Kelly J. Arthur, age 84 of LaFollette died March 19 at the St. Mary's of
Campbell County. He attended Charity Worship Center. Preceded in death by his
infant son, Ronnie; parents, Jesse and Mary Poore Grant; brother, Billy Grant. He
was a caring family father and served the CCC as a young man. Survivors
include his wife, Jessie T. Arthur; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and Alex
Wyatt, Cincinnati, Oh; grandchildren, Nancy and husband, James Huber, Mark Wyatt;
great-grandchildren, Joseph Dick, Brandon Huber and Sarah Huber; sister, Naomi
Grunder, Bull Head City, Az; nieces and nephews, David Arthur, Kelly Grunder,
Becky Ford and David Grant. Funeral services were March 21 at Cross Chapel
with the Rev. Leon Fritts officiating. Interment was in the Campbell Memorial
Gardens. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Steve Carroll, age 53 of Speedwell, died March 21 at St Mary's of Campbell
County. He loved fishing & riding bicycles. Preceded in death by his parents
Carl Daniel Carroll Sr. and Ruth Campbell Carroll. Survivors include his sisters,
Beverly Cunningham, Haverhill, Mass., Zella Carroll, Tazewell, Gail Hunter,
Speedwell, Vickie Fisher, Rochester, Minn; brother, Carl Daniel Carroll Jr.,
Pineville, Ky; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of
other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the staff of St Mary's of
Campbell County. Funeral services were March 23 at Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev.
Ralph Cordell officiating. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Julia Agee Card Crutchfield, age 75 of LaFollette died March 19 at Erlanger
Medical Center in Chattanooga. She was a retired teacher, member of the
LaFollette First Baptist Church and attended the LaFollette United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, James L. (Jim) Crutchfield; parents, Roy A.
and Elizabeth A. Card; brother, Jack M. Card.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Elizabeth (Marni) Crutchfield,
Caryville; son, James David Crutchfield; grandchildren, J.D. Crutchfield,
Maryville, Jennifer Crutchfield, Knoxville and Benjamin Louis Shirley, Caryville;
several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were March 22 at Walters
Chapel with the Rev. Danny Hensley officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn
Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Kenneth Lee Cureton, age 59, of Jellico, died March 19 in Newcomb.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Cureton, Jellico; daughters, Kendra Shupe
and husband, Michael, Williamsburg, Ky, Rhonda Terry, LaFollette, Amber Black,
LaFollette; grandson, Jacob Williamson, LaFollette; sisters, Mae Hooper,
Charleston, In, Irene Hatfield, Newcomb, Wanda Gail Gilbert, Newcomb; a host of
other relatives and friends. Funeral services were March 22 at the Church of Our
Lord with Rev. Damon Siler and Rev. Earl Powers officiating. Interment was in
the Douglas Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mitt J. Day, age 70 of Newcomb, died March 16 at Jellico Community Hospital.
Preceded in death by his father, Cade Day; mother, Lula(Byrd) Day;
grandfather, Mitt Day; grandmother, Julie Ann Day; grandfather, Nick Byrd; grandmother,
Stacy Byrd; brothers, William Day, Silas Day, Lester Day, Casto Day, Nick Day
and Sherman Day. Survivors include his daughters, Donna Creekmore, Newcomb,
Karen Hackler, Clinton, Deana Day, Clinton; brother, Herman Day, Wooldridge;
sisters, Delphia Newport, Norma, Emma Harness, Capital, Tn, Bessie Smith, Jellico;
Cora Sue Cantrell, Wooldridge; uncle, Lewis Byrd, Saxton, Ky; several nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were March 19
at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Durand Dixon officiating. Interment
was in Douglas Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ransom "R.C." Gross, age 74, of Rensselaer, In died March 18 at St. Anthony
Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 21, 1929 in Jacksboro to Sarah (Phillips)
and Hubert Gross. He was a resident of Rensselaer since 1970, he had also lived
in Hebron and Fair Oaks, In. He attended both the Colfax and Fair Oaks
schools. He was retired from U.S. Steel where he has been a pipe fitter for 30
years. As a youth he had worked at the Fair Oaks Farms. He was a member of the
Pentecostal Church of God. On Sept. 30, 1949, in Rensselaer he married Norma J.
"Dee Dee" Barnhart who preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 2001.Preceded in death
by his father, Hubert Gross; mother Sarah Phillips Gross; wife, Norma J.
