Annie Josie Clark, grandmother of local Oak Ridge residents, died Wednesday,
Jan. 7, 2004, following a brief illness at the Buchanan County Health Center
in Independence, Iowa. She was the grandmother of Curtis Miller and wife,
Donna; the great-grandmother of Andrew Miller and Natasha Wright and husband,
Edward; and the great-great-grandmother of Kyle Wright. Born March 12, 1908, in
Laporte, Minn., she was the daughter of Adolf and Agnes Pederson. While attending
LaPorte Minnesota High School, Mrs. Clark was active in the 4-H club. She was
the 4-H Minnesota State Champion Bread Baker and traveled to Chicago, Ill.,
to compete nationally. She traveled to Washington, D.C., as a 4-H Junior
Leader, where she met and had tea in the blue room with Lou Hoover. She remained
active as a 4-H adult leader while raising her children. Mrs. Clark attended
Walker Normal Teacher Training School and earned a teacher's certification. She
taught school in Benedict, Minn. She married Harold Andrew Clark on May 18,
1930. The couple owned and operated the Kabekona Valley Store, in Kabekona, Minn.,
until her husband died in January of 1965. She continued running the store
until her retirement in 1977. According to her family, Mrs. Clark remained very
active after her retirement traveling across the country visiting with her
children and grandchildren, baking, knitting, reading, taking care of them when
they were ill and blessing them with love and great hugs. Her family said she
will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Her
son-in-law, Thomas Leyendecker, and a grandson, also died earlier. In addition to her
grandchildren, Mrs. Clark is survived by five children, Maxine Leyendecker of
Independence, Dorothy Miller and husband, Robert, of Coos Bay, Ore., Haroldine
Miller and husband, Jack, of Nashville, Lyle Clark and wife, Kathy, of
Independence, and Almond Clark and wife, Shalyn, of Arlington, Texas; and by 12
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. A memorial
service will be Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the Kabekona Community Church. Burial
beside her husband will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Kabekona. The family
requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to The Annie J.
Clark Literacy Fund, LaPorte High School, LaPorte, Minn. Reiff Funeral Home and
Crematory in Independence is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Coker, 85, of Coalfield, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Lifecare
Center of Morgan County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold
Marion and JoAnn Elizabeth Coker. Mr. Coker is survived by his wife, Alene Coker;
his son, Roger Coker and wife, Gail, of Coalfield; two stepsons, Ronnie
Jackson and Sammy Jackson; his grandson, Lee Coker and fiancee, Amanda Logan; and by
two granddaughters, April West and husband, Allen, and Lee Ann Bedford and
husband, Wayne. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Derrick, Haley,
Victoria and Layne; a sister, June Wright and husband, Billy, of Harriman;
two brothers, Bob Coker and wife, Bonnie, of Crossville and Alvin Coker and
wife, Wanda, of Coalfield; and by several other family members and friends. The
funeral will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Schubert Funeral Home
in Wartburg with Don Daugherty officiating. A graveside service will be at 1
p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield The family will receive
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Arnold K. Craft, 89, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville from complications following an
automobile accident. He was born Jan. 1, 1915, in Lillydale. He and his wife
moved to Oak Ridge in 1947. Mr. Craft attended Beech Park Baptist Church in
Oliver Springs. His family said he was an avid fisherman and turkey hunter, and
enjoyed gardening and yard work. He retired from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant
which was managed by Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he was a painter. He
was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Ethelene Copeland Craft, on
March 22, 1995. Mr. Craft is survived by four children, Keith Craft and wife,
Janice, and Barbara Renfro and husband, Bart, all of Oak Ridge, Paul Craft and
wife, Jane, of Austell, Ga., and Garry Craft and wife, Kathy, of Knoxville; a
brother, J. E. Craft and wife, Louise, of Powell; and by seven grandchildren,
Lisa Adkins and husband, Charlie, of Knoxville, Michele Craft, Trevor Renfro
and Blake Renfro, all of Oak Ridge, Paula Renfro of Roanoke, Va., Matthew
Craft and fiancee, Mary Black, of Knoxville and Amber Belcher and husband, James,
of Lexington, Ky. He is also survived by a great-grandchild, James Adkins, of
Knoxville; and by special friend, Lady Phillips, of Oliver Springs. The
funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with
the Rev. Robbie Leach officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 25, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in
Clinton. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding, P.O. Box 22453, Knoxville, TN 37933
or to Beech Park Baptist Church, 519 W. Tri-County Blvd., Oliver Springs, TN
37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the
mortuary.

