BARTON, MR. GLENN H. - age 80, of Harriman,
COMPTON, MYRTLE FRANKLIN - 89, formerly of Kingsport
HICKS, HOWARD V. (PORKY) - age 87, of Lafollette,
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
BARTON, MR. GLENN H. - age 80, of Harriman, passed away Monday, March 29,
2004, at the Fort Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville. Born February 4, 1924
in Morgan County to the late Earl and Amy Garrett Barton, Mr. Barton served in
the Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was retired from
the Y-12 Plant and faithfully attended the Harriman Baptist Tabernacle for the
past 42 years. He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Ruth Barton; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Carol Barton of South Hadley, MA and Steve
and Virginia Barton of Oakdale; grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer Barton of
South Hadley, MA and Chris and Darren Barton of Oakdale; brother, Russell
Gunter of Wartburg; sisters, Beulah Miller of Blaine and Rhonda Barton of
Knoxville; very special friends and loved ones, Pastor James F. Jones, Jr., and wife
Sandra, Gloria Harvey Thomas, Rosie Harvey Nelson and Tammie Currier Harvey,
all of Harriman; and former Pastor Rev. Edward Parton and his wife Grace of
Pigeon Forge. A private graveside service will be held Thursday morning in the
Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood. Arrangements by Davis Funeral Home of
Harriman.

COMPTON, MYRTLE FRANKLIN - 89, formerly of Kingsport passed away at the home
of her daughter Sharon "Shay" Compton in Claxton, TN on Monday (March 29,
2004). Mrs. Compton was born in Scott County, Virginia on June 15, 1914. She was a
homemaker, wonderful mother, and committed Christian. She was a former member
of Lynn Garden Baptist Church and a present member of First Baptist Church in
Morristown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles I. Compton;
parents, O.A. and Callie Mae Franklin; and three brothers. She is survived by
three daughters and two sons-in-law; Louise (Lennis) Woods of Morristown, Carolyn
(Bill) McConnell of Knoxville, and Shay Compton of Claxton; son and
daughter-in-law, Norman (Martha) Compton of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren; eight
great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Moretz of Kingsport; brother, J.K. Franklin
of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express
their heartfelt thanks to Valeria Nemes and her family for their excellent
care for the last two years. Calling hours will be from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at
Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown Kingsport Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 3
p.m. in the Hamlett-Dobson Chapel with Dr. Fred Garmon and Rev. Archie Fendley.
Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Virginia. Active
pallbearers will be; John Compton, Chris McConnell, Scott McConnell, Lennis
Woods, Bill McConnell, and Norman Compton. Those desiring may make memorial
contributions to the; Myrtle Compton Memorial Fund, Heritage Fellowship, 121 N.
Illinois Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Funds will be used to purchase a mission

HICKS, HOWARD V. (PORKY) - age 87, of Lafollette, formerly of Mascot, passed
away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at St. Mary' Hospice. He was a member of the
Mascot United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge #738 and the
Local Shriners. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ezra Hicks and Alta
Marie Black Hicks; his wife, Vera Elizabeth Hicks; and sisters, Francis Bateman
and Elizabeth Hicks. He is survived by: 1 son, Howard V. Steve Hicks and wife
Anna May of Michigan; 2 daughters, Sherry Wade and husband Kenneth of
Knoxville and Ora Faye Faulkner and husband John C. of Lafollette; 5 grandchildren;
and 22 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Marsha Black of Clearsprings; a very
special Friend, Cathy Satterfield; and a very special thank you to Dr. David Wooten
and the Nursing staff at St. Mary's COU. The family will receive friends from
6pm till 8pm on Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Mascot United Methodist Church
with a Masonic service at 7:45pm and the Funeral Service at 8pm. Rev. Denny
Ford, Rev. Dave Henderson and Daniel Justice will officiate. Graveside services
will be conducted at 11am on Saturday at the Roseberry Cemetery. Family and
friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers the family
request that donations be made to the Mascot United Methodist Church in memory of
Howard Hicks. Serving as Pallbearers will be: John C. Faulkner, Elmer Brown,
Stevie Hicks, Jamie Smith, Ben Holt and Jeff Justice. McCarty Mortuary is in
charge of arrangements.
