EVON BERRY, 82, of Caryville, died on Tuesday, July 2, at UT Medical Center
of Knoxville. She was a member of the Elk Fork Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Berry; parents Alonzo and
Effie Mae Gibson Lay; sister Lila Louise Reed; brothers Verlin, Ottis, Junior
and Billy Lay.
She is survived by sisters Irene Wilson of Pontiac, Mich., Betty Frazier of
Beaufore, S.C., Rosalie Sifford of Orlando, Fla.; brother Clifford Lay of
Yale, Mich.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 5, at the Cox and Son Chapel with
Rev. Joe Morgan officiating. Interment was in the Valley View Cemetery.
Cox and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
JERRY LEWIS CAPPS, 44, of Jellico, died on Saturday, July 6, at Jellico
Community Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason.
He is survived by wife Angela Lisa Capps of Williamburg, Ky.; daughters
Amanda Capps of Williamsburg, Ky., Allison Capps of Williamburg, Ky.,
step-son Nathan Scott Moore of Jellico; one step-grandchild; parents Guy and
Marlene Capps of Williamsburg, Ky.; brothers James Capps of Williamburg, Ky.,
David Capps of Williamsburg, Ky.; grandmother Dora Capps of Williamsburg, Ky.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Horace Partin and Rev. Willie Partin officiating. Interment was in the
Douglas Cemetery.
Harp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
JOHN WILLIAM COBLE, 86, of LaFollette, died on Monday, July 8, at the St.
Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by parents Walter Guy and Carmen Grimes Coble and
two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn S. Coble of LaFollette; son Gary Sr. Coble
of Corryton, Tenn.; three granddaughters, one grandson and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints with President Russell Figueira, Elder Bruce Williams and Elder
Gene Muggridge officiating. Full military honors were held by the Campbell
County Honor Guard. Entombment followed in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in
Knoxville. The family asks in lieu of flowers, please make donations to your
favorite charity.

JANE B. HAMRICK, 58, of Union Township, Ohio, formerly of Elk Valley, died on
Thursday, June 27.
She was preceded in death by mother, Goldie Feldman.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Hamrick; father Harry Feldman;
children Beth Sheppard, Tom Hamrick, Andy Hamrick and Amy Hamrick; seven
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 30, at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home,
Amelia, Ohio.
Cross Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
ROSA LEE HARNESS, 95, of Laurel Grove, died on Wednesday, July 3, at the
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was the oldest living member of
Laurel Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Harness; sons Clay and Clayton
Harness; one grandson; parents Isaac and Martha Brown; sister Nellie Harness;
brother Bill Brown.
She is survived by daughters Betty Davis of Knoxville, Margie Harness of
Rendondo Beach, Calif.; sons Claiborne Harness of Cleveland, Ohio, Clifford
Harness of Laurel Grove Community and Cliff Harness of Lake City; brother
Harce M. Brown Sr. of Bellaire, Ohio; six grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7, at the Laurel Grove Baptist Church
with Rev. David White and Audrey Goins officiating. Interment was in the
Laurel Grove Church Cemetery.

HOPE, MATTHEW WAYNE, age 23 of Kingston, passed away suddenly July 1, 2002
due to an accident while vacationing with his family in Destin, Florida. Born
December 14, 1978, Matthew was raised in Kingston and attended Roane County
High School where he participated in track and basketball. He was employed by
Horne Construction as a skilled mason's apprentice for four years. Cherished
memories of Matthew include the annual hunting trips he took with his father,
listening to Jimmy Buffett while relaxing lakeside with family and friends
and especially the delight he took in playing with his infant son, MacKinley.
Matthew is preceded in death by maternal great grandmother Molly Linder,
maternal grandfather, James R. Linder and paternal grandfather William Hope.
He is survived by his fiancé Amber Harrison, her son Jonathan and their son
MacKinley Wayne of Kingston. Parents Wayne and Brenda Hope; brother Jameson
Hope and his girlfriend Melissa Ridenour of Kingston. Maternal grandparents
Margaret Young and Johnny May, Kingston and paternal grandmother Evelyn Hope
of Jacksboro. Aunts and Uncles include Pricilla Linder of Knoxville; Jamie
and Matthew Eldridge of Knoxville, Tricia and Scott Ferguson of Knoxville,
Billy and Brenda Hope, Mark Hope, Brent and Angela Hope all of Jacksboro.
Cousins include Steele Linder Eldridge, Curtis and Casey Ferguson, Jeff
Fowler, Katie Adkins, Jordan and Whitney Hope and Dexter Young. Pallbearers
will be Jameson Hope, Brian Colandro, Curtis Ferguson, Scott Ferguson, Larry
Gallaher, Marshal Lewis, Tony Parris and Mike Shelley. Family will receive
friends Friday, July 5th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Brown Funeral
Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2002 in Brown
Funeral Home chapel with interment in Calvary-Hazelwood Cemetery Kingston.