Sharon Gail Jones, 49, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born March 28, 1954, in Knox County, she was
the daughter of the Rev. Howard and Pauline Clevenger Hurst of Knoxville.
According to her family, Mrs. Jones dedicated her life to her heavenly father,
husband and two wonderful children. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church
and attended Faith Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her
grandparents. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Clint
Jones; her son, William Clint Jones, of Clinton; and by her daughter, Leslie
"Cookie" Nichole Jones, of Clinton. She is also survived by three brothers,
Danny Hurst and wife, Pat, of Knoxville, Dennis Hurst and wife, Linda, of
Louisville, and John Hurst and wife, Debra, of Clinton; two sisters, Diane Lynn and
husband, Mike, and Debra Smithy and husband, Ricky, all of Knoxville; seven
nieces and nephews; and by four grandnieces and grandnephews. The funeral will be
at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Faith Christian Church with the Rev.
Kenneth Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church
cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

Kosta Kostadin Kostadinov, 64, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. He
was born April 22, 1939, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was a former professional
hockey player, and was a master carpenter for 30 years. His family said above all
he was a father and grandfather. According to his family, Mr. Kostadinov
raised his daughter as a single father and loved his family fiercely. He was also
helping raise his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Nadedja and Kostadin Ivanov, and by his wife, Susan Elizabeth Kostadinov, who died
in 1990. Mr. Kostadinov is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Marie Anne
Rigdon, and by his grandson, Dylan Thomas Kostadinov and his granddaughter,
Charlotte Eliza Marie Rigdon, all of Oak Ridge. A memorial service in his honor will
be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Heritage Fellowship Church presented
by Lyle L. Swartzel. The family said blue jeans or other casual attire will be
appropriate for the service. The family requests that any memorials be in the
form of contributions to help with costs to The Kostadinov Fund, 285 East
Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Wayne Henry Kring, 54, of Harriman, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Roane
Medical Center in Harriman. Born Aug. 30, 1949, in Morgan County, he was the
son of Archie and Edith Humphrey Kring of Harriman. He was a member of Coal Hill
Baptist Church and was employed at the Revco warehouse in Knoxville before he
became disabled. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kring is survived by his
wife, Brenda Kring; two daughters, Lisa McKinney and Dana Walden and husband,
Tim; and his granddaughter, Savannah Walden, all of Harriman. He is also survived
by three brothers, Vaughn Humphrey and wife, Pat, of Harriman, Tom Kring of
Coal Hill community, and Hugh Kring and wife, Kimberlee, of Oliver Springs; two
sisters, Jane Harmon and husband, David, and Janice Coker and husband, Tim,
all of Harriman; three sisters-in-law, Louise Taylor and husband, Stanley, of
Harriman, Carol England of Sunbright, and Audrey Johnson and husband, Thurmon,
of Kingston; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and extended
family members. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in the chapel
of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Ronnie Brown and the
Rev. Robert Humphrey officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Jan. 24, at Coal Hill Cemetery, Coal Hill Road. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Morris Phillips, 83, of Norris, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Mariner
Health of Norris. Born April 20, 1920, in Inman, Va., he was the son of the Rev.
Charles Frank and Lillie Huff Phillips. He was a veteran of World War II and
served with the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific theater. Mr. Phillips came to
Oak Ridge in 1946 and began work as a guard with the Atomic Energy Commission.
