Bobbie,
I believe this is the Thomas Riggs you are talking about but I have him in
1900 Claiborne County census born in Aug 1860 and married to a Barbara.
Then in 1910 Campbell County census, I found a Thomas that fits the age
range married to Nancy J. In both cases there are no children so if this is
the one that married Emma Chapman, where are the kids. I've looked at about
every Riggs family in TN in the 1900 and 1910 censuses and can't find any of
the kids that you have listed for Thomas and Emma.

Catharine RIGGS M Female 45 TN Keeping House
Thomas RIGGS S Male 21 TN Farmer
Mary RIGGS S Female 10 TN At Home
Nancy J. RIGGS S Female 6 TN At Home

I have four Thomas Riggs in my database but no Emma Chapman. The name does
seem to ring a bell. Do you have any dates for them.

Bob, I went back through my notes and facts. According to the death
certificate, Thomas Jefferson Riggs (also known as Tommy) was born Dec. 7,
1859 & died Aug. 29, 1946. I don't know when Emma was born, but from my
grandmother's (Mary Ann Riggs Ivey) own handwritten notes, she died on Nov.
29, 1898. (probably not long after her last child's birth) Also, I noted
that she spelled her mother's name Emaley, so it probably was Emily. But on
my grandmother's SS application, it said Emma Chapman as her mother's maiden
name. Thomas & Emma had 6 children that I know of:
Mary Ann b. Aug. 31, 1882
John M. b. Feb. 14, 1885
William Joseph b. April 11, 1887
Orpha b. May 31, 1891
Sarah E. b. Jan. 1894
Elizabeth b. Abt. 1898
I know that Elizabeth died when she was a small child, maybe around 1-2
years old. Thomas later remarried a Nancy Ivey in 1904.
Thomas was still living with his parents in 1880, so he & Emma probably
married between 1880-1882. I know nothing about Emma Chapman's family, so am
hoping for any info that anyone may have!
Thanks,
Bobbie
