Laura Eileen Burtis-Fuller, 44, of Valdosta, Ga. died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004,
at her residence. Born on March 13, 1960, in Montrose, Co., she was the
daughter of Carl and Marvel Burtis, of Oak Ridge. She attended elementary schools
in Indiana, Tennessee, California and Georgia. She graduated from Parkview High
School in Lilburn, Ga. in 1978 and from Georgia Southern with a bachelor
degree in elementary education in 1983. She moved to the Atlanta area in 1983 and
had numerous jobs in day care centers, hotels, law offices, Home Depot and
Georgia Pacific. She moved to Valdosta in 2001, where she attended Open Bible
Baptist Church. She loved children and life and had a sparkling sense of humor,
her family said. Her wit was widely acknowledged by family and friends. For
example, once when a customer at a hotel in Atlanta where she was working
complained about the food in the restaurant, she answered by saying, "Sir, I
apologize; obviously, you got the food that was meant for staff." She also had a
special love for her cats and was always able to relate wonderful stories of her
life with them, her family added. She is survived by her husband, Jack Fuller,
of Valdosta; her daughter, Lindsey Diane Burtis-Fuller, of Valdosta; her
sisters, Lisa Burtis, of Oak Ridge, and Linda Rice and husband David, of Wilmington,
N.C.; her in-laws, Jean and Al Crews, of Valdosta; her brother-in-law, Tater
and wife Karen Fuller, of Cartersville, Ga.; her sister-in-law, JoAnn and
husband David Bult and their son, Chipper, of Mullins, S.C. She was cremated and a
private service was held on Oct. 11, 2004, in Oak Ridge. The family requests
that any memorials be in the form of donations to Odyssey Hospice Health Care,
410 E. Park Ave., Valdosta, GA, 31602. An online guestbook may be signed at

Dustin James Rhea, infant son of Patricia J. Rhea and Travis Glenn Carroll,
died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at his home. He was born July 25, 2004, in Oak
Ridge. He is survived by his brothers, Dylan Jacob Carroll and Travis Caimon
Carroll, both of Clinton; his sister, Amber Leigh Carroll, of Clinton; and his
grandparents, Dessie Braden of Dalton, Ga., Layton Carroll of Oak Ridge and
Kenneth and Pam Daugherty of Oliver Springs. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Farmer's Grove Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home of
Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.


Eileen Smelcher, 59, of Clinton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at The
University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. She was a member of Harriman
Church of God and loved her grandchildren and UT football, her family said. She was
preceded in death by her father, Charles F. Glenn Sr. and her brother, George
F. Glenn. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Leroy Smelcher, of
Clinton; her mother, June Glenn, of Florida; her sons, John T. Winters Jr. and
wife Judy, of Clinton, Tim Winters and wife Heather, of Clinton, Terry Lee
Smelcher, of Louisville, and Michael C. Smelcher, of Chattanooga; her daughter,
Sherry Brummitt and husband Ronald, of Clinton; her brothers, Charles F. Glenn
Jr., of Florida; her sister, Wendy Kantorick and husband Tommy, of Florida; eight
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Louise Miracle, of
Lake City; her brother-in-law, Jim Smelcher, of Knoxville; and several nieces
and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 12, 2004, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with funeral services
following in the chapel with the Rev. James C. Bandy, the Rev. Otis Ball and
the Rev. Michael McCartney officiating.

Helen Marguerite Young Zeigler, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at the
Baptist Health Care Center in Lenoir City. A native of Pocahontas, Va., and 56-year
resident of Tazewell, Va., she was greatly loved by her family and the many
children she helped teach and nurture for more than 20 years in the kindergarten
program of the Tazewell County School system in Virginia, her family said.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jesse Littleton Zeigler
II, of Tazewell, Va. After his death in 1999, she moved to Tennessee until her
death. While in Tazewell, she attended the Tazewell Baptist Church for more
than 50 years and was active in womens' groups and church activities. Her family
said she enjoyed crafts, especially making quilts and afghans for her family,
gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren, Jesse "Jay"
Littleton Zeigler III, and his wife, Vickie, and their daughters, Amy and
Ashley, of St. Paul, Va.; Cynthia Zeigler DeMauri and her husband, Robert, of
Charlottesville, Va., and their son, Stephen, of Arlington, Va.; Marilyn Zeigler
McLaughlin and her husband, Samuel, of Knoxville, and their son, Matthew
McLaughlin, and his wife, Christina, and her new great-granddaughter, Madelin Anne,
of Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. Zeigler was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at
the Perry and St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Robert W.
Belcher, pastor of the Tazewell Baptist Church, officiating. The burial
service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Grandview Memory
Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Va. The family will receive friends beginning at
6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home. The family requests that any
memorials be in the form of donations to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512
Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD, 20871-1950; or the Baptist Health Care
Center, 700 Williams Ferry Road, Lenoir City, TN, 37771.

Jeffrey Glenn Davis, 63, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.

Abner Jordan, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Methodist Medical
Center of Oak Ridge. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of
arrrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.
