Martha Josephine Evans, 78, of Oak Ridge,
Clyde Maxwell "Max" Jackson, 84, of Harriman,

Martha Josephine Evans, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at
Morning Point Assisted Living in Clinton.
Born July 16, 1924, in Doyle, she was the daughter of Leslie and Willie
Haston Felton, both now deceased.
She retired in 1981 from the Department of Energy where she worked as a
secretary. She was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ and enjoyed
going to the Oak Ridge Playhouse. Her family said she also loved to travel and
had visited places all around the world.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard
A. Evans Jr., on May 10, 1991.
Mrs. Evans is survived by two stepsons, Rick Evans and wife, Patti, and Steve
Evans and wife, Lou, all of Oak Ridge; a brother, Bobby Felton and wife, Mary
Ann, and their son, Victor Felton and his wife, Debbie, and their son,
Dallas, all of Winchester; 10 step-children, Don Evans and wife, Kim, of Oahu,
Hawaii, Jill Evans, Pam Evans, Emily Evans White, Stacy Evans, Shelly Evans,
Lindsay Walker and Drew Walker, all of Oak Ridge, Nicole Thomas and husband, Eric,
of Dumfries, Va. and Joy Goins and husband, James, of Knoxville; and by several
step-grandchildren.
She considered Chris Oliphant and Emma Boyd and her children, Janet and
Karen, all of Oak Ridge, as best friends.
The funeral will be at noon Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary
with Milton Stanley officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial
Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to New
York Avenue Church of Christ, 219 New York Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the
funeral home.
Clyde Maxwell "Max" Jackson, 84, of Harriman, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at
Harriman Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born March 12, 1919, in the Back Valley Community of Coalfield, he was the
son of John Columbus and Susan Jones Jackson, both now deceased.
He resided in Roane County for most of his life and during the last four
years he was a resident of Harriman Health and Rehabilitation Center. The family
said he enjoyed all of the activities at the facility and loved to visit with
his friends. One of his favorite activities was listening to Tommy Hardin sing
to the residents, the family said.
Mr. Jackson was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. He was at
the invasion of Normandy and then served in the European theater in France
and Germany. He was awarded the Silver Star with a bronze arrowhead for
gallantry in action.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C.
Jackson; a sister, Pauline Jackson; and by a niece Emma Whaley.
Mr. Jackson is survived by a daughter, Brenda Stringer and husband, Mark, of
Midtown; a son, Brad Jackson and wife, Susie, of Madisonville; a
granddaughter, Katie Stringer of Midtown; a stepdaughter, Ann Lay of Totz, Ky.; and by a
sister, Lois Mahoney of Oliver Springs.
He is also survived by two nieces, Caroline and husband, Julian, and Judy and
husband, Lynn; a nephew, Howard Mahoney and wife, Carol, of Georgia; and by
13 grandnieces and grandnephews, Katherine Whaley, Tim Duncan, Glenda Cloutier,
Dan Cloutier, Paulette Higgenbottom, John Higgenbottom, Mark Stein, Jim
Stein, Joan Stein, Jay Stein, Jen Stein, Howard Mahoney Jr. and Debra Mahoney.
He considered nephew-in-law, Leo Whaley of Oliver Springs, and Joseph Kata,
his roommate at the rehabilitation center, as special friends.
A graveside service was Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Jackson Cemetery in
Coalfield with the Rev. Michael M. Miller officiating.
Sharp Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
