Harness Ex-deputy Miner,Dies

Goldman Harness,86,of Laurel Grove community,Briceville Rt.1.,died Saturday morning at his home
of complications of age.He was a retired coal miner with several local firms,and he worked as an
auxilliary deputy under Sheriff Francis Moore many years ago.Harness was a member of Laurel
Grove Baptist Church.A native of Briceville area,he was the son of the late Joe and Amanda Harness.
Survivors include two sisters,Miss.Geneva Harness,with whom he lived,and Mrs.Johnny(Lottie)Harness
of Briceville Rt.1.Funeral services were held Monday at Laurel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev.Henry Duncan
and the Rev.Loas Dison officiating.Burial was in church cemetery.

Ex-Rubber Firm Worker Dies at 72

Mrs.Viola Phillips Patterson,72,of Old U.S.Highway 25W Clinton Rt.2,died Monday at Lake City Hospital
of a heart attack.She was a retired employe of U.S. Rubber Co.of Ft.Wayne Ind. and the Elks Lodge Lodge there.
Mrs.Patterson was a member of Grave Hill Baptist Church.Her Husband,Lewis Patterson,died about three years ago.
Survivors include,two brothers,Lonas Phillips of Oliver Springs and Lewis(Stokes)Phillips of Briceville,Rt.1.,four sisters,
Mrs.Irona Atkins of Clinton,Mrs.Edna Pisula,Mrs.Ann Cook and Mrs.Evelyn Buckles of Ft.Wayne.
Funeral services are to be held at 2p.m.Thursday(today)at Grave Hill Baptist Church with the Rev.Dan Daugherty and
the Rev.Edwin Phillips officiating.Burial is to be in Phillips Cemetery.

Mrs.Brown Oldest Church Member,Dies

The oldest member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church,Mrs.Hester Patterson Brown,93,died Tuesday at
Lake City Health Care Center.Her home had been on Briceville Rt.1.between Laurel Grove and
Briceville.Mr.Brown was born and reared in Anderson County.She was the widow of a coal miner,
Allen Brown,who died in 1937.She made quilts and raised beautiful flowers in her active years.
Several years ago,Laurel Grove Baptist Church presented her a plaque designating her as its oldest member.
Funeral services are to be held at 2p.m.Thursday(today)at Cox Funeral Home chapel,Lake City,with the Rev.Frank Collett
and the Rev.Roy Patterson officiating.Burial is to be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
Mrs.Brown leaves a son,Charles Brown of Rockwood,four daughters,Mrs.William(Edna)Sims of Knoxville,
Mrs.M.H.(Geneva)Campbell of Oliver Springs,Mrs.George(Janieve)Moxley of Peria,IL.and Mrs.Evelyn Nash of Knoxville,
28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren,and two sisters,Mrs.Almeda Byrge of Kingston,
and Mrs.Mascel Phillips of Oliver Springs.
