Martha Lou "Granny" Braden, 82, of Clinton, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at
St. Mary's Hospice in Knoxville. She was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist
Church and former employee of the former Magnet Mills in Clinton. According to
her family, "Granny" Braden enjoyed crotcheting, nature rides in the mountains
and was an avid University of Tennessee sports fan. Her grandchildren were the
light of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and
Srelda Rainey; her brother, Robert Leonard Rainey; and her sister, Mary Jane
Rainey. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Roberts and Ruth Lafferty, both of
Knoxville; her son, Johnny Braden Sr. and wife, Ann, of Caryville; her eight
grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchidren; her brothers, Mack Rainey, of Dayton,
Ohio, and Ralph Rainey, of Mims, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and her
childhood friend, Mae Daugherty, of Rockwood. The graveside service will be at 2
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The family requests that any memorials be in
the form of donations to St. Mary's Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville
Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938 or Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church, 265 Jarnigan Chapel
Road, Clinton, TN 37716.

Robert Eugene Carney, 69, of Rockwood, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Speights Chapel AME
Zion Church and active in the CB Clubs of Roane County. Before his retirement, he
was employed as a janitor for 34 years at X-10 Plant, part of Oak Ridge
National Laboratory. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Ann Carney;
his parents, Jesse and Mary E. Carney and Charlie and Leia Gillespie; his
grandparents, John and Mattie Norfleet; and his brother, James Carney. He is
survived by his wife of 42 years, Eva Carney; his daughters, Belinda Anderson, of
Harriman, Mary and Jana Carney, of Rockwood, and Rachel Wilkerson, of Athens;
his five grandchildren, Quinn and Kiesha Sawyer, of Harriman, LaStasha and
Artemis Carney, of Rockwood, and Denisha Wilkerson, of Athens. He is also survived
by his sisters, Dorothy Childs, of Detroit, Mich., Jessie Hughes, of
Harriman, and Juanita Gordon, of Rockwood; his brothers, Charles Carney and wife,
Bessie, Frank Carney and companion, Lillian Anderson, all of Rockwood; his
sisters-in-law, Grace Carney, of Athens, Jessie Lee Arnwine and husband, Billy, and
Pauline Arnwine, all of Niota; his nephew, Albert Hawkins, of Rockwood; his
devoted friend, Sam Standards, of Rockwood; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in the
chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood with the Rev. Brady Springs officiating. A
graveside service will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the mortuary.

Lillian "Lynn" Currier, 58, of Clinton, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 18, 1946, in Stone, Ky., she was
the daughter of Johnnie and Trudy Smith, of Ypsilanti, Mich. She enjoyed
quilting, sewing, flowers and her grandchildren, her family said. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Smith, of Stone, Ky.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Currier; her sons, David Currier and
wife, Michelle, Brian Currier and wife, Misty, all of Clinton, and Michael
Currier and wife, Mandi, of Oak Ridge; her brother, Bobby H. Smith and wife,
Juanita, of Pikeville, Ky.; her sister, Goldie Varney and husband, Elmer, of
Ypsilanti, Mich.; her step-mother, Marie Smith, and step-sister, Phyllis Phillips and
husband, Benny, all of Ypsilanti, Mich.; her grandchildren Brent, Dylan,
Michael, Brittany, Samantha and Tyler; her several nephews and nieces; and Katie
Hudson, of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in
the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Luke Kidwell
officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home. Online messages for

Ada Frank Taylor, 68, of Kingston, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. She was a member of First
Baptist Church in Kingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.L. Taylor
Sr., and her parents, Grandville and Susie Morton. She is survived by her
children, Martin Luther Taylor Jr., of Kingston, Robert Houston Taylor Sr., of
Knoxville, Melinda Dawn Northern, of Kingston, Jason Henry Taylor, of Knoxville,
Pamela Susan Noland, of Kingston, Melissa Diane DuBose, of Oak Ridge, and
Charles Edward Taylor, of Kingston; her sisters, Lorene Deatheredge, of Ohio, and
Diane Williams, of Kingston; her brothers, Bob, Ted, Ronnie and Paul Morton, all
of Kingston; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in the chapel at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston with Dr. Roy
Graves officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home.
