Elmer Burchfield, age 76 of Pahrump, NV, formerly of the Stainsville
community in Anderson County died Sept. 12 at his home in Pahrump NV. He was a member
of the Clinchmore Church of God and employed by Empire Refrigeration. He
enjoyed hunting and loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George S. and Ada Phillips
Burchfield; brothers, Dewey Lee, Ray and Billy Burchfield.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Montoya; son, Eric Burchfield both of
Pahrump, NV; grandson, Manual Eric; brothers, Travis Burchfield of Strunks, KY,
Ralph Burchfield of Grantspass, OR, Johnny Burchfield of Las Vegas, NV, Roy
Burchfield of Stainsville, TN; sisters, Imogene Leab of Lake City, Georgia Seeber
of Oliver Springs, Lillian Byrge of Vasper, Frankie Nelson of LaFollette;
several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Sept. 16 at Grave Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Murell
Phillips and Rev. LeRoy Braden officiating. Internment was in Grave Hill
Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Richard L. Davis, age 89 died Sept. 14 at Manor of Whitehall. He was born
Jan. 25, 1915 in LaFollette. He was retired from DCSC after 30 years of service;
he was USMC veteran World War II Pacific Theatre, Iwo Jima and the Korean
Conflict. He was a former member of North Broadway United Methodist Church and
First Baptist Church of Columbus. He loved country music, the New York Yankees
and Ohio State football.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Alan Davis; former wives, Pauline
Marsh Davis and Mildred F. Davis; sisters, Marie Davis and Grace Lang;
brothers, Lawrence Johnson, Mack Davis and Buck Davis.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Davis of
Cantfield, Oh; grandchildren, Sunny Holland, Josh Davis, Sandy Ewing, Zachary
Davis, Kathryn Davis and Jacob Davis; eight great grandchildren; nephews, Jim and
Jerry Davis of LaFollette; niece, Clara and husband, Paul Young and their
family of Clinton and LaFollette.
Graveside services were Sept. 25 at Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH. Evans
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Thomas Wayne Freeman, age 57 of Oak Ridge/Sunbright, formerly of Lake City
died Sept. 20 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was an employee
of Methodist Medical Center where he had worked for over 25 years as an
anesthesia tech. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Carrie Worthington Freeman;
sisters, Dean Tackett, Marsha Diane Freeman, Faye Stocks; brother, Ken
Freeman.
He is survived by his wife, Etta Freeman of Oak Ridge; daughter, Melissa
Renee Jenkins and husband, Harold of Claxton; sons, Terry Lynn Sammons and wife,
Tina of Sunbright, Thomas Dewayne Freeman and wife, Celina of Powell;
grandchildren, Terry "Brian" Logan, Paul Odessa, Sean Drake and Kevin Jett Sammons;
sisters, Carolyn Parks, Kathy Overton, Wanda Hamby, Rachel Sue Baumgardner and
Betty Smith; brother, Bob Freeman of Texas; special friend, Patricia Ann Messer
of Clinton; mother-in-law, Bonnie L. Kennedy of Oak Ridge.
Funeral services were Sept. 22 in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home
with Elder Jimmy Ray Seiber and Chaplain Jack Sills officiating. Interment will
be Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Patterson Cemetery in Briceville with full
military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
Brenda Gail Brock Hatmaker, age 51 of Caryville died Sept. 19 at the St.
Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Jacksboro Church
of Christ. Brenda was a very loving and caring person who was kind and had a
great love for animals. She was the co-owner of the Texaco Express Lube of
Jacksboro.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Brock.
She is survived by her husband, David Hatmaker; sons and daughter-in-law,
Bradley Shane and Lisa Hatmaker; David Scott Hatmaker; mother, Rosa Jackson
Brock; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and John Perkins all of Caryville; and a
host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were Sept. 21 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. David Hicks officiating. Interment was in Jacksboro Cemetery. Martin
Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gloria Jean Martinez, age 39 of LaFollette died Sept. 12 at her home. She was
a member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her step-father, Danny Ausmus.
