JAMES WARREN CUNNINGHAM, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, of injuries sustained in a fall from a
ladder.
He was born May 31, 1916, in Denton, Mont., the son of John J. and Mary
Isabell Cunningham. In 1925, his family moved to Bowden, Alberta, Canada,
where he was educated and worked on the family farm until 1936.
After high school graduation, Mr. Cunningham moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to
pursue his ambition of playing ball and attended baseball school. At the same
time, he attended the City College of Los Angeles and completed two years
before entering the University of California at Berkeley where he earned a
bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
At the university, Mr. Cunningham was captain of the hockey team and
president of the Newman Club.
In 1943, he moved to Oak Ridge to work on the Manhattan Project. He was
instrumental in starting St. Mary's Catholic Church parish and he was a
founding member of the Catholic Youth organization. He also served as first
grand knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Cunningham had been an active member of the church since coming to Oak
Ridge. In the 1970s, he was instrumental in organizing the Haiti Twinning
Project, St. Mary's sister parish.
Shortly after moving to Oak Ridge, he met Eileen Bassett, whom he married in
1946. They were married 51 years at the time of her death.
Mr. Cunningham was employed with Union Carbide Nuclear Division for 39 years,
retiring in 1982. He was an electrical engineering and a member of the
American Society of Electrical Engineers.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling and gardening.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary K. Cunningham and E. Claire
Cunningham, both of Oak Ridge, Patricia "Poppy" Cunningham of Vergennes, Vt.,
and Maureen Cunningham and her husband, Webb Van Winkle, of Boise, Idaho; and
four sons, James L. Cunningham and his wife, Alison Taylor, Peter G.
Cunningham and his wife, Cindy, of Claxton, and Joseph M. Cunningham and his
wife, Michelle, of Loudon, and Brian F. Cunningham and his wife, Paula, of
Karns.
Mr. Cunningham is also survived by 14 grandchildren: David Crenshaw and his
wife, Jamie, Erin Cunningham, Bill Cunningham and his wife, Lacey, Jennifer
Cunningham, Daniel Cunningham, Russell Cunningham, Emily Cunningham, Jeremy
Walker, Josh Walker, Sean Cunningham, Shayne Cunningham, Ryan Cunningham,
Sara Beckwith and Taylor Cunningham.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by another son,
John William Cunningham, and a granddaughter, Laura Ann Crenshaw.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at St. Mary's
Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the
church.
The body will be cremated. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at
Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Haiti
Twinning Parish or to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.

