Howard "Pap" Woody, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born in Spring Hill, he was the son of Maxie and Etta Woody of Spring Hill,
both now deceased.
Mr. Woody spent his early years working with the Civilian Conservation Corps
in Washington and at the Willow Run Munitions Plant in Ann Arbor, Mich., where
he met his wife. In 1975, he retired after 30 years with the Union Carbide
Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge K-25 site, where he worked as a plumber and
union steward. He was an active businessman as president of Woody Valley
Enterprises, where he developed Woody's Restaurant and Tri County Golf Course, and
dealt in raw land and rental property in Oak Ridge.
He was an active member of the Anderson County Democratic Party. According to
his family, he was an outgoing and friendly person with an imaginative sense
of humor, quick with a joke, and was happiest when with his family and
friends, fishing and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and
sisters, Robert S. Woody of Nashville, Fulton Woody of Greenville, his twin,
Herbert Woody, Billy Woody, James Woody, Amanda Eugenia Woody, Ruby Woody Bolton,
Carrie Woody Gray, Laura Mai Woody, and Pauline Woody, all of Oliver Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane Smith Woody; two sons, John
Howard Woody and wife, Geneva Collen Woody, and Michael Wayne Woody, all of Oak
Ridge; and by his daughter, Laura Jane Morris and husband, Bruce Morris, of
Anderson County.
He is also survived by a brother, Max Woody and wife, Sarah, of
Hendersonville; three grandsons, John Howard Woody Jr. and wife, Melissa, and their son Lee
Lamance and daughter, Vanesa Lamance, James Herbert Woody and wife, Donna,
and their daughter, Mercedes, all of Oak Ridge, and Brandon Williams and wife,
Kristy, of Sweetwater; and by a sister-in-law, Madge E. Smith and son, Charlie
Smith, of Lexington, Ky.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Weatherford
Mortuary.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park. John Howard Woody Jr., James Woody, Bruce Morris, Brandon Williams,
Charlie Smith and Max Woody Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

De Wilda Meyer Wilson, 78, a long time resident of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday,
Sept. 9, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Knoxville, she was the daughter of Harvey G. and Helen
Pankella Meyer, both now deceased.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a hospital corpsman.
According to her family, she enjoyed visiting heart patients at the hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 56 years, Hubert N. Wilson; two
sons, Harvey Wilson of Boulder Creek, Calif., and Paul Wilson and wife, Sheila,
of Seneca, S.C.; a daughter, Susan Wilson of Nashville; a granddaughter, Alicia
Najeeullah of Nashville; and by a brother-in-law, James C. Wilson and wife,
Ann, of Matthews, N.C.
A private funeral will be held with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating.
Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Mended
Hearts Inc. of Oak Ridge, P.O. Box 4965, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 or United Church,
Chapel on the Hill, 85 Kentucky Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

T.G. "Gordon" Godfrey Jr., 69, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Arrangements were incomplete at
press time.