She is survived by her son, Chelan A. and wife, April Martinez;
granddaughter, Angel A. Martinez, all of LaFollette; mother, Alicia S. Ausmus, Jacksboro;
sister, Roberta Guzman, Houston, TX, grandmother, Alice Garza, Houston, TX;
step-sister, Nancy Ramirez, step-brother, Anthony Guzman, both of Houston.
Graveside services were Sept. 16 at Campbell Memorial Gardens with Father Joe
Campbell officiating. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Henry R. Mullins Jr., age 79 of LaFollette died Sept.17 at 6:45 AM at the St.
Mary's of Campbell County Medical Center Nursing Home. He belonged to
LaFollette United Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in
the Navy. He belonged to Jacksboro Masonic Lodge #322 F and AM, he worked at
Union Carbide of Oak Ridge Y-12 plant for 22 _ years. He was a loving husband,
father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his
family and friends. He especially enjoyed being with his great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. Mullins SR. and Isbell
Trowbridge Mullins; sister, Charolette Quillen; a special uncle and aunt, Bob and
Vera Delap.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Christine Ridenour Mullins; daughter
and son-in-law: Nora Lou and George Ellison all of LaFollette; grandchildren,
Rev. Brent Ellison and wife, Tonya; Candie Roberts and husband, Benny of
Jacksboro; great grandchildren; Laureen, Kirsten, and Blake Roberts; Seth and
Jarret Ellison whom he loved very much; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were Sept. 19 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. Danny Hensley officiating. Interment was in Campbell Memorial Gardens
with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Pallbearers were
Edward Ridenour, David Reed, J.L. Stittums, Ed Henegar, Benny Roberts, and
Jeff Hoskins. Honorary Pallbearers were Claude Brown, Walter Witt, Arnold
Hatmaker, and Lindsay Reed. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Harold D. Noble, age 67 of LaFollette died Sept. 16 at St. Mary's Health and
Rehabilitation Center in LaFollette. He was a member of Lick Creek Baptist
Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Noble; brothers, Jack Noble
and George Wesley Noble.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Noble Smith of LaFollette; nephew, Gregory
D. Noble of LaFollette; several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were private. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Dean Rice, age 69 of LaFollette, formerly of Jellico died Sept. 18 at
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy L. Rice, Sr.; parents,
Charlie and Lillie Hicks; sisters, Hazel Bray, Masel Hicks and Carrie Mae Woods.
She is survived by her sons, Billy L. Rice, Jr., and wife, Pat of Canton, GA,
Teddy Rice, Sr. of Jellico; daughters, Patricia Rice Garrett and husband,
Chucky of Eagan, Melissa Gail Rice, LaFollette; grandchildren, Shonnie Shimms,
Canton, GA, Donna Metcalf, Eagan, Stephanie Rice, Dalton, GA, Teddy Ray Rice,
Jr, Cleveland, Steven Rice, LaFollette, Corey Rice, LaFollette;
great-grandchildren, Alexis Crane, Canton, GA, Breydon Sims, Canton, GA, Wesley Garrett,
Eagan, Nicholas Metcalf, Eagan; brothers, Junior Hicks, Elizabethton, KY, Elmer
Hicks, LaFollette; sisters, Julia Ayers, Englewood, Ada Rose, Toledo, OH.
Funeral services were Sept. 21 at Harp Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bowman
officiating. Interment was in the Oddfellows cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Trula Seiber, Age 70 of Powell, formerly of Devonia, died Sept. 14 at the
Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. She was born July 25, 1934 in Campbell
County to the late Rosher and Tennie McKamey Burress. She was a member of the Free
Communion Baptist Church in Devonia. She loved spending time with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved quilting. She was a wonderful
mother. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Martha Jane Seiber;
sisters, Pearl Hood, Beulah Brown and Susie Hall.
She is survived by her husband ,Pless Seiber ,Powell; sons ,James Seiber and
wife Margaret, Lake City ,P.J. Seiber and wife Anita, Jacksboro, John Seiber
and wife Pat, Claxton; daughter, Sharon Gaylor and husband Steve, Claxton;
brother, Abe Burress, Coalfield; grandchildren, Angel Phillips, Jamie Seiber,
April Coward, Derek Gaylor ,Jennifer Seiber, Kevin Gaylor and Derek Seiber, great
grandchildren, Patience Seiber, Patrick Seiber, Faith Phillips, Eddie Coward,
Daymon Seiber and Hope Phillips.
