Tragedy In Tenth
Barton Shoots Fisher Dougherty His Cousin At Rosedale
Barton Dougherty,25 years, is in jail charged with shooting his cousin Fisher Dougherty,
age 23 years,Tuesday night about 11 o'clock at Rosedale,in the Tenth district of Anderson County.
The men were drinking and returning from a show at Oneida.As the train reached the Rosedale
depot Barton accused Fisher of hiding his hat and the shooting followed. Fisher was shot three
times with an automatic and dangerously wounded. He was taken to a Knoxville hospital.
This makes the third tragedy in the past few weeks in this district caused by whisky.Both men
are single,and a large relationship in the district.

William Eli Phillips,54,died at his home in Stainville,Jan 26.He was a member of Grave Hill Baptist Church. Survivor are wife Annie Jones Phillips,three daughters,Mrs.Virgil Seiber of Charley's Branch.Mrs.Daffia Seiber of Stainville,Mrs.Margaret Jones of Detroit,three sons ,Early of Lexington Ky.Lonzie of Harlan,Ky and Fred of Oliver Springs. Funeral services were held Saturday,Jan 29 at the Grave Hill Baptist Church at Stainville with Rev.O.S.Duggar and the Rev.Lee Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery.Schubert of Wartburg had charge.

Mrs.Phillips Dies,Native Of Stainville.
Mrs.Annie J.Phillips,69,of Oliver Springs Rt.1.died Friday at 11:25a.m.
in Oak Ridge Hospital.She was the widow of a coal miner,William Phillips,
and formerly lived in the Stainville community of North Anderson County.
Services were held Monday afternoon at Grave Hill Baptist Church near
Stainville with the Rev.Edmund Phillips and the Rev.Carvin Phillips officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.She was a member of that church.
Mrs.Phillips leaves three daughtersmMrs.Mary Seiber of Devonia,Mrs.Monroe Seiber Oliver Springs,and Mrs.Margaret Jones of Wartburg,three sons,Early Phillips of Clinton,Lonzie Phillips of Oliver Springs,and Fred Phillips of Middletown

Phillips,78,Once Logger Dies In Yard.
George Phillips,78,a retired logger,died of a heart attack Tuesday
in the front yard of his home on Lake City Highway at Clinton Rt.2.
A grandson found the body.Phillips was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
His late wife was Nancy Jane Phillips.Services will be at 2p.m.Thursday at
Rock Hill Baptist Church at New River and burial will be in the Tom Phillips
Cemetery at Stainville.The body is at the home of a daughter,Mrs.Ruthie Nolan,
Lake City Highway.Phillips alson leaves another daughter,Mrs.Leona Patterson
also of Clinton Rt.2.a son,Melton Phillips of Briceville Rt.1.and 24 grandchildren
and 30 great- grandchildren.
