Smith, Truman-Was born March 18, 1904, deceased this life December 10, 1964,
after a long illness, in the Jellico Hospital. Brother Truman was 60 ears, 8
months and 8 days old. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Lower
Capuchine Baptist Church in September, 1923, later moved his letter to the
Lick Fork Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon by the Church and
served as a Deacon for about 25 years. He remained as a Deacon and a
faithful member until death. He was the Choir leader for the singing choir
of the church for 25 years. He was a great singer and loved to sing. He was
married to Anna Jane Bausull October 15, 1921 and to this union was born 12
children, 4 deceased, 8 still living. Six daughters, Hazel Shears of Elk
Valley, Tennessee, Ruth Lane of Hollywood, Florida, Ruby Fredrick of Toledo,
Ohio, Christine Ford of lake City, Tennessee, Irene Lamb of Newcomb, Lorene
Smith of Newcomb, Tennessee; 2 sons, Curtis Smith of Newcomb, Tennessee and
Truman Smith, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and one great
grandchild; 3 sisters, Nellie Owens of Elk Valey, Nettie Owens of Elk Valley
and Stella Braden of Cincinnati, Ohio; 1 brother, Frank of Duff, Tennessee
and many relatives and friends to mourn his passing, but we all feel our loss
is his gain in Heaven.
Byrd, Alex-Was born August 2, 1881, deceased July 2, 1965 at the age of 83
years, 11 months. He joined the church December 19- . Survivors are:
wife, Mrs. Rinda Byrd; 7 sons, Howard of LaFollette, Everett, Floyd and
Delmus of Pioneer, Costo and Leo of Jacksboro, Leon of Elk Valley; 1
daughter, Mrs. Marie Allred of Jacksboro; 1 brother, John Thomas Byrd of
Huntsville; 2 sisters, Isabelle Byrd of Pioneer and Rhoda Byrd of Robbins; 3
half-sisters, Ollie Cross of Huntsville, Edna Chambers of Pioneer, and Sena
Acres of Oneida; 29 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and a host of
relatives and friends to mourn his absence, and he prayed many prayers that
they all meet him in Heaven.
Abbott, Mrs. Cinda-Was born January 26, 1889, departed this life August 21,
1967 at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 25 days. She was the daughter of
the late Starling and Amanda Long Stanfill. She joined the Pine Hill Baptist
Church in 1928 and lived faithful throughout her life. Surviving are
Husband, Jeff Abbott; six daughters, Mrs. Nancy Murdock, Houston, Texas, Mrs.
Betty Morgan, Jellico, Tenn., Mrs. Parley Lee Wynn, Lexington, Ky., Mrs.
Dorthy Ernest, Reka, Cal., Mrs. Goldie Stanley, Oneida, Tenn., Mrs. Delphia
Tye, Cleveland, Ohio; one Son, James W. Abbott, Cleveland, Ohio; four
Brothers, Jim Stanfill, Jellico, Tenn., John Frank Stanfill, Williamsburg,
Ky., Hirman Stanfill, Holly Hill, Ky.., Ernest Stanfill, Pine Knot, Ky. and a
host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Botts, Alma Pearl (Long)-Born April 21, 1940, died May 27, 1967. She was 27
years, 1 month, 6 days. She was married to Ezra Botts Sept. 5, 1959 and to
this union was born one Daughter Pamela Botts. She professed a hope in
Christ and was baptized to the Elk Fork Baptist Church early in life. Lived
faithful Christian and a member to the church until death. She leaves to
mourn her absence Father and Mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Long; seven Brothers
and one Sister, Goldie Teldman of Cincinnati, Ohio. Brothers, Francis,
Oscar, William, Leonard, Loyd, Robert and Edgar and her Husband, Ezra Botts
and daughter, Pam. Many friends and relatives to her passing, but our loss
is Heaven's gain.
Lane, James Harvey-Born March 13, 1896, deceased this life September 29, 1967
at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 16 days. He was married to Edna
(Chambers) Layne March 30, 1919 and to this Union was born 8 children.
