MICHELLE REGAS WORREL of Mill Valley, Calif., died Saturday, June 29, 2002,
in Mill Valley.
She was the wife of Thomas Dean Worrel, a former resident of Oak Ridge.
A longtime resident of Mill Valley, Mrs. Worrel co-founded an employment law
firm and was active in civil rights cases.
She graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, Calif. She received her
bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of California at
Berkeley, and a master of arts in philosophy from the University of Virginia.
Her law degree was from the University of San Francisco, where she was a
member of the law review.
Upon graduation from law school, Mrs. Worrel joined Bechtel Corp., and
specialized in employment law. After the birth of her son, she began her own
law practice, and in early 1995, she established a law partnership with Susan
Schwegman.
Throughout her legal career, Mrs. Worrel represented numerous pro bono
clients in political asylum, civil rights and death penalty cases, her family
said.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Wesley Worrel, 13;
her parents, George F. Regas of Pasadena and Jane Miller Regas of Knoxville;
her brothers, Timothy Regas of Los Angeles, Calif., and Tyler Regas of
Albuquerque, N.M.; her sister, Susan Regas of Pasadena; and her nieces and
nephew, Jennifer Regas-Riewerts, 13, Alexandra Regas-Riewerts, 11, and
Nicholas Regas-Riewerts, 15, all of Pasadena.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Outdoor
Art Club at One West Blithedale in Mill Valley.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Lawyers
Committee for Civil Rights of San Francisco, 301 Mission St., Suite 400, San
Francisco, CA 94105.
Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley is handling the arrangements.
