Luzell Lipscomb Slaughter, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003,
at Medical Center East in Birmingham, Ala.
Born Nov. 29, 1926, in Birmingham, she was the daughter of Grady Lee and
Delma Hubbert Lipscomb.
She was a homemaker and member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She was a former
member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 756.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl
Anthony Slaughter, on May 11, 1991.
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her daughter, Jodie Nazaroff and husband,
Michael, of Clovis, Calif., currently living in Kenya, Africa; her sister, Mozette
Laney, of Birmingham; her grandson, Christopher Michael Nazaroff, of Burbank,
Calif.; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with Jodie Slaughter Nazaroff officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the
Michael W. Nazaroff Ministries, , P.O. Box 413, Clovis, CA 93613, or 130
Lancaster Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Donations will be used toward the
establishment of a medical center in Africa.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the
mortuary.
Eunice E. Webster, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Paris G. and
Myrtle Hill Webster.
Ms. Webster was a librarian at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and retired in
1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where her family said
she was very active. She attended the University of Tennessee. Her family said
she enjoyed traveling, various sports, sewing and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren
R. Webster and Roy Eugene Webster, and by a sister, Dorothy Webster Muller.
Ms. Webster is survived by two sisters, Patricia Cunningham and husband,
Edward, of Mexia, Texas, and Ann Charamella and husband, Leigh, of East Lansing,
Mich.; four brothers, James G. Webster, William F. Webster and wife, Barbara,
and Ronald A. Webster and wife, Diane, all of Knoxville, and John K. Webster of
Hamilton, Ohio; and by several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in the chapel of Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating.
Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery on Route 1 in Oliver Springs.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home.
Friends may call at their convenience any time after 9 a.m. Friday at the
funeral home.
Bertha Marie Sampsel, 75, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at
Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
Born Aug. 2, 1928, in Harlan, Ky., she was the daughter of Isham and Minnie
Metcalf Noe.
She and her family moved to Tennessee in 1931. She has been a resident of the
area since that time. She was homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry
Sampsel; a sister, Ellen Butler; and by six brothers, E. C. Noe, Robert Noe,
Berrie Noe, Dewey Noe, Oscar Noe and Bill Noe.
Mrs. Sampsel is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Childs, of Clinton; three
sons, Stanley L. Sampsel and wife, Susan, of Oak Ridge, Gary E. Sampsel and
wife, Judith, and Dale H. Sampsel, all of Oliver Springs; seven grandchildren,
Tammy, Sherrie, Richard, Suzanne, Jamie, Kevin and Emily; four
great-grandchildren; a sister, Dora Gouge, of Oliver Springs; two brothers, David Noe and wife,
Ann, of Oliver Springs, and Jim Noe and wife, Cora, of Crossville; and by
several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Jerry Noe officiating.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Oliver Springs
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
Burnette M. Hegenderfer Nicol, 84, of Marysville, Ohio, died Tuesday, January
6, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
Born July 26, 1919, in Darby Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of Eric and
Eva Ruhl Hegenderfer.
A homemaker, she retired from the Scott Co. in 1982 as an office and
accounting clerk. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, where she
participated in the morning Bible study and was a member of Women of the ELCA. A
former, longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was involved in various
womens' activities and helped with food preparation for the church school.
>From 1938 to 1947, she worked at Nestles as a payroll clerk. According to her
family, she was known for her good cooking, especially Christmas cookies,
rhubarb pie, potato salad and deviled eggs. Her family said she loved to read and
travel.
She was baptized Aug. 10, 1919, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev.
Kuechle and was confirmed Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church
by the Rev. E.J. Goedeking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert
J. Nicol, in 1959; her first husband, Richard Elsbree, who was killed in
action in Okinawa, in 1945; an infant son, Herbert; four sisters, Florence Geer,
Tessa Parr, Elsie Van Hoose and Irene Hegenderfer; and by two brothers, Floyd
Hegenderfer and Gilbert Hegenderfer.
Mrs. Nicol is survived by a daughter, Dorothy L. Nicol, of Marysville; two
sons, Michael Nicol and wife, Diane, of Oak Ridge, and Daniel Nicol and wife,
Diane, of Louisville, Ohio; four granddaughters, Monica Nicol, Mandi Nicol,
Danielle Nicol and Carly Nicol; a brother-in-law, Kermit Nicol, of Marysville; and
by several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at First English
Lutheran Church in Marysville with the Rev. Carl A. Roepcke officiating.
Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville.

The Rev. Moultrie H. McIntosh, 70, of Lexington, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 6,
2004, in Lexington, Ky.
He was rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church from 1957 to 1967.
He is survived by three children, John M. McIntosh and David C. McIntosh,
both of Lexington, and Margaret E. McIntosh of Reno, Nev.; five grandchildren of
Lexington; and by his former wife, Helen Churchill Wigginton McClure, of
Lexington.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Christ Church
Cathedral in Lexington.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
Christ Church Cathedral Garden Fund, 166 Market St., Lexington, KY 40507.

Samuel W. Hester, 61, of Harriman, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at his home.
Born Aug. 11, 1942, in Harriman, he was the son of Otis Zirkle Hester and
Della Diane Love Hester, both now deceased.
He was a lifelong resident of Roane County. He was a truck driver employed by
Jeff Cobb Trucking. He previously worked at Clyde Wilson Trucking. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Girviel
Hester.
Mr. Hester is survived by his son, Terry Joe Hester, of Harriman; his
stepson, Michael Schuiten and wife, Cynthia, of Harriman; his granddaughter, Samantha
Sarah Hester; his stepgrandson, David Schuiten; a brother, Tommy Hester and
wife, Dorothy, of Georgia; and by three sisters, Wilma Jones of Roseville,
Mich., Mattie Stringfield of Harriman, and Mary Helen Becker of Michigan.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m.. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Poplar
Springs Cemetery in Kingston with the Rev. Randy Maxwell officiating.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements.
Joe Edward Coleman, 70, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, in Georgia.
He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Clinton for over 40 years and a
veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Martin Marietta at the Oak Ridge
Y-12 Plant with 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Coleman, and by his parents,
William and Pearl Evans Coleman.
Mr. Coleman is survived by two daughters, Jeanie Nowicki and husband, Greg,
of Dunwoody, Ga., and Debbie Christian and Darin of Kingsport; three
grandchildren, Heather Christian, Evan Nowicki and Kate Nowicki; three sisters, Helen
Kilpatrick of Phoenix, Ariz., and Betty Willoughby and Jean Page, both of
Durham, N.C.; his brother, Tom "Bud" Coleman of Hollywood, Fla.; and by several
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Don Jordan officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on
the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton with the Rev. Don Dunn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Barbara Deshona Brice-Brown, 29, of Maryland, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at
John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Evelyn Murrin, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Briarcliff
Health Care Center. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements,
which were incomplete at press time.
John Thomas Stevenson, 42, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at his
home. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete
at press time.
