ridge, died
Friday, March 25, 2005. Born May 13, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she is the
daughter of William and Ruth Hemphill of Oak Ridge. She served her country with the
U.S. Air Force and was currently the organist for David's United Church in
Kettering, Ohio. She was a beautiful woman, mother, wife, grandmother, and
especially a friend to all. In addition to her local parents, Mrs. Skapik is
survived by her husband, Paul Skapik, of 11 years; daughters, Miriam, Rachel and
Wendy; her sisters, Linda Dalton and Kerry Blankenship; her brother, Doug
Hemphill; her grandchildren, Dylin, Victoria, Sophia, Ethan, Gabrielle and Gideon;
and by her nieces and nephews, Kristina, Betheney, Rachel, Jessica, John,
Matthew and Mark. A memorial service was held at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church in
Fairborn, Ohio, with the Rev. Craig Fourman and Sue Nelson officiating. A
musical tribute will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005, at First United
Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. The family requests that any memorials be in the
form of contributions in Connie's name to the Abiding Christ Lutheran Church,
326 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, OH 45324.

Walter Gay Whatley, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 4, 1917, in Alabama, he was the son
of Solomon Huel Whatley and Pearl Thomas Whatley. Mr. Whatley retired from
Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He was a sheet metal worker at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, the X-10 plant. He was a member of Solway Baptist Church, a 32nd
degree Mason with Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756, and belonged to the Coon Hunters
Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife,
Maud Etta Whatley, and his son, Billy G. Whatley. He is survived by his wife
of 16 years, Stella Ann Cartwright Whatley; his stepson, Wayne C. Lindsay of
Sarasota, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Kathy Elizabeth Hickman and husband, James,
of Eugene, W. Va.; his sister, Mary Sue Jones of Sequim, Wash.; three
grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and by numerous
nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, in
the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. The
burial followed at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. The family received
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. at
