Edwardine Davin Grindell, 88,
Roger "Jerry" Jerome Hargis, 53, of the Joyner Community,
Madge Bottenfield Jett, 85, formerly of Oak Ridge,
Fred Allen McCrary, 79, of Oak Ridge,
Eurel Leonard Grizzele, 67, of Oliver Springs,
Edwardine Davin Grindell, 88, died Oct. 17, 2004, just before her 89th
birthday and her 64th wedding anniversary. She was a loving, caring wife, mother and
grandmother, her family said. During World War II, she worked as a machinist
and an employee counselor at Martin Aircraft in Middle River, Md. After the
war, she supported her husband, enabling him to graduate from Carnegie Institute
of Technology in Pittsburgh, under the G.I. Bill. She raised her children in
Oak Ridge, where she participated in their school activities, the Multiple
Sclerosis Society fund drives and Planned Parenthood. She believed in the Planned
Parenthood's birth control work and philosophy, her family added. She is
survived by her husband, Albert; her daughter, Maureen Ellen Grindell, of
Albuquerque, N.M.; her son, Don Kevin Grindell, of San Francisco, Calif.; her
grandson, Mica Grindell-Holmes, of Albuquerque, N.M.; her sister, Kathleen Meinen, of
DeForest, Wis.; her sisters-in-law, Thelma R. Connolley, of Baltimore, Md.,
Muriel Davin, of Bel Air, Md., and Lydia Davin, of Cottondale, Fla.; and by many
nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and private family services
will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. Sunrise Funeral Options in Albuquerque, N.M.
was in charge of arrangements.
Roger "Jerry" Jerome Hargis, 53, of the Joyner Community, died Monday, Oct.
18, 2004, with his wife, children, son-in-law and grandson at his side.
According to his family, he was a wonderful husband, father and papaw. He was a
friend to everyone and was always willing to help others. He was an employee of
the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the past 30 years and a member of Liberty
Baptist Church in Wartburg. His interests were church, racing, old cars,
riding his motorcycles and spending time with family and friends, his family said.
He was a special person and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Rose and Guy Hargis; his brother, Larry Hargis; and his sister,
Sandra Sue Dionne. He is survived by his wife, Diana Mae Allen Hargis; his
son, Rodney Jerome Hargis; his daughter, Stacy Diane and her husband, Joel
Lasig, all of Wartburg; his grandson, Lukas Roger J. Lasig, of Wartburg; his
brothers, Patrick and Steven Hargis, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his aunt, Juanita
Hargis, of Wartburg; and many nieces, nephews and several friends. The family
appreciates the love and friendship given to Jerry and his family. The funeral will
be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 in the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home in
Wartburg, with the Rev. Paul Frick and the Rev. David Acres officiating. A
graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in Liberty Baptist Church
cemetery in Wartburg. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 21, at Schubert Funeral Home.
Madge Bottenfield Jett, 85, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Oct. 16,
2004, at NHC HealthCare in Farragut. Born Dec. 15, 1918, in Malden, Mo., she was
the daughter of Hearl and Neece Book. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church of Oak Ridge and a retired registered nurse who had worked for the
Family Practice of Oak Ridge. She was also a member of the Lioness Club, and
enjoyed volunteering at Methodist Medical Center, West Mall Nursing Home, and
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, Baird F. Bottenfield, and her
brother, Herbert L. Book. She is survived by her husband, Col. Charles E. Jett,
of Knoxville; her two sons, Larry C. Bottenfield and wife, Deborah, of New
Braunfels, Texas, and Alan B. Bottenfield and wife, Anne, of LaGrange, Ga.; her
daughter, Terrie Ware Rincon and husband, Frank, of Knoxville; her brother,
James Book and wife, Doris, of Gary, Ind.; her three grandchildren, Brad Turner,
Kristen Bottenfield Willimon and Lindsay Bottenfield; and her great-grandson,
John Joseph Turner. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in
the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Cantrell
officiating. A graveside service will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver
Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 21, at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be in
the form of donations to Recording For The Blind and Dyslexic, 205 Badger Ave.,
Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or to the Alzheimers Association, 2200 Sutherland Ave.

Fred Allen McCrary, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.
Eurel Leonard Grizzele, 67, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004,
at Mabry Health Care Center of Gainsboro. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.
