CARSON CARY JR. - age 69 of Maryville formerly of Clinton TN, passed away
Sunday, February 22, 2004. Visitation: 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
Memorial Service: 7:00 PM in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: In Erie,
TN. Hatmaker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

GEER, JERE W. - age 78 of Lenoir City, Tennessee passed away at his home,
Sunday February 22, 2004. Jere was born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee on November
8, 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS
Charles J. Kimmel (DE-584). He was retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after
38 years service. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Dibrell and Eula
Smith Geer; brothers, Albert and Clifford Geer. He is survived by: his wife of
53 years, Shirley Tuck Geer; sons Matthew Geer and wife Brenda King Geer and
Thomas Geer; grandchildren, Jordan Geer, twin granddaughters, Mattie and
Mackenzie Geer; sister, Ann Geer Kaplan of California. The family will receive
friends from 6-7:30 pm Tuesday at Hawkins Chapel in Lenoir City with funeral
service to follow at 7:30 pm with Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. Family and
friends will gather at Hawkins Chapel at 10:30 am Wednesday and proceed to the
Thompson Cemetery for 11:00 am graveside service and interment. Pallbearers:
Dwane Arthur, John Arthur, Terry Arthur, Jeff Laughlin, Gary Laughlin, John Tuck,
Keith Huskey and David Bowden. Hawkins Chapel Lenoir City is serving the
family of Jere W. Geer

MCCOWAN, HERBERT BRYAN "H.B" - age 57, passed away on Sunday, February 22,
2004 at his home at the Clinch Riverhouse in Lake City, TN & passed on to big
skies, rippling water & 16 inch browns, leaving us less one loving & devoted
husband, father, brother, grandfather, dedicated friend, counselor, teacher,
mentor, and one-man support system. Born in Corbin, KY, on September 11, 1946, &
reared in Oak Ridge, TN. H.B. was preceded in death by: his mother & father,
Jean & Herbert B. McCowan, Sr.: & brothers J.B. & Ross McCowan. He leaves his:
wife, Brenda McCowan of Lake City; children, Chase McCowan of Lake City, Erin
McCowan of Butler, TN, Heather McCowan of Seattle, WA; step children, John &
wife Beth Moore of Knoxville, Kevin Moore of Hollywood, Susanne & husband Matt
Fields of Knoxville; grandchildren, Spencer & Ashton Moore, Jacob Fields;
sisters, Joyce & husband Jim Herrell, Janie McCowan Overly & husband John; numerous
aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews; special friend, Corbin; special brother, Dr.
Bill Robinson; many other friends who have benefited from H.B.'s intellectual
energy, intensity, zeal, optimism, friendship, patience, encouragement,
generosity, wit & uniquely "turned" sense of humor. H.B.'s artistic talent led him
to a Bachelor of Fine Arts at East Tennessee State as a springboard to a
career and lifetime of drawing, painting, rendering, and graphics work, computer
graphics, as well as leading & administering programs as a Vice President at
SAIC & other companies providing engineering & design services to the private
sector & to the armed services, most recently serving as a Vice President for
Technical Services at GEM Technologies. He served two active-duty U.S. Army tours
in Europe, & was a major in the U.S. Army Reserves. He also used his talent
in designing & building furniture & craftsman woodwork & in architectural
design of homes & other structures. H.B. was an animal lover, an avid music, wine,
and cigar aficionado; an outdoor grillemaster culinary chef, a writer &
philosopher; & was widely acknowledged as a mentor and expert instructor to many of
the area's most accomplished "catch & release" fly fisherman. H.B. was founder
of the Silent One Brethren, a charter member of the East Tennessee Masters
Association, and conducted fly fishing instruction at the River House, assisted
by his wife, Brenda & son, Chase. The family expresses deep appreciation and
heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bill Robinson, other physicians & nursing staff at the
Cancer Care Center at Ft. Sanders Park West Hospital for their care &
dedication to H.B., & especially to his wife, Brenda for her steadfast caring for her
husband during his illness. As one of his dear friends said, "When it comes to
wealth, H.B. is the richest man I have ever known. His life has meant so much
to so many people, and so many of us will continue to cry and remember that
wonderful smile of happiness & encouragement he gave to everyone." The family
will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will be held 2:00 PM,
Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Garden followed by a celebratory wake immediately
afterward on Wednesday afternoon/evening at the home of Janie McCowan Overly &
husband John. As H.B. requested, a final memorial service with a scattering of
ashes will be held on the Clinch River at a later date by the family & members
of East Tennessee Masters Association. In lieu of flowers, the family has
requested contributions to the H.B. McCowan Memorial Fund, c/o, John Moore, 101
South Main Street, Suite 305C, Clinton, TN 37716. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in
Clinton in charge of all arrangements

RUPPEE, PAUL EUGENE - age 86 of Wartburg, died at 9 pm February 22, 2004 at
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Wartburg. Mr. Ruppee was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner,
and a member of Emerald Lodge #377. He was a World War II Veteran. Mr. Ruppee
served in the South Pacific and the Solomon Islands with the Anti-Aircraft
Artillery. He was a member of the American Legion and the Three Rivers Camping
Club. Mr. Ruppee was retired from General Motors- Fisher Body in Hamilton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Thelma Davis Ruppee; his
parents, Rudolph and Bertie Ruppee; brothers, Bob, Bill, Jack, Tom and Gene; sisters,
Martha Schubert and Margaret Ooten. He is survived by: his wife of nineteen
years, Mildred Williams Ruppee; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and George
Marcum of Spring City; step-son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Williams;
step-daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wendell Jones, all of Wartburg; brothers,
Ancil and Eugene; sister, Mineva; step-mother, Osie Dunn; seven grandchildren;
Twenty-three great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren; Six step-great grandchildren. The family will receive
friends Wednesday, February 25, 2004 from 6-8 pm at Schubert Funeral Home. The
Masonic Service and Funeral Service will begin at 8 pm with Bro. Tom Mooty and
Bro. Kerry Ruppee. A graveside service with military honors will be held on
Thursday, 11 am in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood.