MARGARET SHARP MARLOW, 78, of LaFollette, died on Thursday, July 4, at St.
Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Glade
Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis Sharp Jr. and son
Donald Sharp.
She is survived by husband Donald R. Marlow of LaFollette; daughters Joann
Davis, Cathy Owens, both of LaFollette, and Robin Swann of Chattanooga; son
Mickey Sharp of LaFollette and Mike Sharp of Rossville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren; sisters Margie Sharp Chapman of LaFollette,
Jacqueline Moore of Kingston, Hope of Clinton and Jill of Indiana; brothers
Arnold Burris and Edward Burris, both of Indiana.
Funeral services were held Saturday at New Horizon Baptist Church with Rev.
Jim Wilcox and Rev. Harry James officiating. Interment was in the Grantsboro
Cemetery.

JESSIE MAE MELTON, 79, of Duff, died on Monday, July 8, at the Jellico
Community Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by husband Logan H. Melton; parents Tom and Minnie
Rachael Branam Ayers; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by sons Johnny and Carlos Melton, both of Duff, and Ronald
Melton of LaFollette; daughters Eunice Williamson of Duff and Mary Swain of
LaFollette; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral
Home with Rev. Andrew Ayers officiating. Interment was in the Odd Fellows
Cemetery.

KELLEY RENEE THOMPSON, 30, of Caryville, died on Wednesday, July 3, at St.
Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.
She was preceded in death by sister Sandra Kay Thompson; grandparents Dell
and Mable Reed and Walter Thompson.
She is survived by parents Ray and Wilma Reed Thompson of Caryville; brother
Stephen Thompson of Corryton; half-sister Betsy Merriman of Halls;
grandmother Ruby Thompson of LaFollette.
Funeral services were held at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with
the funeral services with Rev. Jeremy Burke, Rev. Paul Hunley and Rev. Rick
Howard officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

VIRGIE LILLIE TRAMMELL, 83, of Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Elk Valley, died
on Saturday, June 22 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla,
Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Trammell.
She is survived by daughters Shirley Harris of Greenwood, Ind., Debbi Tharp
of New Whiteland, Ind.; sons Bill Trammell of St. James Ind., Rosco Trammell
of Poland, Ind.; sister Garnita Pierson; 11 grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, at the Llewellyn Funeral Home
Chapel in Jellico with Rev. Jerome Walden officiating. Interment was in the
Baird Cemetery at Elk Valley.

ANNALEE PAUL, 68, of Lake City, died on Sunday, June 9, at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist
Church.
She was preceded in death by father Ed Wilson; brothers Gail and Boyd Wilson;
sisters Evonne, Frankie, Janice and Kathy Wilson.
She is survived by mother Winnie Mae Wilson of Jacksboro; daughter Shelia
Crabtree of LaFollette; son Maynard Junior Paul of Lake City; one
granddaughter; brothers Ray Wilson of Caryville, James Wilson and Don Wilson,
all of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters Shirley Ballinger of Ohio, Azalee Sneed of
Ohio, and Carolyn Foust of Jacksboro.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, in the chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with Rev. Jehu Parks and Rev. Jerry Foust officiating. Interment
was in the Campbell Memorial Gardens.

PATRICIA "Pat" WILSON, 62, of Ellenton, Fla., formerly of Speedwell, died
Tuesday, June 25. She attended the Christian Retreat and was employed with
the State of Florida as a Toll Manager.
She is survived by husband, Floyd J. Wilson of Ellenton, Fla.; sons David W.
Wilson of Myakka City, Fla., James F. Wilson, Marty P. Wilson, Thomas I.
Wilson, all of St. Betersburg, Fla., and Timothy Wilson of Brandenton, Fla.;
16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, David R. Bozarth, St.
Petersburg, Fla., Earl L. Bozarth of Bradenton, Fla., Terry M. Bozarth of St.
Petersburg, Fla.; sister Betty J. Bourlet of Peoria, Ill., Tamara J. Bozarth
of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Graveside services were Sunday, June 30, at Johnson Cemetery in Speedwell.