Barnhart Gross; two sons; one brother. Survivors include his sons and
daughter-in-law, James L. and Rhonda Gross, Brook, In, Steve A. Gross, Rensselaer, In;
grandson, Chad and wife, Jenni Gross; sisters, Carrie Lane, Rensselaer, In, Lena
Ivey, LaFollette, Louise and husband, Eveston Risner, DeMotte, In, Lona Mae and
husband, Bruce Holt, New Tazewell; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services
were March 22 at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte with Brother James Pruitt
officiating. Interment was in the Fair Oaks Cemetery. Memorials may be made to
the family. Jackson Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Ulyss Hope Gross, age 85 of LaFollette, died March 18. He served as a deacon
and Sunday School Teacher for many years at Cedar Hill Baptist Church and as a
trustee at Bakers Forge Cemetery. He was currently a member of the Indiana
Avenue Baptist Church. An Army veteran of WWII, he served in India and Burma. He
retired as a Rural Letter Carrier.
Preceded in death by parents, James and Bessie Gross; brother, Newman Gross;
sister, Lottie Watkins. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Gross; daughters
and sons-in-law, Regina and Douglas Braden of LaFollette; Margaret and Carl King
of Riverview, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Pat Gross of Fort Walton
Beach, FL; sister, Louise Turney of LaFollette; nephew, Richard and wife Nancy
Turney of Memphis; grandchildren, Mark and wife Tonya Braden, Teresa and
Matthew Braden of LaFollette; Lindsey and wife Angie of Alabama; six
great-grandchildren, Alina, Jaimie, J.R., Jacob, Joshua, and Alie; special friends Neil and
Terry Crass; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were March
21 at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Partin officiating.
Interment was March 22 at Bakers Forge Cemetery with military honors by Campbell
County Honor Guard. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Jaames Frank Hensley, Sr., age 66 of Lancaster, formerly of Speedwell died
March 17 at Fairfield Medical Center. He had a six year battle with multiple
myeloma. He was retired after 37 years as a Process Engineer and specialized in
tempered glass with the Anchor Hocking Corporation. He was a member of the
First United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and a wild turkey hunter
and member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle
Association and the local Coon-hunters Association.He was preceded in death by his
parents, Carl and Stella Hensley. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby"
Hensley; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Adam Miller, Blacklick, Oh;
sons, James Hensley, Jr., Lancaster and Mike Hensley, Verona, Ky; sister, Betty
and husband, Eddie Kroeger; half-sister, Sue Hensley, both of Monroe, Mi;
brothers, Eugene and wife Sandra Hensley, Houston, Tx; William and wife, Sue
Hensley, Monroe, Mi; special aunts, Mossie Carroll, Monroe, Mi, Hester Russell,
Speedwell; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services
were March 22 at the Cawood United Methodist Church in Speedwell with Rev. Buddy
Butler officiating. Interment was in the Carr Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to the Cawood United Methodist Church. Reece Funeral Home
and Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Faye Orick Hoover, age 69, of Williamsburg, Ky died March 20 at Methodist
Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Preceded in death by her husband, Ordell Hoover,
Williamsburg, Ky; sister, Lavada, Celina, Oh; brothers, Jerry Orick, Celina, Oh,
Gene Orick, Celina, Oh, Dene Orick, Lima, Oh.
Survivors include her sons, Roger Hoover, Williamsburg, Ky, James Hoover,
Williamsburg, Ky, Rev. Johnny Hoover, Hillsburg, Oh, Emmitt Hoover, Jellico;
daughters, Dorothy Gibson, Jellico, Carolyn Springer, Hillsburg, Oh, Shelia
Flowers, Hillsburg, Oh, Janet Honeycutt, Jellico, Beverly Lawson, Jellico, Melinda
Satterfield, Williamsburg, Ky, Robin Mefford, Jellico; 34 grandchildren and 28
great-grandchildren; James and Clarence Norman are very special people who
kept her spirits up and smile on her face; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were March 24 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie
Jeffers, Rev. Johnny Hoover and Rev. Jerry Shelton officiating. Interment was
in the Jellico Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Arnold Clay Meredith, age 87, of LaFollette died March 19. He was a member of
First Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his family and church.
He was a lifetime farmer who loved to give others his harvest. Preceded in
death by his parents, Henry Clay and Cora Cooper Meredith; daughter, Judith Ann
Meredith; brothers, Raymond Woodrow, Clayton Meredith; sisters, Lorene Meredith
Myers, Colleen Meredith Myers, Margaret Bernice Meredith. Survivors include
his wife of 62 years, Bea Queener Meredith, LaFollette; son and
daughter-in-law, David Arnold and Wanda Meredith; daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Mike
Malicote, all of LaFollette; grandchildren, Meredith and Jacob Finstad,
LaFollette, Michael Clay Malicote and fiancé Amber Albertini, LaFollette, David Arnold
Meredith II, LaFollette and fiancé M.J. Parks, Clinton; great-grandchildren,
David Arnold Meredith III(Little Arnie), LaFollette, Bethany Forrest Meredith;
several nieces, nephews and host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were March 23 at First Independent Missionary Baptist Church
with Rev. Al Miller and Rev. Carl Edwards officiating. Interment was in the
Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers, Dennis Deavours, Jacob Finstad, Michael
Malicote, David Arnold (Arnie) Meredith II, David Arnold (Little Arnie) Meredith III

John Richardson, Jr., age 77 of Jacksboro died March 16 at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Aarena Silcox Richardson, sisters,
Etta Richardson and Clara Waters; brothers, Arthur Buford Richardson.
