ANTHONY, TERRENCE - age 33 of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foothills
Funeral Home, Maryville.
FORTENBERRY, GOLDIE CROSS - 83, formerly of Oneida, passed away September 20,
2002 at Asbury Acres. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church. She
attended East Tennessee State in Johnson City majoring in Music. She taught
music in both the elementary and high school in Oneida. She also gave private
lessons in organ, piano and voice in her home. She played the organ & piano
at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Oneida for several years. She retired from the
Baptist Hospital. Before her illness, she enjoyed growing flowers and crafts.
She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Survivors are: husband, Joseph H.
Fortenberry; daughters, Brenda Shelton & Martha Cross; sisters, Nora Weaver,
Rosalee Coffey & Violet Marcum; step daughters, Mary Ellen Acuff & Debbie
Kuchel; stepson, Joseph W. Fortenberry; 8 grandchildren; 6 great
grandchildren. A special thanks to friends, Frankie & Larry Day & all the
staff at Asbury Acres on One-South for the special care they gave Goldie
during her final days. The family will receive friends Tuesday September 24,
2002 from 1-2 p.m. with funeral to follow at 2 p.m. at Highland South Park,
Funerals and Cremations on Chapman Hwy. with Rev. Larry Day officiating.
Interment will follow immediately in Highland Memorial Gardens South.
GARRISON, EDNA BRANCH 'MICKIE' - age 85, of Oak Ridge died Sat., September
21, 2002 at Roane Medical Center in Harriman. Member of Robertsville Baptist
Church. Preceded in death by husband, Merle L. Garrison 2-24-1985. Survived
by: daughters, Shirley Frykman of Oak Ridge and Beverly Stanford of Claxton;
son, Gary Garrison and wife Christine of Oak Ridge; brother, Clifford Branch
and wife Millie of Maynardville; long-time special friend, Paul Walsh of
Kingston; grandchildren, Myra Scott and husband David of Oliver Springs,
Becky Eddy and husband Brent of Concord, Steve Finch and wife Amanda of
Marietta, GA, Darren Stanford of Belleville, IL, Dennis Garrison and wife
Alison of Lenoir City and Sharon Jardine and husband Philip of Knoxville; 12
great grandchildren. Funeral services are Monday, September 23, 2002 at
8:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Michael Prince officiating. Graveside
services are Tuesday at 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be
made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak
Ridge, TN 37830 or to the American Council of Blind, 4313 Clinton Hwy.,
Knoxville, TN 37912. The family will receive friends on Monday from
6:00-8:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary.
GROSS, CYNTHIA ANN - age 58 of 857 Main St., Jacksboro, Tenn., passed away
Saturday Sept. 21, 2002 at her home. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded
in death by her parents, Hugh & Leona Archer Ray; brother, Hugh Steven Ray;
sisters, Shirley Ray, Nancy Owens & Emily S. Bolton. Survivors: husband,
Richard Gross, Jacksboro; son & daughter in law, David & Tammy Kitts,
Caryville; sons, Bryan & Marc Gross, both of Jacksboro; daughter & son in
law, Angela Colleen & Dennis R. Williams, LaFollette; step children, Tami &
Allen Jackson, Nashville, Patti & Rick Call, Glade Springs, Va., & John
Gross, Caryville; grandchildren, Cody Ray Kitts & Emily Lou Ann Gross; step
grandchildren, Regan Allen & Aidan Davis Jason & Victoria Robinson Call &
Isaac Call; brothers, Robert L., Gary Lynn Ray, both of LaFollette & Jerry D.
Ray of Jacksboro; sisters, Kathleen Marlowe, Boulder City, Nev. & Carolyn
Vincent, LaFollette; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives &
friends. Funeral 8 p.m. Sunday Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Lynn Ray
officiating. Interment 10 a.m. Monday. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m.
Sunday before funeral at Martin Wilson Funeral Home LaFollette.
HOOD, JAMES EDWARD (JIM) - age 68 of tub Springs Road in Harriman, Tenn.,
went home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning September 21, 2002. Jim was a
graduate of Harriman High School, served his country in the US Army, retired
from the information reproduction department at ORNL in Oak Ridge. He was a
member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Pearl and Sam Hood; brothers, Howard, Benton, Jerry and
Ronnie; and a special aunt, Eva Ruth Miller. Survived by wife, Barbara Harvey
Hood; one daughter, Jan and Tim Smith of Crossville; one granddaughter, Tori
Smith; sister, Betty Doughty of Spartanburg, SC; step sister, Evelyn Taylor;
step brothers, David, Sherman, and Alan Cox; sisters in law, Dorothy Hood of
McMinnville and Lea Hood of Chattanooga; also survived by a special niece,
Missy Harvey Grigsby. In lieu of flowers make contributions to Mount Pisgah
Baptist Church Printing Ministry. Funeral 8 p.m. Monday at Kyker Funeral Home
Chapel, Harriman, Rev. Garvin Walls and Rev. Keith Price officiating.
Interment 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman.
JOHNSON, BEULAH MAY WILLIAMS - age 95 of Clinton, passed away Saturday,
September 21, 2002 at the Windwood Health Care Center. She was of the Baptist
faith. In earlier years, she worked as a waitress at the Pioneer Cafeteria in
Shelbyville, Tennessee. Preceded in death by husbands, Herman C. Williams &
Hubert Johnson; son, Fred C. Williams; parents, Alexander & Cora Dillingham
Martin; 3 sisters & 5 brothers. Beulah was born September 19, 1907 in
Nashville. Survivors: daughter, Angie M. Bell of Clinton; sons & daughters in
law, Herman A. & Catherine Williams of Farmington, Michigan, Lt. Colonel Joe
A. & Pat Williams of Alameda, California, Horace R. & Nancy Williams of Oak
Ridge, Thomas L. & Ruby Williams of Oliver Springs; 13 grandchildren; 10
great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive
friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2002 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in
Clinton with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Rev.
Steve McDonald officiating. Interment will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at
Anderson Memorial Gardens. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of
all arrangements.
SPENCER, THELMA BENNETT - of Knoxville, born October 7, 1913 in Morgan County
Tennessee to the union of John L. and Minnie Langley Bennett. She was a
longtime resident of Inskip and member of Inskip Baptist Church. She went to
be with the Lord, Thursday September 19, 2000. Preceded in death by husband,
William H. Spencer; brother, Hamilton Bennett; sisters, Marie Hodges & Viola
Bunch. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survived by son & daughter in
law, David B. & Amy Judy; daughter, Patricia Judy; daughters & sons in law,
Barbara & Don Brewer all of Knoxville, Beverly Dawn & Maurice Miller of
Ringgold, Ga.; 3 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; 7 great grandsons; 3 great
granddaughters; 1 great-great grandson. Funeral service 8 p.m. Saturday
Mynatt's Chapel Rev. Bruce Robinson officiating. Family and friends will meet
at the funeral home 2 p.m. Sunday and proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for an
interment service at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great
grandsons. The family wishes to express a special thanks of gratitude to the
staff of Hillcrest West. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at
Mynatt's.
STOKES, THOMAS P. - age 78 of LaFollette, passed away Friday, September 20,
2002 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in LaFollette. The family will receive
friends 6-8 p.m. Monday September 23, 2002 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in
Lake City with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Interment
will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Queener Cemetery in Cherry Bottom.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of arrangements.
