Clayton Lide, 80, longtime resident of Oliver Springs, formerly of
Darlington, S.C., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mr. Lide retired as a materials handler from the X-10 Plant. He was an active
member of Little Leaf Baptist Church in Oliver Springs, where he served the
church as chairman of the Trustee Board and was a member of the choir. He was
instrumental in overseeing the construction of the present Little Leaf Baptist
Church building and was active in the Knoxville District Baptist Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Lide and Pearl McPhail Lide,
and by three sisters, Dorothy Edwards, Eva Bull and Eliza Carolina.
Mr. Lide is survived by his wife, Catheline Griffin Lide; two sons, David
Fritts of Oliver Springs and Russell Fritts of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters,
Cherry Ivy and husband, Charles Ivey Jr., of Oak Ridge and Gloria Porch and
husband, James, of Tuskegee, Ala.; and by six grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by three sisters, Inez English of Darlington, Lessie Bell
Brown and Mildred Wilson, both of Florence, S.C.; three sisters-in-law,
Pauline Woods, Alma Fletcher and husband, Harold, and Alyce Griffin, all of Oliver
Springs; a brother-in-law, Bronce O. Griffin and wife, Barbara, of Oliver
Springs; and by several nieces, nephews and extended family members, including
Johnnie Frinks, a nephew, for his assistance to Mr. Lide in various activities
and events through the years.
The funeral was Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Little Leaf Baptist Church in
Oliver Springs with Thomas Dews officiating.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Faith Memorial
Gardens in Darlington.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Liz Fields, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Methodist Medical
Center of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of Bishopville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas W. Fields; her parents,
Martin and Martha Duncan; and by her son, William Vent Reynolds.
Mrs. Fields is survived by her daughter, Barbara Dixon and husband, Fred Jr.,
of Heiskell; four grandchildren, Fred Lee Dixon, Kathy Jett and husband,
Tony, and Jennifer Johnson and husband, Fredrick, all of Heiskell, and Billy
Reynolds and wife, Hilda, of Oak Ridge; and by six great-grandchildren, Matthew
Jett, Becky Jett, Courtney Smallwood, Casey Johnson, Candy Johnson, and Phillip
Johnson and wife, Nikki; and a great-great-grandson, Gabriel Johnson.
She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Reynolds of Halls Crossroads
in Knoxville; three sisters, Cory, Ellie and Loraine; and by several nieces
and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Bishopville
Cemetery.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.
Sara Elizabeth Haskins Chaney, 87, of Loudon, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Loudon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie J. Chaney.
Mrs. Chaney is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Chaney-Thompson and husband,
Lee, of Oak Ridge; a stepgranddaughter, Jeanne Mitchell and husband, Johnny,
of the Karnes community; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Polly White of
York, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Alma Farmer of Etowah; and a niece and nephew,
JoAnn Whillock of Knoxville and Bobby White of York, both who she considered
special.
A graveside service was to be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Loudon
County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Johnny
Mitchell, Don Bolton, Richard Whillock, Chris Whillock, Charlie Braswell and Perry
Purdy, will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
Continuum Court Yards of Oak Ridge, 209 Gum Hollow Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

Carl Arrowood, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Windwood
Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.
Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Swain County, N.C., he was the son of Louis Harrison
Arrowood and Grace Webb Arrowood, both now deceased.
Mr. Arrowood retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge
Y-12 Plant, where he was an outside machinist. He was a member of First Baptist
Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Enid
Campbell Arrowood, on June 1, 1994, and a grandson, Mike Patterson, in 1977.
Mr. Arrowood is survived by two sons, John E. Arrowood of Oak Ridge and
William H. Arrowood and wife, Bobbie, of Clinton; a daughter, Dorothy Cleveland and
husband, Dr. James Cleveland, of Loudon; a sister, Macel Cook of Pelion,
S.C.; and by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Weatherford
Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Larry Dipboye officiating.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Grandview
Cemetery in Clinton.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Frankie Mae Queener Jones, 96, of Coalfield, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Jones was the daughter of Henderson and Margaret Queener, both now
deceased. According to her family she was a loving mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother, and she was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66
years, Guy W. Jones Sr.; two sons, Guy W. Jones Jr. and Jerry Jones; a daughter,
Joyce W. Jones Cox; two infant children, Paul Gene Jones and Joanne Jones;
and by two brothers Jim Queener and Roy Queener.
Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Joe V. Jones and wife, Judy, of Rockwood;
five daughters, June Hudson and husband, James, Janice Hale and husband, Harry,
Jeanette Babb and husband, James, Judy Slack and husband, Charles, and Jackie
Maston and husband, Dwight, all of Coalfield; a son-in-law, Johnny C. Cox of
Coalfield; and by three daughters-in-law, Gladys Jones, Alma Jones and Peggy
Jones, all of Coalfield.
She is also survived by two sisters, Geraldine Hines of Coalfield and Jenny
Henderson of LaFollette; 16 grandchildren, Barry Jones, Mick Jones, Jerry Lee
Jones, John Cox, James G. Hudson, Jeffrey Cox, Paul Hudson, Bradley Jones,
Jamie B. Jones, Marty Maston, Andrew Maston, Melissa Newberry, Renee Davis,
Elizabeth Roberts, Cynthia Snow and Stacie Hickman; 19 great-grandchildren; and by
several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Estes Cemetery
in Coalfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ola Phillips, 89, of Wartburg, formerly of the New River community of
Anderson County, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center
in Knoxville.
Born June 15, 1914, in Stainesville, she was the daughter of the Rev. John B.
Phillips and Ida B. Ward Phillips, both now deceased. Mrs. Phillips remained
in the New River community until moving to Wartburg in 1998. She was a
homemaker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard
Phillips, and by two daughters, June Bunch and Mildred Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by two sons, Donnie Phillips and wife, Nellie, of
Briceville and Lonnie Phillips and wife, Gladys, of Wartburg; seven
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Goins of Briceville; and by
several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The funeral was Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home
in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Joey Cagley and the Rev. Lee Phillips
officiating.
A graveside service was to be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway.
Amanda Martin Reed, 86, of Clinton, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Lake
City Health Care Center.
Born May 18, 1917, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of John and Emily
Phillips Davis, both now deceased. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist
Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband,
Henry Lonas Martin; her second husband, Robert Mack Reed; a son, Rondal Gene
Martin; three stepdaughters, Carol Ann Earle, Maxine Hopwood and Mary Davis;
four brothers, Ramsom Davis, John Davis, Charles Davis and Rob Davis; and by two
sisters, Mary Jane Dagley and Sara Kennedy.
Mrs. Reed is survived by two sons, Don Martin and wife, Pam, and Johnny
Martin and wife, Opal, all of Clinton; and by 10 grandchildren, Russ Martin and
wife, Misty, Soundra Denise Novack and husband, Tommy, Robert Martin and Randy
Martin, all of Clinton, Brad Martin of Karns, Dean Edward Martin and wife,
Linda, of Campbell County, Ricky Joe Martin and wife, Vicky, of Oliver Springs,
Keith Edward Martin of Caryville and Rosemary Whitehead and Rhonda Daggett, both
of Indiana.
She is also survived by nine stepgrandchildren, Justin Weaver, Blake Weaver,
Shannon Earle, Mackenzie Earle and Albert Earle III, all of Clinton, Sandra
Guinn of Lenoir City, Gary Hopwood of Oak Ridge, Steve Keeton of Tyler, Texas,
and Wilma Poole of Coco, Fla; and by several great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews.
The funeral was Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Donnie Disney and the Rev. Tom Byrge
officiating.
Burial was Sunday, Sept. 14, at Pleasant View Cemetery.
John S. Bracken, 87, of Harriman, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Briarcliff
Health Care Center. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
Virgie Smith Kincaid, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Briarcliff Health
Care Center. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements,
which were incomplete at press time.
Marjorie E. King, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at NHC
HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, which
were incomplete at press time.
Walter S. Wendolkowski, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday Sept. 14, 2003, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