WILLIE LEE OLIVER, 63, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at his
home with his family and friends by his side.
He was born Dec. 2, 1938 in Opelika, Ala., the son of Janie Mae Golden Oliver
Beasley and Willie Lewis Oliver, who are deceased.
Mr. Oliver joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under
the Rev. C.C. Fuller.
He retired in 1986 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He had worked at the
Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant for 17 years.
Mr. Oliver was a member of Atomic Lodge No. 1301 and served as chairman of
the house committee. His family said he enjoyed people, playing games with
his kids and fishing.
He is survived by five sons, Ricky Caswell of Knoxville, Dennis Howard, Danny
Howard, James Howard and Willie L. Oliver II, all of Oak Ridge; one daughter,
Denise L. Howard of New York; two brothers, James Beasley and his wife,
Debra, of Florida, and James Oliver of Battlecreek, Mich.; two sisters, Viola
Oliver and Ernestine Johnson and her husband, James, of Oak Ridge; and an
adopted sister, Becky Burum of Oliver Springs.
Mr. Oliver is also survived by eight stepchildren, Suzanna Gallihar of Oak
Ridge, Patricia Howard of New York, Janice Howard, Harriet Howard, Rhonda
Johnson and her husband, Larry, Willie Johnson, Odessa Johnson and Reginald
Johnson, all of Oak Ridge.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Shameeka Howard of New York, and Denisha
Freeman, Devin Guinn, Kanesha Johnson, Jordon Caswell, Clise Steward, Tylee
Caswell, Tamar Stewart, Steven Howard, Kascan Davidson, all of Oak Ridge,
Dynasty Oliver of Knoxville and Carisa Johnson of Alabama; five aunts, Burnie
Golden of Knoxville, Sarah Cobb and Elvira Fuller, both of Duluth, Minn., and
Sarah Oliver and Mattie Oliver, both of Opelika; seven nieces, Ella Bridget
Jones of Akron, Ohio, Christine Oliver and Belinda Oliver, both of Battle
Creek, Mich., Dorothy Hunter and her husband, Elder Charles, Catherine Gipson
and her husband, Charles, and Carnell Henderson and her husband, Edward, all
of Oak Ridge, and Elvira Moore of Chattanooga; six nephews, Mitchell Oliver,
James Oliver and his wife, Debra, Christopher Oliver of Chattanooga, Michael
Oliver, Lamar Oliver, both of Battle Creek; and many cousins, including Emma
Sutton and Eddie B. Golden.
Among his friends were Robert Dixon, Gladys Harris, Henry Lee, Mr. Shannon,
Ethel Ruth, Robbie Young, Mary Dixon, Roy Kirk, Roger of Knoxville, Marcella
Johnson of Battle Creek, Willie T. Booker of Oak Ridge, Maregrett Arb of
Alabama and Catherine of Washington.
Ruby Oliver of Oak Ridge is his former wife.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Hunter officiating.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the
American Cancer Society or Covenant Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The Rev. JAMES FRANKLIN JONES Sr., 83, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 19,
2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born May 18, 1919, in Campbell County, the son of Luther and Martha
Phillips Jones. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Jones was a retired carpenter with Rust Engineering. He was also a
retired Baptist minister and a member of Valley View Baptist Church in
Clinton.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vandetta Jones; his daughter, Judy
Towns and her husband, Harvey, of Clinton; three sons, the Rev. James F.
Jones Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Harriman, Robert Jones of Titusville,
Fla., and Gary Jones and his wife, Theresa, of Winter Garden, Fla.; and two
sisters, Ada Gardner of Oak Ridge and Dinah Cook of Clinton.
Mr. Jones is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephen Jones, Rachel Ogle,
Anna Ruth Young, Pamela Phillips, Tricia Lane, Regina Webster and Stephanie
Huddleston; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn
Jones; a sister, Mossie Huskey; and a brother, Sammy Jones.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Allen Giles, the Rev.
John Hunley and the Rev. James Jones Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Valley View
Baptist Church, 1018 Old Dutch Valley Road, Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

ORVILLE "Red" MOORE, 58, of Claxton, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Fort
Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville of cancer.
He was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Jackson, the son of John and Katherine Moore,
who are deceased. He was a United States Navy veteran.
Mr. Moore had worked for approximately 30 years as a machinist for the
Tennessee Valley Authority until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the
International Association of Machinists Local No. 65.
He was an active member and deacon of Riverview Baptist Church in Claxton
where he also served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.
Mr. Moore was also active in World Changers and Habitat for Humanity of
Anderson County. He was a member and past master of Alpha Masonic Lodge in
Clinton, No. 376, and of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 193.
His family said he was an avid golfer and a fan of the University of
Tennessee Volunteers and had worked as a football usher at the games for many
years. One of his greatest joys was reading and spending time with his
grandchildren, and taking his grandchildren on camping trips.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Barnette Moore; his
daughter, Melissa Williford and her husband, Bill, of Claxton; his son, Bryan
Moore of Clinton; two grandchildren, Haley Moore and Caleb Williford; and two
step-grandsons, Billy Williford and Jeff Williford.
He is also survived by his sister, Charlene Barnette and her husband, Tony,
of Jackson; four brothers, Thomas Moore of Fayetteville, N.C., Owen Moore and
his wife, Alice, of Jackson, and Paul Moore and his wife, Ginger, and
Clarence Moore, all of Memphis; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by another
sister, Martha Jeanette Devine; and four brothers, Gerald Moore, Grady Moore,
Roy Moore and Donnie Moore.
The family said they would like to thank the nurses and physicians at
Thompson Cancer Center and Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for their
compassion, love and support during Mr. Moore's battle with cancer.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Riverview Baptist
Church in Claxton with the Rev. Don Hensley officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery with deacons and friends serving as
pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Sept. 20, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

