BASLER, CHARLES HARVEY, SR. -
JOHNSON, CAROLYN KNOX HALL - 83, widow of Oak Ridge dentist,

BASLER, CHARLES HARVEY, SR. - died peacefully on November 22, 2004, at home
in Stockbridge, GA surrounded by loved ones. Charles was born September 10,
1917, in Petros, TN. He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 63 years,
Melba June Hart Basler; his parents, Harvey Alexander Basler and Millie Cox
Basler, of Petros, TN; a sister, Thelma Basler Davis, of Rockmart, GA; brothers,
Archie, of Indiana; J. T., of Tullahoma, TN; Willie Dean, Petros, TN. He is
survived by: children, Brenda June Basler, McDonough, GA; Charles Harvey Basler,
Jr. (Melinda Hewgley) Knoxville, TN; John Blanchard Basler (Sonya Teal),
McDonough, GA; grandchildren, Lawrence Herbert Redford, Jr., Muscogee, OK; Tracey
Lee Redford, Muscogee, OK; Charles Harvey Basler, III (Terri Turner),
Hightstown, NJ; Andrew Hayes Basler (Alice Gallegos), Atlanta, GA; Madison Teal
Basler, McDonough, GA; and great grandchildren, Amber Redford, Ft. Worth, TX;
Jackson Thomas Basler, Atlanta, GA; and Sally Grace Basler, Hightstown, NJ;
brother-in law, Howard Hart (Jackie Bradley), Ashdown, AR; sister-in-law Mildred Hart
Dillon, Wartburg, TN. Babe, as he was known to his family and friends, is also
survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Babe was of the Baptist faith. He had a beautiful voice and took great pleasure
in singing in church, on the lake fishing, or in the car with the family. Babe
grew up in Petros, during the depression, and worked in the coal mines for a
time. He spent many years of his adult life in Knoxville, TN, where he worked
for Kraft Foods. He was transferred to Decatur, GA, in 1967. He retired and
spent many years with his family and his bird dogs. Babe will always be
remembered as a solid, plain spoken, working man who would help anyone in need and
could fix anything. His family delights in discussing their assurance of his
ability to land a 747 if there was a need. The family requests no flowers and in
lieu donations be made to Sacred Journey Hospice Foundation, 138 Peach Drive,
McDonough, GA 30253. The family will receive friends Friday, November 26, 5-7
p.m., at the funeral home. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry,

lead a service celebrating Babe's life at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cannon

JOHNSON, CAROLYN KNOX HALL - 83, widow of Oak Ridge dentist, Dr. James David
Johnson Sr., died on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at NHC Health Care in
Farragut, surrounded by family. The daughter of John Nisbet Hall and Anna Mary Ewing
Hall, she was born in Covington, Tennessee. She attended the University of
Memphis where she met her husband of 61 years. A member of Kappa Lambda Sigma
Sorority, she was crowned Freshman Queen and Football Queen while a student there;
she was also named "Who's Who" in American Colleges and Universities. Mrs.
Johnson moved to Oak Ridge in 1950 with Dr. Johnson and helped establish his
dental practice, where she served as his bookkeeper for many years. She was
active in numerous organizations including the Daughters of the American
Revolution, the Dental Alliance, the Jaycettes, and the Oak Ridge Country Club. Mrs.
Johnson was a Cub Scout Den mother, Girl Scout leader, and Paul Harris Fellow of
the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge. She volunteered at her children's Elementary
Schools, where she served as room mother for several years. A life-long
Presbyterian and descendant of Scottish Covenanter John Nisbet, she was a member of the
Covenant Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Johnson was an
avid bridge player and loved entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Johnson is
survived by: her daughter, Carol Bruce Johnson Parham and husband David Howard
Parham of Nashville; her son, Dr. James David Johnson, Jr. of Oak Ridge; five
grandchildren, Elizabeth Ewing Parham and David McClure Parham of Nashville,
and Andrew Kelly Johnson, Katherine Hall Johnson, and Carolyn Petrey Johnson,
all of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by: three nieces; and one nephew. She was
preceded in death by: her two sisters, Vance Hall McQuiston and Mary Virginia
Hall Cobb; and her daughter-in- law, Elizabeth Kelly Johnson. The funeral
will be at 11:00am Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends
on Monday from 5:00-7:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The family requests that
any memorials be in the form of contributions to Covenant Presbyterian Church,
190 Manhattan Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. An on-line guest book can be signed