He later worked as a construction electrician for Martin Marietta Energy
Systems and retired March 31, 1986 after 20 years of service. His hobby was being a
ham radio operator. In addition to his arents, he was preceded in death by
two sisters, Betty Miller and Grace Vaughn. Mr. Phillips is survived by his
former wife, Eula Faye Phillips of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, James Morris and wife,
Carolyn, of Oliver Springs; a daughter, Terri Coker of Lakeland, Fla.; and two
sisters, Nell Lee of Oak Ridge and Kathleen Donovan of Montgomery, Ala. He is
also survived by two grandchildren, James Matthew Phillips of Delaware, Ohio,
and Mandie Sponyoe of Frederick, Md.; five great-grandchildren, Drew Sponyoe,
Shelby Sponyoe, Doug Sponyoe and Nick Sponyoe, all of Frederick, and Sierra
Phillips of Maryland Heights, Mo.; and by several nieces and nephews. A private
graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Grandview Memorial
Garden in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 10 to noon Saturday at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

Dramia M. Smith, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was a longtime member of Glenwood Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert B. Smith Jr.;
her parents, Peter M. and Cora Mayes, of Newport; two brothers, Ben and
William; and by two sisters, Helen Shaver and Hattie Lewis. Mrs. Smith is survived
by a son, Robert B. Smith III and wife, Patricia Tanner Smith, of Lebanon, Mo.;
a daughter, Brenda S. Templeton and friend, Dwight L. Guy, of Franklin, N.C.;
and by grandson, Steven Tanner Smith and wife, Gail Mungle Smith, of
Springfield, Mo. Earmel and Hilda Bean, Gerald and Gloria Pierce and Tom Hutton of Oak
Ridge are considered very special friends and long-time caretakers. A
graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Union Cemetery in
Newport with the Rev. Earl Wilson officiating. The family requests that any
memorials be in the form of contributions to Glenwood Baptist Church Food
Cupboard, 200 South Alabama Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Weatherford Mortuary.

Alberta Nuss Stripling, 96, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at
NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born May 7, 1907, in Knoxville, she was the
daughter of Albert and Mary Crowder Nuss. She was a homemaker and a member of St.
Stephen's Episcopal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Col. Raymond Scarborough Stripling, on Jan. 27, 1985, and by
a son, Lawrence William Stripling. Mrs. Stripling is survived by a son,
Raymond A. Stripling, of Pittsboro, N.C. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, Jan.
24, 2004, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Craig M. Kallio
officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville. The
family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Charles Willoughby, 72, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Aug. 23, 1931, in Wallins Creek,
Ky., he was the son of Charlie H. and Myrtle M. Gunter Willoughby. He was a
veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Willoughby retired
from the Clinton School System, where he was a teacher at Clinton High School.
While there, he also served as the golf coach and the distributive education
coordinator. Before coming to Clinton High School, he also taught for many
years at LaFollette High School. He was a member of the Tennessee Teachers
Retirement Association and served on the Oak Ridge City Council in 1986 and 1987. He
was a Tennessee Colonel and a member of the American Legion No. 58 in
LaFollette. Mr. Willoughby was a licensed pilot and his family said he enjoyed flying
and playing golf. He was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by a brother, James Willoughby; his father-in-law, Elmer C. Lane
Sr.; and by a sister-in-law, Lorna Lane Oerther. Mr. Willoughby is survived by
his wife, Sandra K. Lane Willoughby; three daughters, Kim Boshears and husband,
Robert, Carol "Wendy" McNeely and husband, Terry, and Susan Wilson and
husband, Ronnie; and by four brothers, Tom Willoughby and wife, Sandy, Howard
Willoughby, Sam Willoughby and wife, Nancy, and Earl Willoughby and wife, Shelly.
He is also survived by two grandsons, Wyatt Earp McNeely and Russell Byrd;
five brothers-in-law, John Lane and wife, Jane, Thomas Lane, Elmer Lane, Derek
Lane and wife, Lynn, and Leo Lane and wife, Doris; sisters-in-law, Sr. Mary
Reginald, O.P., (Josephine Lane), Ruth Littlejohn and husband, Phillip, Una York,
Nona Lovell and husband, Staley; special friends, Fred and Jean Eiler, Jim
Greene, Howard Henegar and Glen Roberts; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr.
Willoughby was cremated. A private graveside service will be held at a later
date. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
the Willoughby Memorial Fund, c/o ORNL Federal Credit Union, 221 S. Rutgers Ave.
Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or any of their branches. Weatherford Mortuary is in
charge of arrangements.
