Bob G. Baker Sr., 78, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Heartland Health Care in
Ann Arbor, Mich. Born June 8, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of
Walter and Margaret (Yenson) Baker. He was a 1943 Belleville High School graduate
and was a member of Saint Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church in Belleville, Mich. and
the Belleville Rotary Club where he had perfect attendance for 33 years. He
served on many different Belleville area committees and clubs. He was in the fire
department for 50 years, the planning commission for 16 years, where he was
the chairman for seven years, and was on the downtown development authority for
six years, as well as he was an electrical inspector for 40 years. He was the
owner of Willis Hardware for 21 years and worked as an electrician for over
60 years before he retired. He also received his private pilot license at age
59. He enjoyed golf, hunting, camping, snowmobiling and flying his airplane.
When his children were young he was a 4-H leader for 15 years and was also in
charge of the Young Peoples Society at St. Pauls. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Nina Baker. He is survived by his
wife of over 60 years, Mildred Mida Baker; sons Robert Baker Jr. and wife,
Sharon, of Coto de Caza, Calif. and James Baker and wife, Linda, of Frankenmuth,
Mich.; a daughter Joan Vicary and husband, Thomas, of Oak Ridge; 10
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Alvin Baker and wife, Alice, of
Ypsilanti. The funeral was Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at the St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran
Church with Pastor James Frey officiating. The interment was held at Glen
Eden Cemetery in Livonia, Mich. The family requests that any memorials be in the
form of donations to St. Pauls, 47445 West Huron River Drive, Belleville, MI,
48111. David C. Brown Funeral Home in Belleville was in charge of
arrangements.
Frank Phillip Crawford, 72, of Clinton, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at St.
Mary's Residential Hospice. He was a lineman for Clinton Utility Board for 12
years and Knoxville Utility Board for 18 years. He was an electrician in the
maintenance department at Anderson County Board of Education. He was also a
salesman at Liford Electric in Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Vonnie C. and Elizabeth Collins Crawford; brothers, Roy, Edward, Gene, Clarence,
Leo and Cleo Crawford and sister, Georgie Thacker. He is survived by his
wife, Mary "Lorene" Crawford, of Clinton; a son, Gary and wife, Kristie Rockett
Crawford, of Knoxville; a daughter, Angela Crawford, of Clinton, and her best
friend, Ben Lago, of Oak Ridge; a brother, Vonnie Clyde Crawford Jr., of
Phoenix, Ariz.; and sisters, Ella Collier, of Rockwood, and Clarice Shaw, of
Kingston. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Paul Cox officiating. Burial
will follow at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23 at the
funeral home.
Roy Jennings, 83, of Heiskell, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at his home. Born
April 14, 1922, in Anderson County, he was the son of Dexter and Mandy
Humphrey Jennings. He was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church and his favorite
hobby was repairing antique clocks, according to his family. He also was a
veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
sons, Michael Lynn Jennings and Donald Wayne Jennings. Mr. Jennings is survived
by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Duncan Jennings; a sister, Zella Hudson, of
Clinton; sisters-in-law, Cleo and Marolyn Duncan, of Heiskell; and several
nieces and nephews and a other relatives and friends. A graveside service was to
be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Sartin Cemetery with the Rev. Allen
Giles officiating. Burial will follow. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is
in charge of arrangements.
Jonathan M. Newport, 33, of Clinton, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at The
University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. He was a member of Eagle
Bend Apostolic Church in Clinton and a loving husband and father, his family
said. He was a Boy Scout leader, involved in 4-H, showing sheep and very active in
his church. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Billings, and son,
Caleb Newport. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Tammy Newport; a son,
Joshua Newport and a daughter, Amber Newport, all of Clinton; his mother,
Dixie Pyles, of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Nathan Newport and wife, Janice, of
Oliver Springs, and Michael Pyles, of Oak Ridge; a sister, Lois Amos, and her
husband, Vince, of Oak Ridge; his mother-in-law, Loretta Duncan and husband, Ken,
of Oliver Springs; his father-in-law, George Andrews, and his wife, Kathy, of
Clinton; his sister-in-law, Tonya Hatmaker and son, Joseph, of Clinton; and
close friends, Chuck and Connie Sharp and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Eagle Bend Apostolic Church with the
Rev. David Triplett and David Massengill officiating. Burial followed at
Grandview Cemetery in Clinton. Jones Mortuary in Clinton was in charge of
arrangements.
Helen Scarbrough, 80, of Clinton, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.
She was a loving Christian wife, mother, aunt and friend, her family said.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Earl Scarbrough Jr.; a grandson,
Donald Ray Scarbrough; her parents; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived
by her husband of 66 years, William Earl Scarbrough Sr.; daughter, Nancy Lowe
and husband, Michael; sons, Ray Scarbrough and wife, Martha Lou, Henry
Scarbrough and wife, Iva, Delius Scarbrough and wife, Etta, and Gene Scarbrough and
wife, Kathy, all of Clinton, J.D. Scarbrough and wife, Pat, of North Carolina,
Chuck Scarbrough and wife, Carol, Michael Scarbrough and wife, Robin, Roger
Scarbrough and wife, Diane, and Bobby, all of Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Lori
Scarbrough, of Georgia; six special children, Wanda, Johnny, Barbara, Diane,
Tommy and Frank; daughters-in-law Brenda and Maggie; 35 grandchildren; 66
great-grandchildren; and a several nieces and nephews. The funeral was Saturday,
Aug. 21, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with a
special nephew, Johnny McKamey, officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Cemetery in
Clinton.
Roger Dale Wells, 63, of Nashville and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Thursday,
Aug. 19, 2004, after a long illness. Mr. Wells loved life and never met a
stranger, according to his family. He was an avid golfer and a member of Oak Ridge
Country Club. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his
wife, Teresa Hammer Wells; children, Sheree Johnson, of Maynardville, Michael
Scott Wells, of Andersonville, Brian David Wells, of San Jose, Calif.; stepson,
Matthew G. Monday and wife, Hassie, of Clinton; grandchildren, Sarai Johnson,
Hannah Johnson, Kristyn Wells, Ashley Wells, Meagan Wells and Chelsea Armes;
a sister, Nancy Hall and husband, Marvin, of Elizabeth, Colo.; a brother,
Phillip Wells and wife, Nancy, of Macon, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. A
memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at
Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home in Knoxville. The family will receive friends
from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Grace McLin Ditchen, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.
Rosella Harris, 70, of Coalfield, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 at her home.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements, which were
incomplete at presstime.
Dorothy McNulty, 90, of Oak Ridge and formerly of Connecticut, died Sunday,
Aug. 22, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary in charge
of the local arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.