LLOYD EARL SEEBER, 81, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at
his home.
Born Nov. 16, 1920, in Anderson County, he was the son of Rufuss Seeber and
Rosie Braden Seeber.
Mr. Seeber was a retired coal miner and had worked at Windrock, Briceville
and Clinchmoore mines.
He was a member of Friendly Welcome Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
His family said he enjoyed coon hunting, gardening, ginseng hunting and
spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Mr. Seeber is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susie Phillips Seeber; his
son, Roy L. Seeber of the Dutch Valley community; his daughter, Ann Townsend
and her husband, Mike, of Oliver Springs; and his sister, Gertrude Mitchell
of Oliver Springs.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Angie Silvey and Mikeial E.
Townsend, both of Clinton, Marcella Bunch of the Dutch Valley community,
Kisha Mosley, Tessa Seiber and James Warren Fritts, all of Oliver Springs,
and Brian Seeber of Lake City; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Seeber was preceded in death by another son,
Clyde Seeber; four brothers, Hobert Seeber, Fletcher Seeber, John Seeber and
Vestal Seeber; a sister, Maggie Seeber; and by a daughter-in-law, Mildred
Smith Seeber.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Sept. 20, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Saturday, Sept. 21, at Frost
Bottom Cemetery in Anderson County.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

SANDRA TOOLEY WILLIAMS, 62, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was born Aug. 29, 1940 in Huntington, W. Va. She was the daughter of
Ronald K. Tooley of Proctorville, Ohio, and Kathleen Dunfee Tooley, who died
Jan. 25, 2000.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of 27
years, R.G. Williams; her son, Curtis E. White II and his wife, Marcianna, of
Ventura, Calif.; her stepdaughter, Sharon W. Templeton and her husband, Earl,
of Kingston; five grandchildren, Brandon White of Ventura, Mark W. Templeton,
Christopher Templeton, both of Kingston, and Stephanie M. Williams and Stacey
R. Williams, both of Oak Ridge; and by several nieces and nephews.
Lucinda Dunteman and her husband, Kenneth, of Mountain Home, Ark., were
considered life-long friends.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her
stepson, Mark S. Williams of Oak Ridge, who died Feb. 10, 1994.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of donations to the

JOHN EDWARD EVE, 88, of Harriman, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the
Rockwood Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Eve was a former resident of Harriman and was retired from Oak Ridge
National Laboratory where he worked for 35 years. He was a millwright.
He is survived by his wife, Alpha Hembree; his son, Joe Edward Eve of Lenoir
City; his daughter, Barbara Prestayho and her husband, Archie, of Cary, N.C.;
two stepsons, G. Wayne Hembree of Signal Mountain, N.C., and Loren M. Hembree
and his wife, LaDonna, of Farragut; and his stepdaughter, Wanda M. Manning
and her husband, George, of Rockwood.
Mr. Hembree is also survived by his brothers, Clarence Eve and Clifton Eve;
17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothea Heilig Eve; and by his
parents, Joseph and Minnie Eve.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Sept. 20, in the chapel of Evans
Mortuary in Rockwood with the Rev. Louis T. Hill officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at
Graceland Cemetery in New Albany, Ind.

CARL BURUM, 63, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at St.
Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
Born June 4, 1939, in Oliver Springs, he was the son of James Clifton Burum
and Grace Robinson Burum, who are deceased. He had been a lifelong resident
of the Oliver Springs area.
Mr. Burum's family said he was very helpful and a community minded person,
always willing to assist his family, friends and church in any way possible.
He looked forward to the annual homecoming at Little Leaf Baptist Church,
which he joined at an early age.
He is survived by his sister, Wilma Jean Burum of Oak Ridge; his brother,
James Robinson and his wife, Evelyn, of Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Hazel
Robinson of Oliver Springs; and a brother-in-law, Robert Sherrill Knaff of
Oliver Springs.
Mr. Burum is also survived by two aunts, Myrtle Lee Burum of Clinton and
Betty Jo Hawkins (Mrs. Clarence) of Oak Ridge; 12 nieces; 6 nephews; 1
grandnephew; 1 great-grandnephew; and several cousins and other relatives.
Jeff Hall, Jackie Henry and Greg Griffin were considered special friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burum was preceded in death by two brothers,
his twin, Earl Burum, and William "Bill" Robinson; and by a sister, Edna
Knaff.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Little Leaf Baptist
Church in Oliver Springs.
Burial will follow at Carter Bluff Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

RUTH ELIZABETH "Betty" WALLACE, 60, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 19,
