I have been asked to post anything I have on LOWERY, so here is some more.
>From The Land of the Lake, by Dr. G. L. Ridenour
In 1761, Edward Wallace, Elisha Wallen, Thomas Cox, Henry Skaggs, Richard
Skaggs, James Skaggs, Edward Newman, Hiram Blevins, Hardy Skipper, John
Lowery, John Harmon, Shadrach White, Price Wilson and others spent several
months hunting along Powell's and Clinch Rivers. This party had a hunting
camp at the Dipping Spring just above the fork of the rivers.

Speaking of the Clinch River.....Ever wonder why they call it the Clinch
River? Some of you already know this story but I will tell the others that
don't.

Some of the hunters were shooting buffalo near where Andersonville is now
located. After a heavy rain these hunters had to cross the river on an
improvised raft. In some way Hardy Skipper was knocked from the raft into
the swift current. As he was swept toward the northern bank, he yelled,
"Clinch me! Clinch me!"
His rescue was effected and he returned many years after to become on of the
pioneers of Campbell County.

The road from Sugar Jones's on Clinch River, then crossing Powell's River at
Isaac Bledsoe's and on to Col. Robert Glenn's was one of the most important
thoroughfares in the county. It had the following hands assigned for its
upkeep: Jesse Agee, George Handcock, Jo Thomas, Martin Griffey, Benjamin
Dagley, John Bledsoe, William Griffey, Joe Sharp, James Moad, John Sharp,
Thomas Baker, Bolen Baker, James Glenn, William Hancock, William Sweat, John
Crage, Gross Lamb, Henry Brim, Robert B. Lowry, Elijah Longmire, James Smith,
Benjamin Bratcher, Joe Brim, Pirrin Right, John Stanley, Ali Smith, Jr.,
John W. Flemming, John Bledsoe, Wilson Musgrove, Joseph Garland, Soloman
Mason, William Mason, Francis Irwin, William Loy, Thomas Nations, William
Brown, Shugar Jones, James Baker, George Gossage, William Baker, William
Bratcher, Jacob Whitman, Charles Hopper, Barnabas Alder, Benjamin Swet,
Nathan Swet, Galliman Garland, John Stephens, John Arthy (Arthur), James
Agee, William Heatherly, Jess Charris, William Lay, Absolom Ivy, Daniel Ivy,
James Ivy, James Brown and William Pettet.
