Dr.JOHN JOSEPH PINAJIAN, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at his Oak Ridge
home of 39 years.
Born Oct. 31, 1921 in Clifton, N.J., he was the son of Peter Pinajian and
Ruth Nakashian Pinajian, and grew up in Nutley, N.J. He was a United States
Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He also
served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He received a doctorate in nuclear pharmaceutical chemistry from Purdue
University in 1955.
Dr. Pinajian retired in 1985 after 30 years of service at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, where he specialized in cyclotron isotope development research.
Among his professional accomplishments, he was a professor with the
University of Tennessee-Atomic Energy Commission, in agricultural research;
professor of physics at Vanderbilt University; U.S. Atomic Energy Commission
scientific representative to India under former Ambassador Daniel P.
Moynihan; technical manager, N.V. Philips-Duphar, Holland; and scientific
expert for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Pinajian was an avid collector of books, stamps and toy soldiers, and he
had a great love of reading, gardening and the Atlanta Braves baseball team.
His family described him as a kind and loving husband to his wife, Harriet
Pinajian, and as a cherished father to his son, Cornelius Pinajian of
Atlanta, Ga., who both survive him. Dr. Pinajian and his wife had been
married for 54 years at the time of his death. He will be forever remembered
and loved for his kindness and joy of life, his family said.
In addition to his wife and son and his son's wife, Peggy Pinajian, Dr.
Pinajian is survived by his sisters, Anne Baker of California and Virginia
Clark of New Jersey; and his brother, Paul Pinajian, also of New Jersey.
Dr. Pinajian was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Ruth Pinajian of
Nutley N.J., and by his stepmother, Rose.
Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Episcopal
Church of the Ascension, 800 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, for a 10 a.m.
Eucharist.
A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Veterans
Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Road, Knoxville (adjacent to the church). Members
of the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be in the form of donations
to Covenant Hospice, 700 S. Illinois Ave., Suite A-202, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

CHLOE REED FOUST, 94, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Foust is survived by her daughters, Janet Adkins of Mooresville, N.C.,
and Louise Hartnett and her husband, Maurice, and Helen Morton and her
husband, L.R., all of Aiken, S.C.; her sons, John Foust and Charles Foust and
his wife, Jean, all of Lake City, and James Foust and his wife, Carol, of
Columbia, S.C.; her sister, Gertrude Smith of Lake City; her brother, Jack
Reed and his wife, Nadine, of Lake City; and by 17 grandchildren, 27
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Main Street Baptist
Church in Lake City with the Rev. Wayne Phillips and the Rev. Don Martin
officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Island
Ford Cemetery in Lake City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City is handling the arrangements.
EULA MAE FRITTS, 75, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born May 1, 1927, in Campbell County, she had lived in Oliver Springs most of
her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church in
Briceville.
She was the widow of Alonzo Fritts.
Mrs. Fritts is survived by seven sons, Herbert Fritts and his wife, Shirley,
Ernest Fritts and his wife, June, and Oscar Fritts and his wife, Wanda, all
of Oliver Springs, James Fritts and his wife, Brenda, of Greenback, Jimmy Lee
Fritts and his wife, Ann, and Samuel Ray Fritts and his wife, Rhonda, all of
Stockbridge, Ga., and Chris Fritts and his wife, Lorri, of Snellville, Ga.;
and four daughters, Bessie Fritts of Harlan, Ky., Maxine Czarnecki and her
husband, John, of Cicero, Ill., Faye Choate and her husband, Dan, of Lake
City, and Sandra Carroll and her husband, Bill, of Daltonville, Ga.
She is also survived by her brother, LeRoy Lane and his wife, Dorothy, of
Oliver Springs; her sister, Beulah Clever and her husband, Bob, of Dayton,
Ohio; and by 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fritts was preceded in death by her parents,
David V. Lane and Ida Mae Apperson Lane; four brothers, James Lane, William
Lane, Bruce Lane and Vernell Lane; and a sister, Mable Burton.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The Rev. Gary S. Seiber, the Rev. Bill
Tuttle, the Rev. Archie Seiber and the Rev. Jimmy Ray Seiber will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at the
funeral home.
BEULAH EDITH SHARP, 84, of Andersonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at
Mariner Health of Norris.
Born Jan. 26, 1918, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Claude and
Ersulia Stooksbury Sharp. She was a Methodist.
Ms. Sharp is survived by her sister, Eula Mae Sharp of Andersonville; her
brother, Edward Sharp of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Alcoa; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby
McClellan.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Mount
Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Andersonville. The Rev. Don
Jones Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
ELISE A..JOHNSON, 91, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the home of her sister,
Elizabeth Beeler of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Johnson was a former resident of South Knoxville and was retired from
Hamilton National Bank.
She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Knoxville.
In addition to her sister, Mrs. Johnson is survived by several nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen M. Johnson; her parents,
George Arthur and Osie Mae Altom; and her brother, Noel Altom.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Mount Olive Baptist
Church, Maryville Pike, Knoxville. The Rev. Deron Cobb will officiate.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
Berry Funeral Home in Knoxville is handling the arrangements.
Opal lee calvert, 83, of Oak Ridge, died this morning, Aug. 14, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements, which are incomplete.
