Lois M. Plzak, 88,
Spicey Daugherty Duncan, 88, of Oliver Springs,
Wilda Doris "Nanna" Grimes Summers, 86, of Oak Ridge,

Lois M. Plzak, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. Born March 17, 1915, in
Davenport, N.D., she was the daughter of Roy T. Amel and Iza Gunkel Amel, both
now deceased. Her father was in banking and as a child she moved with her family
to several western locations including Opheim, Mont., and Arthur, N.D.,
before settling in Alden, Minn., where she still has many friends. According to her
family, she had a terrific memory for events of the past, and told
fascinating stories of the early West and rural America. Mrs. Plzak attended St.
Catherine's college in St. Paul, Minn., and her family said she enjoyed reading and
doing needlepoint. Her husband was in the Air Force and her family said she
enjoyed his tour of duty in Washington, D.C., and their subsequent retirement in
Tucson, Ariz. According to her family, Mrs. Plzak loved nature, especially
birds, flowers, little dogs and gardening. Her family said she overcame several
severe medical conditions through the years, which impaired her physical
abilities, but her memory, mind and faith in God remained strong. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Plzak; a
brother, Earl Amel; a niece, Betty Ann Vogel. Her family said many of her friends
also died earlier. Mrs. Plzak is survived by her son, Jim Palmer and wife, Jane,
of Oak Ridge, with whom she was living; two granddaughters, Stephanie Jane
Palmer of Chicago, Ill., and Amy Iza Palmer of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Dee
Vogel and husband, Morris, of Golden Valley, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Lynette
Amel of Phoenix, Ariz.; and by four nephews Rob Vogel, Paul Vogel, Ron Amel,
and J. C. Amel, and their families. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m.
Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, Minn. Burial will
follow in Alden. A memorial service will be in Oak Ridge at a later date. The
family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Haiti
Medical Mission of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN
37830. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Spicey Daugherty Duncan, 88, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 3,
2003, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Duncan was the last charter member of
Big Mountain Baptist Church. According to her family, she was a faithful church
member, and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was
preceded in death by her parents, James and Ella Seiber Daugherty; her husband,
Owen Walter Duncan; two daughters, Louvena Duncan and Dellene Duncan Russell;
four sisters, Dovie Bunch, Dessie Hammonds, Leova Jones and Naomi Whitlow; and by
two brothers, Julian Daugherty and Elmer Daugherty. Mrs. Duncan is survived
by two sons, Owen Edward Duncan and wife, Marilyn, of Clinton, and the Rev.
Harold Duncan and wife, Anita, of Oliver Springs; five grandchildren, Cathy
Jones, Eddie Duncan, Becky Copeland, Sheila Maples and Patty Baldwin; 10
great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Allene Massengale of Clinton. Her family said she
will be remembered by many friends and loved ones. The funeral will be at 2
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Big Mountain Baptist Church in Oliver Springs
with the Rev. Don Ambrose and the Rev. Joey Cagley officiating. Burial will
follow at Lively Cemetery in Oliver Springs. The family will receive friends from
6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.

Wilda Doris "Nanna" Grimes Summers, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept.
3, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Aug. 25, 1917, in
Morgantown, W.Va., she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Grimes, both now
deceased. Mrs. Summers was a member of First United Methodist Church. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Col. Robert Summers
and wife, Dianne; a grandson, Scott Summers; a great-grandson, Isaac Boyle;
and by two brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Summers is survived by a daughter,
Joanne Boyle and husband, William, of Oak Ridge; five grandchildren, Deborah
Young, Robert Boyle, Julie Summers, Susan Summers and Elizabeth Asnip; five
great-grandchildren, Zachary Young, Kelsey Young, Emma Boyle, Josiah Boyle and
Malachi Boyle; and by a sister Juanita Watson of Alabama. The funeral will be at
11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will
be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in
Morgantown. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of donations to
First United Methodist Church, Memorial Garden Fund, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike,
Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday
at the church. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City is in charge of
arrangements.
