RUTH MCCOY GRIZZLE, 85, of Clinton, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at St.
Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
Born April 13, 1917, in Dickenson County, Va., she was the daughter of Hiram
Emery and Rosa Adkins McCoy. She was a graduate of Radford State Teachers
College in Virginia.
Mrs. Grizzle was retired as a schoolteacher with the Anderson County school
system. In later years, she was the owner and operator of Colonial Motel in
Gatlinburg.
She was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton.
Mrs. Grizzle was the widow of Andrew J. Grizzle.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Grizzle and his wife, Linda, of Seymour,
and Jack Grizzle and his wife, Roswitha, of Colleen, Texas; her
grandchildren, Kim, Christy, Cindy, Kevin, Alicia, Tim and Michele; and four
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Grizzle is also survived by her sister, Joyce Bowman of Beaverton, Ore.;
her brother, Glennis McCoy of Birch Run, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews
and other members of her extended family.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her
daughters, Patricia Rhea and Dudley Grizzle; two other sisters, Janice
Fletcher and Betty Waugh; and two other brothers, Edison McCoy and R.C.
McCoy.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The Rev. Bill Dawson and the Rev.
Dwight Jenkins will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Oak
Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