Survivors include his brother, Milford E. Richardson, Burlington Hgts. OH; sisters,
Charlene Ford, Jacksboro, Della Mae Byrd, Groveland, Fl, Elsie Waklee,
Cleveland, Oh, Ethel Douglas, Elk Valley; special nieces, Linda and Michelle Evans; a
host of other nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services were March 18 at
New Canaan Baptist Church in Elk Valley with Rev. James Adkins and Brother
Curtis Richardson officiating. Interment was in Warren Memorial Gardens. Martin

Sarah Frances Riggs, age 67, of LaFollette died March 18 at a private
residence. She was very active in Old Ivey Dale Church of God for several years. Her
children and grandchildren were very special to her. Preceded in death by her
grandson: Danny O'Neil Hill; parents, Dewey & Mossie Pierce Bolinger;
brothers, Lee, Howard, James, Roy, and Jackie Bolinger; sisters, Girdie Bolinger, Edna
Walker, and Alberta Bolton. Survivors include her husband, Henderson Riggs of
LaFollette; sons and special daughters-in-law, Mark Sr. and Elizabeth Riggs
and Joe Sr. and Marie Riggs all of LaFollette; daughters, Brenda Riggs and
Danny Marlow of LaFollette, Teresa and Phillip Bramblett of Clinton; 12
grandchildren, six great grandchildren; very special sister, Anna Bea Bailey of Pioneer;
special friend, Reva Baird; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were March 21 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. Junior Dilbeck and Rev. Jeff Bolton officiating. Interment was in
Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Ivey Dale
Church of God, care of Junior Dilbeck, 203 N. Indiana Ave, LaFollette. Martin

Rev. Paul Edward Slover, age 49 of Jacksboro died March 22 at his home. He
was a member of the New Canaan United Baptist Church. He was involved in
numerous youth activities including: Coaching Baseball, Jacksboro Little League
Football, Basketball and Cub Scouts. He was also a loving husband, father, brother
and son who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Preceded in
death by his brother, David Wayne Slover; grandparents, Welker and Edith Baker,
Edward and Ella Slover and Bessie Riggs Slover Rucker. Survivors include his
wife, Sharon Sexton Slover; children, Jennifer Lynn Glenn and husband, Andrew M.
of Knoxville, Jeffrey David and Brian Russell Slover; parents, Bill K. and
Louise Slover all of Jacksboro; sister, Donna Lynn Slover Day and husband, Joel
Lucas of Dione, KY; in-laws, Buford Sexton of Huntsville; and Sylvania Sexton
of Jacksboro; nieces and nephews, Amanda June Slover; Jacob Lucas Day; Kelsey
Rebecca Day and Darrell Slover; a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives
and friends. Funeral Services were March 24 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with Rev. Asbury Byrd officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Thursday
in Terry Creek Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's
Hospital in honor of Paul Slover. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Tab Wilhoit, age 45 of LaFollette died March 14 in Knoxville. He was born
November 13, 1958 in Highland Park, Mi. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved hot
rods, motorcycles and the great outdoors. Preceded in death by his parents,
John Thomas Wilhoit and Delora Fay Tucker; brothers, Greg and Kenny Wilhoit.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Etter Wilhoit; son, James Wilhoit,
LaFollette; sister, Pam McKinney, Strawberry Plains; step-father, Tavan Tucker, Sr;
step-sister, Dena Alvaraz; step-brother, Tavan Tucker, Jr.; father and
mother-in-law, James and Louise Etter; sister-in-law, Dora Blank; numerous nieces,
nephews and extended family and friends. Funeral services were March 20 at Reece
Valley Chapel with Rev. Floyd King officiating. Interment was in the Powell
Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were James Wilhoit, Scott Trowbridge, Stan
McClelland, Brandon Callebs, Robbie Kitts and Kenny Robertson. Reece Funeral Home
and Valley Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Dorman Woods, age 71, of LaFollette, died March 19 at the St. Mary's of
Campbell County Medical Center. He trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior on
March 10, 2004. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Preceded in death by his
parents: Benjamin Franklin and Iris Pearl Strunk Woods; sister: June Boshears.
Survivors include his sisters, Jean Whited of Caryville, Irene King of Oak Ridge;
nieces, Iris Jean Hicks, Mary Kathryn Johnson, Nancy Ellen Chadwell, Marcella
Reed, Alice Marie Asbury; nephew, Rev. Don Whited; several great nieces and
nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were Saturday
in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. J.T. Asbury
officiating. Interment was March 20 in Mt. Paran Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