Funeral Services were Sept. 17 at the Free Communion Baptist Church with Rev.
John Seiber and Rev. Paul Burress officiating. Interment was in the Seiber
Family Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gladys Marie Sheckles, age 90 of LaFollette, went home to be with the Lord
while being surrounded by her son Monroe, granddaughter Carolyn and great
granddaughter Chesni on Saturday Sept. 18 at the St. Mary's Health and Rehab. She
was member of Mount Paron Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother,
great grandmother, and great great grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with
her family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Sheckles, son, Fred Sheckles
and infant son; great grandchild, Bailey Ivey; parents, Jim and Isabelle
Lawson Smith; brother; Clyde Smith;sisters; Maye Albright and Juanita Savage.
She is survived by her son and very special daughter,Monroe and wife, Dean
Sheckles, grandchildren, Vickie Queener and late husband Dan, Carolyn Aldridge
and husband Gary, Danny Sheckles and wife Shelia, Angie Adcock and husband
Junior all of LaFollette; great grandchildren, Ray Ivey and wife Amy, Chesni
Tiller, Travis Forsyth and wife Carrie, Justin Aldridge and wife Carrie, April
Baird and husband Bill, and Matt Forsyth; great great grand daughters, Briana
Tiller and Alisa Baird all of LaFollette; several nieces and nephews and host of
other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were Sept. 20 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. Paul Hembree and grandson Danny Sheckles officiating. Interment was in
Bakers Forge Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Edith Caperton Stults, age 67 of Waynesboro, TN died Sept. 17 at Maury
Regional Hospital in Columbia. She was born April 26, 1937 to the late Paul Neal
Caperton, Sr. and Maxie Wade McGee Caperton; wife of the late William Oscar
Stults, Jr.; sister of the late, Paul N. Caperton, Jr. She was a member of the
Green River Baptist Church and the church choir. She was a retired factory worker
and foster grandparent at Waynesboro Elementary School.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula L. Middleton, Lewisburg, TN; sons,
Ricky G. Stults, Sr., Speedwell, Dave A. and William Barry Stults, both of
Waynesboro; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Butler,
Lawrenceburg, TN, Ruth Hayes, Sheffield, Al, Neva Odle and Shirley Kilburn, both
of Collinwood, TN and Billie Dodd, Waynesboro, TN; brothers, Frank, Edward,
Larry and Stanley Caperton of Lawrenceburg, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sept. 18 at Green River Baptist Church with Cal Hampton
officiating. Interment was in Memorial Gardens. Shackleford Funeral Directors
was in charge of the arrangements.
Winnie Ward, age 75 of Caryville died Sept. 19 at the St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Red Oak Baptist Church. She was
a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time
with her family and friends. She also loved to sew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paris Ward; sons, Ricky and
Timmy Ward; parents, Rev. Matthew and Bell E. Phillips Duncan; brothers,
Albert, Harvey and Jimmy Duncan; sisters, Polly Seibers, Ellen Byrge, and Mary
Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Paris Ward of LaFollette; daughter, Dorothy
Williams of Jacksboro; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were Sept. 21 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. James Adkins officiating. Interment was in Beechfork Cemetery. Martin
Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Juanita Naomi May Wilson, age 79 went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 19 at
the St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. She was the fourth child born to Frank
and Laura May.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Elmer Cole of
Hixson, Rissa and Alvin Ward of Jacksboro, Dodie and Wally Reed, of LaFollette,
Doris and George Stanfield of LaFollette; nine grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren; sister, Frankie Hatmaker of Baltimore, MD; brother, Bobby May of
Jacksboro; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be held Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. at the Jacksboro First
Baptist Church; the receiving of friends will begin at 7 p.m. In order to help
others her last wishes were to have her body donated to UT Medical Science. In
lieu of flowers the family requests any remembrances of memorials may be made to
Jacksboro First Baptist Church.
