BYRD, BEULAH GARDNER - age 70, of Harriman
SIMS, HELEN R. - age 67, of Clinton,
HELFENBERGER, JANIE ROBERT - 77, of Oak Ridge,
RAYFIELD, OSCAR VIRGIL - age 85, of Clinton,
RAYFIELD, WILLIE MAE - age 74, of Clinton,
WARD, NANCY CHASTAIN - 85, of East Ridge, TN,
BYRD, BEULAH GARDNER - age 70, of Harriman went home to be with her Lord on
Thursday, December 9, 2004, at U.T. Medical Center. Beulah was preceded in
death by her father, Alex Lupton Gardner; mother, Frances Beulah Jones Gardner;
brother, Alex Gardner, Jr. and wife, June, brother, Frank Davis; and sister,
Juanita Davis Oran. She was a member of South Harriman Baptist Church for 51
years, and retired in 1990 as Assistant Manager of the local Sears Catalog Store.
To her family, she was the world's greatest wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors are: husband: David Byrd of Harriman; daughter: Theresa Byrd Browder of
Chattanooga; son: Terry M. Byrd and wife, Annette, of Harriman; brothers: H.R.
(Henry) Gardner and wife, Mary, of Cocoa Beach, FL, Bill Gardner and wife,
Lou, of Powder Springs, GA, Bob Gardner and wife, Alice, of Merritt Island, FL;
sister in law, Jean Davis of Vermillion, Ohio; former daughter-in-law: Mary
Lea Byrd/Sullivan and husband, Robert, of Harriman; grandchildren: Leslea and
Eric Byrd of Harriman, Matt and Alex Browder of Chattanooga, Brandon Temple of
Harriman. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, at South Harriman
Baptist Church, with Rev. Edsel West, Rev. Randy Maxwell and Ken Isham
officiating. Interment will follow in Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive
friends from 1- 3 p.m. on Sunday at South Harriman Baptist Church. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to South Harriman Baptist Church. Kyker Funeral

SIMS, HELEN R. - age 67, of Clinton, passed away Friday, December 10, 2004 at
St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church. Preceded in
death by parents, Lawrence & Netta Marie Roop Gray; brothers, Gene, Roy &
Clyde Gray. Born September 14, 1937 in Anderson County. Survivors: husband, Joseph
Sims of Clinton; sons, Steven Smith & wife Libby of Clinton, Randy Smith &
wife Cathy of Clinton; daughter, Tammy Smith Livingston & husband Tim of Halls;
brothers, Robert Gray of Knoxville, Larry Gray & wife Mary Lou of Morristown;
sisters, Shirley Langford & husband Robert of Clinton, Wilma Childs of
Clinton, Carolyn Hall & husband David of Cleveland; grandchildren, Oren Smith, Devan &
Jacky Smith, Zachary & Christopher Livingston; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, December 12, 2004 at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev.
Kenny Bean, Rev. George Miller & Rev. Jackie Bunch officiating. The burial
will be 11:00 AM, Monday at Piney Grove Cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in
Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
HELFENBERGER, JANIE ROBERT - 77, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, December 12, 2004
at the Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Helfenberger was born June 25, 1927 in
London, Kentucky to Robert and Stella Whitaker. She is a member of First
Baptist Church and Eastern Star Chapter #390. Mrs. Helfenberger enjoyed baking,
sewing and gardening. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by: her
brothers Joe and Herbert Whitaker. She is survived by: her husband of 55 years,
Charles Edward Helfenberger; one son, David Helfenberger and his wife,
Shelley of Morristown; two daughters, Diane Clark and her husband, Randy of
Knoxville, Deborah H. Sumner and her husband, Jim of Kingston; one brother, George
Whitaker of London, Kentucky; four sisters, Mary Wagner of Largo, Florida, Alpha
Prewitt of Oak Ridge, Ival White of Lexington, Kentucky, Sarah Shermon of
London, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Ryan Helfenberger of Morristown, Andrew
Clark of Knoxville, Christopher Clark and his wife, Michelle of Cumming, Georgia;
one great- grandchild, Keenen Clark of Cumming, Georgia. A funeral service
will be held Tuesday, December 14 at 7:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary with the
Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. The graveside service will be Wednesday at 1:00
pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from

RAYFIELD, OSCAR VIRGIL - age 85, of Clinton, passed away Friday, December 10,
2004 at Methodist Medical Center due to injuries received in an automobile
accident with his wife, Willie Mae. He was a member of Farmers Grove Baptist
Church & also a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.
Preceded in death by: parents, Ashley & Ella Myers Rayfield; sisters, Grace
Johnson & Nell Rayfield; brothers, Vernard, Ulysses & Loy Rayfield. Survivors:
daughters, Gloria & husband John Gadd of Clinton, Janie & husband Terry Mack of
Clinton; grandchildren, Jordan & Ashlyn Gadd, Charity & Josh Mack; brother,
Roy & wife Betty Rayfield of Clinton; sister-in-law, Ruby Rayfield of Clinton;
brother- in-law, Carl Ray Johnson of Clinton; several nieces and nephews. The
family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Monday, December 13, 2004 at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. The graveside service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday at
Woodhaven Memorial Garden with Rev. Moss Beets officiating. The family has requested

RAYFIELD, WILLIE MAE - age 74, of Clinton, passed away Friday, December 10,

WARD, NANCY CHASTAIN - 85, of East Ridge, TN, died Sunday at Athens Regional
Hospital. Mrs. Ward was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church & retired
employee of Sears. Preceded in death by: husband, John Henry Ward; parents, J.B. &
Martha Reed Chastain; son, Phillip LaMarr Ward. Survivors: sons, Gene Ward &
wife Lucy of Knoxville, Larry Ward & wife Norma of Cleveland, TN; 5
grandchildren. Funeral services 7:30 p.m. Monday, Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, Rev Ed
Sunday-Winters officiating. Family & friends will meet 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lomenick
Cemetery, Chattanooga for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, please make
donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. Family will
receive friends 5:30- 7:30 p.m. Monday at Loudon Funeral Home, Loudon, TN.
