Dan John Nuhrah, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born June 20, 1921, in New Orleans, La., he was the son of George Nuhrah and
Marguerite Khoury Nuhrah.
Mr. Nuhrah attended Dartmouth College in Massachusetts for two years. He was
retired from Southern Railroad after 37 years of service, where he was a
general foreman, and he worked at Wal-Mart in Oak Ridge as a greeter. He attended
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and his family said he was very active in the
church.
He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Nuhrah was a 32 degree Mason. His family said
he wrote beautiful poetry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Arthur
Nuhrah.
Mr. Nuhrah is survived by his wife of 57 years, Esther T. Nuhrah; two
sisters, May Cazenave and Ramona Duhy, both of Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Yvonne
Nuhrah, of Florida; and by four daughters, Gail Trentham and husband, Ronnie, of
Louisiana, Patricia Singleton and Peggy Volk and husband, Lou, all of Oak
Ridge, and Jodi Majors and husband, Greg, of Lenoir City.
He is also survived by two aunts, Leonie Khoury and Elaine Khoury, both of
Louisiana; six grandchildren, Danny Shinn and wife, Sandy, Bobbie Smith and
husband, Nevada, J.J. Singletary, Jamie Tupper and husband, James, Aaron Volk and
Max Volk; three great-grandchildren, Harley, Lili and Savvy; and by several
nieces and nephews.
Shafik and Horia Iskander are considered special friends.
The funeral is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church with the Rev. Craig Kallio and the Rev. Claire Keene officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Burial will be at the Memorial Gardens at the church following the service.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St.
Stephen's Episcopal Church, 212 N. Tulane Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marguerite Lenora Spray Howell Doyle, 94, of Albuquerque, N.M., died
Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.
Born June 27, 1909, in Maquoketa, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jack Howell
and Chloe Alice Spray Howell.
Mrs. Doyle had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1937. She had been a
member of the Fruit Avenue Baptist Church and previously Riverside Baptist Church,
where she taught Sunday school classes for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James
P. Doyle.
Mrs. Doyle is survived by her sister, Cleora Beatrice Spray Howell Skov, of
Waterton; her son, John H. "Jack" Doyle and wife, Linda, of Oak Ridge; her
daughter, Diana Doyle McMahan and husband, Mick, of Albuquerque; five
grandchildren, Jacqueline Doyle Allison and husband, Mark, of Atlanta, Ga., Jeanette Doyle
Rodgers and husband, David, of Fairfax, Va., John Dunning Doyle of New York,
N.Y., William A. McMahan of Albuquerque and Maj. Melanie McMahan McPherson of
Homestead Air Force Base in Miami, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Mallory
Rodgers and Michael Rodgers, both of Fairfax, Va.; and by several nieces and
grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in the chapel of
Strong-Thorne Mortuary in Albuquerque with the Rev. Bernie Moraga
officiating.
Burial will be private at Fairview Park Cemetery in Albuquerque.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Ave, N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110 or
Assistance League of Albuquerque, 5211 Lomas Blvd., N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110.
Robert Avery Rollins Sr., 78, of Seattle, Wash., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003,
at Washington Soldiers Home and Colony in Orting, Wash., after a long battle
with heart disease.
Born Jan. 3, 1925, in Bellingham, Wash., he was the son of Jessie Lee Rollins
and Elgia Mae Stead.
Mr. Rollins served in the U.S. Army in World War II and Navy Reserves during
the Korean conflict. He was employed by Boeing, as a draftsman on several
projects involved with National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He was a
member of the Elks Lodge in Seattle. His family said he enjoyed fishing and
playing pool, and he called himself a shade tree mechanic.
Mr. Rollins is survived by his wife of 14 years, Bonnie Rosmith Rollins; four
daughters, Connie Thompson of Slidell, La., Caroline Swilley and husband,
Ted, Norma Kosko and husband, Gary, and Amy Dunkirk and husband, David, all of
Oak Ridge; his son, Robert Rollins Jr. and wife, Katherine, of Kenner, La.;
three stepchildren, Kay Hurd and husband, Jerry, Larry Rosmith and Everett
Rosmith, all living in the Seattle area; eight grandchildren, Tracy Rosmith, Jeremiah
Kosko, Marcus Ovino, Andrew Kosko, Bridget Moss, Rhiannon Hood, Ian Hood, and
Maureen Swilley; and by three great-grandchildren.
Blietz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements, which are
incomplete.
Ella Gray Guttery, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
