RUFFNER, LUCILLE J. - age 89, of Coalfield,
CUMMINS, PAUL W. "WOODY" - age 91 passed away Thursday September 23, 2004 at
Windwood Nursing Home in Clinton. Preceded in death by wife: Grace Carver
Cummins, daughter: Carolyn Wilcox. He was a Member of Beulah United Methodist
Church; retired from the State Dept. of Revenue, He worked in several Civic and
Fraternal including Lions Club, Over the Hill KHS Trojan Athletic Club and the
ORGAN-IZERS of Oak Ridge. Survivors: daughter: Mary Ann and husband Cecil
Conner of Clinton; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 13 half brothers and
sisters; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 3:00 P.M. Sunday Rose
Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev John Mays and Rev Ashley Calhoun officiating.
Family and friends will meet at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery 11:45 A.M.
Monday for interment at 12:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family request
memorials be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or to Millers Chapel United
Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at
Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
DAVIS, DENT C. JR. - age 86 of Knoxville, died at Ft. Sanders Regional
Thursday, September 23, 2004. Mr. Davis was retired as a Chemical Engineer with the
US Department of Energy, Oak Ridge. He is survived by; wife, Josephine (Jo)
Davis; sons & daughters-in-law, Rev. Dr. Dent C. Davis and Mary Davis of
Decatur, GA, Kent C. and Becky Davis of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Karyl, Denny,
Micah, Seth and Amber Davis, Rachel Bargo, Kim and David Heuberger and Katrina
Turgeon. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM Monday, at Sequoyah Hills
Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Barron officiating. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church memorial
fund, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville, 37919. Arrangements provided by Rose
Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
HENSLEY, BARBARA SUE (TUCKER) - age 64, of Knoxville, passed away September
24, 2004 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was born in Petros, but
lived most of her growing up years in Caryville and LaFollette before going to
Business College in Knoxville. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father Horace E. Tucker in 1974, brother
Jimmy Ray Tucker in 1987, husband Jack LaVaughn in 1999 and son Michael Scott
Hensley in 2001. She is survived by son Mark Steven Hensley and wife Michelle; 2
grandsons, Noah age 5 and Nicholas age 20 months all of Suwanee, GA; mother
Lorene A. Tucker Claiborne of LaFollette; sister Norma Jean (Tucker) Lumpkin and
husband C. Poe of Huber Heights, Ohio. Family and friends will meet, 1:45
p.m., Monday, Halls Memory Gardens for a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Dr.
Charles Earl officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00
p.m. Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home.
JONES, BOBBY EUGENE - age 72, of Briceville, Tn., passed away Friday,
September 24, 2004 at the U. T. Medical Center in Knoxville. The family will receive
friends on Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 6 to 8 pm at the Holley- Gamble
Funeral Home in Lake City with the funeral service to follow at 8 pm in the
chapel with Rev. Albert Slusher officiating. Interment will be Monday, September
27, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Circle Cemetery in Briceville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home
in Lake City in charge of all arrangements
LAMB, BERLEAN - age 86 of Lake City, TN, passed away Thursday, September 23,
2004 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born March 5,
1918 in Knox County, Tennessee to the late William Tell and Irene Estella
Waddell Lamb. Berlean was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved
old cars, building and woodworking. Berlean was the founder of the Green
Valley Truck Stop and Lamb's Inn Motel and Restaurant. He is preceded in death by:
his parents, brothers, Clarence Lamb and Rev. Bill Lamb. Survivors: sons,
Berlean "Jake" Lamb, Jr. & wife Mary Lou Clinton, TN, William Joe Lamb, Clinton,
TN, Roger Lamb, Clinton, TN; daughters, Rita Jean Beach & husband Tom,
Richfield, NC, Linda Wells, Clinton, TN; sister, Opal Hickey, Clinton, TN; 11
grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. Visitation 6-8:00 pm Saturday, September 25,
2004 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home. Funeral service 8:00 pm Saturday, September
25, 2004 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hanes officiating.
The family will be at the home of Jake Lamb in Clinton, TN. Hatmaker Funeral
Home of Lake City in charge of arrangements.
RUFFNER, LUCILLE J. - age 89, a lifelong resident of Coalfield, passed away
Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She
was born May 6, 1915 in Coalfield, Tennessee. She was a member of Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. Mrs. Ruffner retired from the Morgan County
School Systems where she had worked as a cafeteria worker. Preceded in death by
her husband, Doyle Ruffner; sons, Donald & Harold Ruffner; parents, Richard &
Abbie Craig Jackson; brothers, Oliver William "Pete" Jackson and Joseph "Sabe"
Jackson; sisters, Mary Sampsell, Kate Irene Stubbs, Elberta Fagan and
Gertrude Purdy; daughter-in-law, Lori Ruffner. Survivors: sons, Ralph W. Ruffner of
Coalfield, Earl Thomas Ruffner of Coalfield, Jimmy D. Ruffner of Dayton, Ohio;
11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; A host of friends and extended
family members. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday,
September 27, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Home with funeral service following at 8:00 pm, in
the chapel with Dr. Billy Edmonds officiating. Burial and graveside service
will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Estes Cemetery in
Coalfield. Sharp Funeral Home of Oliver Springs in charge of all arrangements.
