BROWN, CORDELLA CARROLL - age 90, of Ligas Fork, Tenn., passed away Thursday,
December 25, 2003 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Halls, Tenn. She was
born July 5, 1913 in Anderson County, Tenn. She was a member of Grave Hill
Baptist Church for seventy seven years. She was preceded in death by her husband,
John Brown; daughters, Unavee, Pauline and Ina Lou Brown; sister, Winfrey
Lively and brother, Jimmy Carroll and Dewey Kennedy. Survivors: sons, Don H.
Brown, Knoxville, Jay & wife, Grace Brown, Walland; daughters, Alavene & husband,
Bob Templin, Lake City, with whom she had made her home, Angie & husband, Jim
Morales, Cross Jet, Va.; grandchildren, Larry Brown, Boyce Templin, Timmy
Byrge, Kasey Templin, Jimmy Byrge, Greg Templin, Cindy Sellers, Scott Templin,
Tammy Phillips, Brad Templin, Debby Bergeron, Amy Templin, Jason Byrge, Bethany
Brown, Jamey Byrge, Christ Stitt, Rick Stitt and Douglas Stitt; 29 great
grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Grave Hill Baptist Church with
Rev. Delbert Roberts, Rev. Brian Courtney and grandson, Jimmy Byrge
officiating. Interment to follow funeral at Gravehill Cemetery. Cordella will lie in
state from 1-2 p.m. prior to her funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorials
may be made to St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Halls, Tenn. Hatmaker Funeral
Home of Lake City, Tenn. in charge of arrangements.
BYRD, SAMUEL PERRY - age 82 of Oliver Springs, passed away December 26, 2003
at the Roane Medical Center at Harriman. Mr. Byrd was a World War II Veteran,
he entered the Navy in 1941. He served in the South Pacific where he was rated
as Pharmacist Mate First Class. He was honorable discharged in September of
1945. He worked for the United States Postal Service where he retired. He was
of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Dortha Owens Byrd of Oliver
Springs; one daughter, Barbara (Barbi) Cannon of Oliver Springs; one daughter
in law, Nancy Byrd of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Cindy Denise Byrd of Knoxville,
Perry Scott Cannon of Oliver Springs, Carey Beth Byrd of Oak Ridge; two great
grandsons, Samuel Scott Cannon of Oliver Springs and Jayden Kane Byrd of Oak
Ridge. Preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Dessie Jacks Byrd; sons,
Charles Perry Byrd, George Edger Byrd, James William (Buster) Byrd. Pallbearers
for Mr. Byrd's service will be, Gary Lively, David Owens, Lance Owens, Kelby
Rice, Andy Fadnek, Don Owens and Tom Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray
Tucker, Roy Tucker, J.W. Cross and John Cross. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m.
Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Oliver Springs Mortuary. Funeral service
will be at 8 p.m. Saturday December 27, 2003 in the chapel of the Oliver
Springs Mortuary with the Rev. Charlie Marlow officiating Interment will be at 2
p.m. Sunday December 28, 2003 at the Davis Cemetery in Oliver Springs. Oliver
Springs Mortuary will be handling the arrangements.
LAWSON, ARNOLD F. - age 84, of LaFollette, passed away Thursday, December 25,
2003 at U.T. Medical Center, Knoxville. He was a member of Midway Baptist
Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was retired from General
Motors after 32 years of employment. Preceded in death by parents, Albert and
Eva (Murphy) Lawson; brother, Randall Lawson and sister, Ann Wilson. He is
survived by wife of 58 years, Wanda Welch Lawson of LaFollette; daughter and
son-in-law, Gail (Lawson) and James Geeding of Dayton, Ohio; grandsons, Shay Allan
Geeding and Christian Michael Geeding; brother, Billy Lawson of Indiana and a
sister, Vada Sharp of Texas. The funeral service will be 8:00 p.m. Saturday,
December 27, at Cross Chapel, Rev. Bill Rains officiating. Interment will be
1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service. Cross Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.
LLEWELLYN, THELMA WILSON - age 87, of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away
December 25, 2003. She was the former Co-Owner of Llewellyn Furniture Company and
Funeral Home. Preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Smith Llewellyn; parents,
Elizabeth and Taylor Wilson; sisters, Christine Adkins and Elizabeth
Creekmore. Survivors: daughters, Joanne Watts, Phyllis and husband, Lenwood Lay, of
Jellico, TN; four grandchildren, Phillip Watts and Morgan Lay of Jellico, TN,
Lenwood, Jr. and wife, Rebecca Lay, of Elk Valley, TN, Karen and husband, Charles
Anders, of Corbin, KY; four great-grandchildren, Melissa and Justin Watts,
Joshua and Noah Lay; sister, Lillian Archer of Knoxville, TN; brothers, T.J.
Wilson and wife, Billie Jean, of Oak Ridge, TN, George Wilson and wife, Jennie,
of Clinton, TN; brother-in-law, Jerry R. Llewellyn and wife, Mary Ruth;
sister-in-law, Eleanor Llewellyn of Jellico, TN; brother-in-law, Harold Downey of
Winter Haven, Florida; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be
8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in
Jellico with her nephew, Rev. Mahan Archer officiating. The graveside service will
be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Jellico Cemetery. Pallbearers: Phillp Watts, Len Lay,
Morgan Lay, Chuck Anders, Justin Watts, Dick Creekmore, Jr. and Mike Ward.

SEARLE, ALICE JANE - age 77, of Clinton, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at
the Methodist Medical Center. Survived by: Sons, Robert C. Searle III and
wife Marie of Ft. Pope, LA, and John C. Searle of Clinton; Daughters, Sara G. Ray
and husband Bob of Fairland, IN, Alice Teresa Taylor, Cynthia L. Condra, and
M. Melissa Laymance and husband Richard, all of Clinton; Sister-in-
law,Barbara DeArmond of Knoxville; 13 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Funeral
services are Sunday, December 28, 2003 at 7:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary with
Joe Widner officiating. Graveside services on Monday at 11:00am at Greenwood
Cemetery in Knoxville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00-