Thomas and Freeman Layne and an infant Daughter preceded him in death. He
leaves his wife Edna Layne; Sons Jack and Robert Lee Layne of Oneida;
Daughters Bonnita Laxton, Freeda Sexton and Eula Jean Layne all of Oneida; 13
Grandchildren; Brothers Johnnie and V. T. Layne; 1 Sister Mary Layne all of
Cincinnati, Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends. He professed a
hope in Christ and joined the Elk Fork Baptist Church in Elk Valley, Tenn.
Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.
Bridges, John-Was born August 29, 1876. He departed from this life Dec. 20,
1966, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, 20 days. He professed a hope in
Christ at an early age, and joined the Copershone Baptist Church and later
Lick Fork Baptist Church, where he remained faithful until his death. He was
joined in Holy Matrimony to Mollie Sexton Oct. 18, 1897. To this union was
born 12 Children, 7 Boys and 5 Girls. His wife, 2 Sons, 1 Daughter
proceeded him in death. He later Married Delby Sexton. To this union was
born 3 Sons. He leaves to mourn his passing wife, Delby Bridges, Elk Valley;
Sons Noah of Cincinnati, Ohio, O.D. Oneida, L. C., Dayton, Ohio, Edger,
Willie John, Charles and Billie of Elk Valley, Tenn.; Daughters, Ms. Effie
Ellis, Oneida, Mrs. Eva Blakley, Newcomb, Tenn., Mrs. Susie Hyder, Allard,
Tenn., Mrs. Edith Stephens, Robbins, Tenn; Brothers, Dennie Arabia, of Elk
Valley, L.C. of Jamestown, Tenn., Carley Bridges, Oneida; Sister, Mrs. Nannie
Chitwood, Knoxville, Tenn.; 58 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great
Great Grandchild; a great host of friends and loved ones. We feel our loss
on earth is his gain in Heaven.
Sharp, Mary Belle Perkins-Was born June 8, 1902, departed this life January
20, 1967 at Cincinnati, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Thomas Sharp in
1920. To this union were born 11 Children of which 4 Children and the
Husband preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing 6 sons,
Verlin, Chester, Kenneth, Harold, Boone and McArthur and One Daughter, Clara
Noel, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; four Brothers, Luther and Alonzo, both of
Cincinnati, Ohio, Fred of Toledo, Ohio, Homer of Newcomb, Tenn.; four
Sisters, Martha Cross of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeanetta Baird of Elk Valley,
Tenn., Hattie Lay of Dallas, Texas, Elsie Merdith of Clinton, Tenn. She
joined the Little Elk Baptist Church in May, 1916 and lived a faithful
Christian life. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
Perkins, Kelsie-Was born July 18, 1900 and departed this life May 28, 1967 at
Baltimore, Md. He was united in marriage to Martha Hall in 1918. To this
union were born 9 Children of which one preceeded him in death. He leaves to
mourn his passing, Wife Martha Hall Perkins; 4 Sons, Charles, James, Jennings
and Floyd, all of Baltimore, Md. and 4 Daughters, Frances, Ludie, Elanore and
Shelby Jean all of Baltimore, Md.; 4 Brothers, Luther, Alonzo of Cincinnati,
Ohio, Fred of Toledo, Ohio, Homer of Newcomb, Tenn.; 4 Sisters, Martha Cross
of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeanetta Barid of Elk Valley, Tenn., Hattie Lay of
Dallas, Texas and Elsie Meredith of Clinton, Tenn. He joined the Little Elk
Baptist Church in May 1916. We feel our loss is Heaven's gain.
Baird, James-Was born March 14, 1908 and died May 19, 1968. Survivors are
two sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Bolin of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Anna Chambers
of Blairsville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends to
mourn his passing. He professed a hope in Christ in 1935 and joined the Elk
Fork Baptist Church, where he was a member until death.
Brooks, Lewis-Was born Nov. 4, 1884, died March 12, 1968. He professed a
hope in Christ about 36 years ago and joined the little Elk Baptist Church,
later joined the Elk Fork Baptist Church by letter. Survivors are four sons,
William Perry Brooks of Newcomb, Tenn.; George Brooks of Pontiac, Michigan;
Marion Brooks of Tampa, Fla., and Alonza Brooks of Woodbine, Ky.; two
daughters, Mrs. Nannie Lay of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Annie Carson of
Oneida, Tenn.; one brother, Perry Brooks of Elk Valley, Tenn.; 32
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
