Hey John, sorry you have had so many problems. I do have DSL. As soon as I
got the DSL I downloaded the Norton Personal Firewall & Norton AntiVirus.
Both are a yearly subscription. You cannot have fast access w/o a firewall
or they will slaughter your computer. So far, they have been successful!
(knock on wood)
When I was having my problems with BellSouth, it was the line from Lake City
to somewhere on Longfield Road. They would repair it & for a few days it
would be fine. Then it would rain or the wind would blow, & I would be off
line again. Sometimes I would be off line for days or weeks. They would
patch the line & the problem would reoccur. This went on for months. In the
beginning I spoke with tech support until we were all exhausted. I would run
around my house unplugging phone jacks, used filters, the whole 9 yards.
I finally contacted a BellSouth representative, & he got the ball rolling &
they came & really repaired the line. It took them all day. (got my fingers
crossed) I was so angry, & told him they could either fix it or I would go
higher than him. He stated they were going to credit my account for two
months DSL service, because of the problems I had incurred. I told him "no
way", I would take a credit. (I should have) He stated he didn't understand,
why? I told him in no uncertain terms that I didn't want anything free. He
stated, he wanted to do it because of the time it took to find & repair the
problem. I told him absolutely NO WAY. I simply stated, if you give me a
credit this will go on forever. If I don't take the credit, you will be
forced to find the problem & hopefully they have? I told him I didn't want
nothing from BellSouth, but for my internet service to work. He was a little
taken back. He told the DSL specialist & the BellSouth repairmen to bring a
new modem. It's a Westell & I had an Alcatel before. They never come in my
house except to check my modem, which they stated was "fine". They further
stated the representative had instructed them to exchange the modem, even if
mine checked good. I guess he wanted me off his back! <g> So far, I haven't
been charged because they continue to monitor my line. The lines in my area
have big time problems. It wasn't my modem. I have been online now w/o
problems for almost 2 months.
I feel like you, I would not pay that bill! I would go wireless & get cable.
I understand it's suppose to be in our area by the last of the month. Check
with Comcast. I know how frustrated you must feel. I swear it about drove me
crazy. Good luck, Fay
